... getting ready & thinking through my 3 min slot in 2 hours time telling Local Authority Chief Exec & 'partners' (I hate that word) that the Volunteers they could be using may look like old grannies but are so much more than the official 3 day course training them for this particular volunteer role (as Restorative justice facilitators).

What are you avoiding by going on Gransnet?

dustyangel Mine's a V-fit. I purchased it from a friend for just £10. It does all manner of clever things: counts calories spent; time; distance; speed and pulse.

Well, well, well! Just been alerted by a nice PM to what writing a quick post unleashed. It's often the seemingly innocuous posts that seem to trigger the biggest storms.
Just in case anyone wants to know. I got there in time, I'd got organised with my bullet points in my bag - except when I got there I found they weren't (later found on floor at home) so spoke off the cuff & made an impact & was pleased I hadn't lost my knack when it came to it.

Well done Gadaboutgran, glad it went well. You really did start something on here didn't you!

Thanks Shysal. Story of my life. I've often decided to have a change from doing tough things & to do something that doesn't cause a stir & had similar results - even hitting the front page of the local rag!
I've also noticed how asking even simple questions can be a political act - like yesterday on a 6 mth hospital check-up I dared to ask the nurse , very politely, why they always weighed you & took your BP as both seemed pointless for my condition (a sore gum problem not involving surgery or pills). She answered, "Because we always do" so when I said "But why?" I really got the stroppy cold shoulder.

Maybe she didn't know, gadabout, though she ought to. I think the reason is that BP that is outside what is considered the normal range can be an indication that something needs to be investigated – lots of ill-health conditions will result in a low or high BP. Similarly, too much or too little weight, or speedy weight loss/gain, can indicate other problems. It's just a way of checking that you are ticking over correctly.

She probably wasn't programmed to respond in that area.
