horrible bleak, grey, cold June weather

Just come back from the shops and miraculously the sun has appeared and it's slightly windy, perfect drying weather. Just put the washing outside, went upstairs to do a few things no longer than 5 minutes came back down and guess what IT STARTED TO RAIN, THERE'S A SURPRISE! The partially dry washing is now wet again! Definitely going to get that new condenser tumble dryer. Just looked out the window whilst typing this, and hey it's sunny again. In or out with the washing what do I do?????? The tedious cycle of drying washing in England continues!!!!

"So much for global warming!!" It's probably what's causing the current weather though, shifting the patterns around...

Managed to get my washing more or less dry between the rain showers and I can actually see patches of blue sky for the first time in two days. Not as good as seeing some but still better than rain.

My first load of washing dried in no time at all . I dutifully hung the second load out and took the dogs for a walk. Disaster, the heavens opened and we had to shelter, got home to find the washing line had snapped and washing was filthy

Went to a NADFAS lecture about the Black dDeath today (actually very amusing) and the speaker talked about the famines of the 14th century, of a succession of cold wet summers which led to the crops failing.......then she stopped and said "Is this beginning to sound familiar?"

This kind of weather isn't that unusual, it's just we've come to expect blistering summers nd have forgotten that we all had a summer cardi and rain macs for our holidays!

I read a diary written in the 1860s (brilliant stuff including dismissing a farm servant for sex with a pig!) that included complaints of having to light fires during the day in August! Hope we don't have to do that this summer (light fires I mean, not the other...)

Never seen such heavy rain..just as all the kids were arriving at the Download Festival as well. I hope they all had a change of clothes. I love history stuff about the real nitty gritty things about living in the past. Is anyone watching the Friday night programme about how we'd survive living in Elizabethan times?

Me! I used to think I'd like to have lived in a previous century but that was in my ignorant youth!

This day of rain has developed into a beautiful evening. Clear blue skies with low sunlight. Everything looks golden. Lovely.

It's all very well having lovely evenings - still a bit parky though - but where does the sun go during the day?

It is june? Just googled good deals on electric blankets and do they still exist?

2 hours of continual sunshine this afternoon, best day so far this week. Hope it continues into the week-end.
