A lovely day today!
When checking my bank account, I found my Cardiff pension had been payed in.
I had a cup of coffee at the tribunal. The Judge made it for me! I really enjoyed it as I was thirsty.

On the contrary annodomini. Gransnet is a much better place now than it was at the beginning. Now it has a wider range of posters, rather than those who who came straight from Mumsnet. Much improved now I think.

I don't understand the fuss about Facebook, mine is a great place to be and I have never experienced any of the nastiness I've seen on here. The difference must be that I choose my Fb friends and they are a great, funny, supportive bunch! (As are most but not all on here.

Movedalot I enjoy Facebook. Like you, I choose my friends.

You're right there, Moved. I keep to family and a couple of close friends, having seen some disasters happen on Facebook. One of my daughter's friends was carpeted and warned at work because of some of her outrageous posts and photos.

Welsh Cakes are flat - a dough is made with dried fruit and spices and rolled out like pastry and cut out with pastry cutters. Cooked on top of the stove on a thick bake stone if you have one or a thick based frying pan. The ones you buy are never as good as home made - my DiL is fab at doing them - the best bought ones I have had are from. M and S.

Bez Sat 31-Aug-13 14:22:39

I will ask DiL to do some or you all later. brew

Are they the same as griddle scones, Bez?

Sook Sat 31-Aug-13 14:43:08

We used to buy our Welsh Cakes from the Snowdrop Bakery in Haverford West Pembrokeshire many moons ago. I now make my own and cook them on a cast iron griddle. Be warned, one is never enough grin

Bez Sat 31-Aug-13 14:43:59

Not quite but similar When

Bez Sat 31-Aug-13 14:44:35

I agree one is never enough! They are tossed I. Caster sugar after being cooked.

Bez Sat 31-Aug-13 14:46:09

If I had put brain in gear soon enough I would have only needed to do one post grin

Ye Bez, Welsch cakes best consumed straight off the griddle. They are not at all the same after an hour. Swansea market you can buy em freshly done.

JessM Sat 31-Aug-13 15:17:09

In fact if I had a gas driven griddle set up outside today in the Seafood Festival I could be raking it in...

Are you Welsh Bez? My father was (North Wales) his family were Welsh speaking and proud of it (why not?). My MIL is from Pembrokeshire and is extremely proud of the fact that she doesn't speak a word of Welsh confused

No I am not Welsh brought up around where Heathrow is now and then lived in Surrey - but DH no.2 is and I have lived in Wales for 23 years - DD moved to SWales when her DH was promoted and as DS was in Uni there I went too. She has settled very happily. As you probably remember we sold our house there last year and decamped to this smaller French house - which I wish had elastic sidesgrin.
I found Welsh a very hard language to learn - had to go on a long course when I was teaching as all Primary children were required to do some. I never really got to grips with it but do understand some odd words.

Pembrokeshire (and Gower) are divided N/S along language lines. The normans took the best land in the south I think. So S Pembs and S Gower are predominantly English speaking and the northern areas very Welsh. They probably look down on each other, hence pride in not speaking Welsh. There is a bit of similar thing going on here on Anglesey. The Normans built Beaumaris castle and relocated the Welsh speakers in the area to a new borough on a sandy windswept corner, now known as Newborough. Beaumaris to this day is less Welsh speaking than the rest of the island is my impression.
