I thought it would be a good idea to open a thread where those of us who are upset by this news can comfort each other. Better to share thoughts here and leave the IMPORTANT thread for on-going efforts to find her.

I fear it may be sparse Shysal. The problem is that in France the use of the internet and social media are just not developed as they are in the UK. I think one of the family said that people don't respond to emails quickly and that is generally true in my experience. The regional paper and the regional news are the things that count here.
I don't know what the regional paper is like there, but here it covers the round of council meetings, associations and groups, but not much real news. It is frustrating.

French media coverage is growing rapidly. If you visit the Carol Sheridan is Missing Facebook page you will see just how much coverage there is.

Just hoping and hoping......

Mamie Sat 02-Nov-13 10:27:14

Sorry when, but all I can see is the original France 3 Alpes story with the wrong date, plus the sites that link to it. That is the only link I get on google.fr as well. I am sure you are right and there is more, but until I can find it I can't pass it to the local forums. Sorry to be a pain, but I really think the local expats might be able to help.

Sending so much love to Carol's family and friends.

annodomini Sat 02-Nov-13 11:11:17

Please don't pm me this weekend. I will be away - hope to keep in touch by FB but my phone isn't much good with Gransnet. Need to update. Thanks to everyone who has contacted me.

Seems alpes france3 are saying the French media have picked it up. Hope they're not going round in circles.

Mamie Sat 02-Nov-13 11:17:20

I fear that is all there is when. One story, two days ago. I think it unlikely that anyone else has picked it up from there; Google normally picks up what there is on line, as does Twitter. I think that until we hear from the family or someone local what is actually happening, then there is not a lot more we can do at the moment.
Not that I am giving up!

whenim64 Sat 02-Nov-13 11:23:35

I heard the family were being interviewed for French and UK media yesterday, mamie. Hope this she's up soon, but perhaps some more emails and tweets to French media are called for.

Are there a few fluent French speakers who can assist, let us know with a link and we can share/re-tweet.

Lynker Sat 02-Nov-13 11:25:56

Ladies, I have only just seen this thread. I have only ever posted once on Gransnet, about the pros and cons of moving to live nearer my family. Greatnan was one of the people who replied to me, describing where she lived in France etc. I can't believe what has happened. My thoughts are with you all, Greatnan and her family.

Elegran Sat 02-Nov-13 11:33:13

Just seen another media mention to tweet/retweet t.co/xtsdFulYt7

Grannylin Sat 02-Nov-13 11:34:22

I'm sure Mamie has covered most options but I have emailed and sent tweets to le dauphin libere and le messager with no results...will do again.Have been reading messages on the Complete France site and others have done the same with no results sad

Mamie Sat 02-Nov-13 11:35:06

Is Granjura still around, when? I really think that a call from someone local to the local papers or TV might be the best way. I do think we need to know what the family's strategy and what the gendarmes are doing first though. We don't want to get in the way of what is happening already.

She was very active the other day, but no longer on Gransnet. I know some members are in frequent contact with her and she is in contact with the family via Facebook. Perhaps those who speak to her can help?

JessM Sat 02-Nov-13 12:17:47

Folks there are actions that people (particularly the French speaking variety) can take appearing on the IMPORTANT thread. Please remember only to post actions and suggestions on there. (poor whenim64 is trying to do her shopping)

wannabeagran Sat 02-Nov-13 12:22:23

Granjura is very active about it all & in touch with NZ family.

(I am not her, but have heard all this on a French expat forum).

annodomini Sat 02-Nov-13 12:24:18

Yes she's been a godsend with her language and local knowledge.

Just had this back from Dan MacGuill,

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for this.
I'm publishing an article at this very moment. We'll do everything we can to spread awareness among our expat readers in France.

Keep up your efforts,

Best wishes,

Dan

there may be some BBC news coverage on one of the local networks this lunchtime as family member has been interviewed by BBC.
