I thought it would be a good idea to open a thread where those of us who are upset by this news can comfort each other. Better to share thoughts here and leave the IMPORTANT thread for on-going efforts to find her.

Exactly my experience living in rural Var Mamie friends and neighbours not computer minded also doesn't help, but hoping their children are. I was never involved with the ex pat community so have no contacts there. Just racking my brain the same as everyone else.

Great news, glass. He's right on the ball.

bikergran Sat 02-Nov-13 13:41:17

it just seems so odd for some one to disappear like this....I think we feel a bit helpless being so far away and greatnan being in another country, I know that if we were all near by we would all be our searching for her.

glassortwo Sat 02-Nov-13 13:44:15

biker we would have been jumping in our cars to help with the search, but Carol is so far away from the majority of us.

GadaboutGran Sat 02-Nov-13 13:45:43

Please, you don't need to feel helpless - keep looking and liking & sharing & emailing media etc as the more that do the more they'll listen & act.
Please keep looking at the Carol Sheridan Missing FB page - the latest info an hour ago is:

Carol Sheridan Missing

Search levels have been raised to high alert via interpol. Hikers, climbers, cyclists etc... have also been told to be on the look out! The main focus is on finding the car FIND THE CAR - FIND CAROL. KEEP SHARING!

Keep Carol's plight in the French public's awareness by re-tweeting, sharing on Facebook, keeping the threads going. It all helps.

glassortwo Sat 02-Nov-13 15:57:52

Well done gadabout 1st tweet, I added my first pictures of the posters to a tweet the other day, I am learning as I go grin

merlotgran Sat 02-Nov-13 16:01:37

If Carol's last communication via the internet (we now know she was using a different name to greatnan) was on Saturday and she was seen driving off in her car by a neighbour on Sunday, why was there no further communication for 24hrs? We know Carol was a regular internet user and like to keep people informed of her movements so why the unusual silence?

merlotgran Sat 02-Nov-13 16:12:39

Sorry. Just noticed this is being discussed on the IMPORTANT QUESTION thread.

Quite a few threads to keep up with now.

Penstemmon Sat 02-Nov-13 16:51:08

Update from granjura on the other thread.

LizG Sat 02-Nov-13 18:21:19

Just read Granjua's interesting comments on the main thread and find myself getting very angry and frustrated with the French police, how those more closely involved must feel I cannot imagine. They seem to be making far too many assumptions about age, ability and the like. Also had they been a little less bureacratic then the search could have been started ages ago and checks on her bank accounts, etc could have been made.

I know this is not really being helpful. I know too that Things are happening now but it has taken huge efforts by some wonderful people to get the police activated. Sorry I just had to vent my anger at least it was me and not someone in the hub of the matter. i have probably totally got hold of the wrong end of the stick.

Anne58 Sat 02-Nov-13 18:41:51

Every day I hope for news, but so far nothing. Greatnan PM'd me so many times, I just don't know what to do, apart from the emails to various etc.

merlotgran Sat 02-Nov-13 18:42:49

What if greatnan didn't have a concerned family to raise the alarm. What if she didn't have friends and cyber friends to badger the authorities and bring her disappearance to the attention of the media?

The alternative doesn't bear thinking about. angry

ninathenana Sat 02-Nov-13 18:50:05

I don't know Carol except through this site. And have nothing to add to the search except to say I have told DD to add a link to the page on her FB page. I just wanted to say Carol, her friends and family are in my thoughts. Even though I have not been posting here.

LizG Sat 02-Nov-13 18:55:10

Asked GN to remove my unhelpful post, so sorry. flowers

Galen Sat 02-Nov-13 18:57:29

No! It repeats what we are all thinking

kittylester Sat 02-Nov-13 19:01:28

Liz, I know can't be the only person logging on in trepidation now.sad

Marelli Sat 02-Nov-13 19:03:25

phoenix, I think we all feel the same. The majority of us can do no more than share on Facebook the same things over and over again - just hoping that it'll get through to someone and 'click' with them. Also emailing wherever and whoever we can think of. And LizG, you most certainly aren't alone in feeling as you do, either. Sheer frustration......
granjura has been so good, doing what she's done and so have so many others.
There's nothing more we can do, other than hope. And also be realistic.

Mishap Sat 02-Nov-13 19:20:10

I think we all feel the same LizG - as I said before, here on the Welsh border, if there is the merest hint that someone might be lost on the beacons, the local rescue volunteers are out in force immediately.

I can understand the police needing to ask abut the person's state of mind and abilities as they need to establish the level of vulnerability and how responsibly the person might be able to act. I can only hope that they have finally got the picture as to who she is and why everyone is so worried.

Sheer frustration indeed.

It does feel as though they dragged their feet at the start and it should not have been necessary for the family to fight for a search to be started.

Now that the proper steps a being taken we can only hope that they will bear fruit., and keep telling the family that we are all behind them and thinking of them.

LizG Sat 02-Nov-13 19:27:49

Thank you. Fiona's comments made me sit up and think. That poor family.

hummingbird Sat 02-Nov-13 19:38:25

It's awful, isn't it? Like you, Mamie, I felt as if I knew Greatnan too. It must be dreadful for her family, and for her GN friends who know her well. Thinking of you, When and Anno especially.

It's even stranger, because no one in the family understands how important our GN friends are, so it's a bit lonely!

Mishap Sat 02-Nov-13 20:06:34

Main thread indicates that that the car has been sighted in a small lane. Let us hope this is the first chink of light.
