Hi all

The original thread has become too long and unwieldy so we're trying to streamline all the information to make it easier for everyone to keep up with what's going on.

There are two other threads for support and suggestions.

Please can you leave this thread free for those who have firm updates and links? Thanks so much. flowers

I see Interpol are now involved.

It's very useful to see it here Honeyball

Ah, sorry. Elegran beat me to it!

It was so lovely of the few young friends from the Swiss Forum to go- very kind, but as they say, needle in a haystack.

I will be phoning police Adjudant in charge again in a mo. But I need to pull this together first- please help. Carol was last on FaceBook on Sat 26 at 2pm. Does anyone know if she was active on any other site since then? She spoke to her sister in UK on Sunday- does anyone know the exact time, and if she mentioned her computer being finally on the blink?

As a neighbour insists he saw her on Monday, does anyone have the time for that sighting? (will check with police when I call- but would be helpful if anyone knows).

Lots of people have suggested that perhaps Carol didn't go walking, but went down to Thonon or Annmasse, her nearest towns with big shopping centres, to buy a new Tablet (as she had told friends she wanted to do before going to NZ) and perhaps lost control of car and went down one of the steep ravines, with the car now hidden from view (black car in dark fallen leaves, heavy forestation, etc). Please help with those timings if you can. Have PMed grand-daughter Heather, but no reply as yet.

grabagran Mon 04-Nov-13 09:18:05

She last posted on French Entree at 12.12(French time) Saturday 26th October 2013 . However, as she chose to not show her on line status I have had to ask the moderator when she was last on line.

This was her post

*Now it is getting really interesting. I rang Dixons at Heathrow and they quoted me £188 for the Nexus 7, which is about £50 more than other retailers. They also have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 which is £299 with other retailers. The big advantage of buying at Heathrow, as AnOther says, is that I will be able to actually handle the tablet. They have keyboards available too.
I saw something in my local supermarket that gave me yet another idea - a backpack on wheels, which would mean I could take my 15" E-System lap top with me without getting back and shoulder ache!*

Perhaps her computer finally gave up the ghost at the week-end, which is why she was not active - and then went to buy a new one on Monday, and somehow did not return.

granjura Mon 04-Nov-13 09:21:46

Thank you Grabagran, very helpful. So she was definitely looking for a new one- and had looked locally- and perhaps went down again to compare prices, etc, again.

annodomini Mon 04-Nov-13 09:22:48

Would the shops be open? The fact that she was thinking of taking the laptop suggests that it was still working. Do we know if she took her backpack out with her that afternoon or did she leave it at home, which would suggest that she wasn't planning to walk?

Honeyball Mon 04-Nov-13 09:31:38

But her phone would still be working so it doesn't explain her lack of contact with her family. If she phoned her sister Kath on Sunday her phone was clearly working then.
The laptop breaking down would explain her lack of activity on social media sites though.

whenim64 Mon 04-Nov-13 09:31:56

Her laptop kept crashing, but would work when she switched off and logged in again.

She posted exactly the same post on French Entree and her own Facebook page on 26 October at 12.47 our time. Was that before clocks changed?

glassortwo Mon 04-Nov-13 09:35:38

Clocks would have changed 2am Sunday

whenim64 Mon 04-Nov-13 09:36:10

Her mobile was still taking messages, but couldn't tell when it ran out of charge as it registered 'call failed' when I tried to phone her on the Monday evening.

Marelli Mon 04-Nov-13 09:47:10

Did she use her landline when she phoned Kath, perhaps? Sorry if this has already been spoken of.

Honeyball Mon 04-Nov-13 09:54:54

Just seen this.
Does anyone know anymore about it?

http://www.ledauphine.com/haute-savoie/2013/11/04/mieussy-la-voiture-de-carol-sheridan-aurait-ete-retrouvee

If this is true and recent It would appear that her car has been found. Won't get my hopes up until there is done 'official confirmation'.

Mamie Mon 04-Nov-13 09:56:14

Just had an email from Visorando to say that this has been posted. Lovely message and wishes us bon courage...

And another article here

Police are now concentrating their search in this area.

Hope the links work this time.

Psammy Mon 04-Nov-13 10:02:08

Honeyball, it would appear that that story was posted today at 10:30 (French time, I presume) so recent, yes....

True? I hope so!

grrrranny Mon 04-Nov-13 10:02:41

Please let it be true.

glassortwo Mon 04-Nov-13 10:08:13

Can anyone translate please

Galen Mon 04-Nov-13 10:12:19

Please!

JessM Mon 04-Nov-13 10:13:16

well it says that the car has been found but we have had false reports before.

La compagnie de gendarmerie de Bonneville, en charge des recherches, indique ce lundi que le véhicule de la retraitée «a été retrouvé ce matin sur un parking de la commune de Mieussy, au départ d'un sentier de randonnée».

The gendarmes in charge of the search indicated that the vehicle is found this Monday in a car park in Mieussy, at the beginning of a footpath

Because of the weather it is impossible to use a helicopter. Soldiers, firemen and policemen are deployed in the area

grrrranny Mon 04-Nov-13 10:14:18

My French very poor but it seems to say her car was found this morning in a car park which is used by walkers and hikers and that police are now concentrating on searching around that area. Someone will do a better translation soon.

gracesmum Mon 04-Nov-13 10:15:57

Well done Jess I was slow off the mark.It would be something and seems entirely logical.
