Reasons to be optimistic

6 weeks to April when the sun will be too hot to leave the dog in the car to go shopping

The blinds will go up in the conservatory

The earth in the garden will be totally covered with new green growth

We can begin to think to putting away our winter woollies

and I will begin to panic about being behind with the new seasons sowing

Wonderful thoughts whitewave, lots to look forward too and for me another positive thought is the clock's changing. Makes such a difference to my outlooksunshine

I am sooooo looking forward to April. I know a lot of people don't like February, but at least the days are getting longer. Unlike December and the dreaded Christmas.

Some things are well ahead in my garden this year so let's hope we don't get any prolonged frosts to knock them back.

That's great, whitewave, to think positive thoughts about looking forward to spring. It cheered me up,- thanks. smile

smile I can tell how much longer the days are getting as I didn't have to put the chickens to bed until almost 6 o'clock last night and they were clucking crossly 'let us out' when I went down to them at 7.00 am

Again, I have just found 4 bags of spring bulbs in my porch. Panic set in and I have thrown them into my potato tubs and am hoping for the best. Worked last year with late (very late sown) daffs.

Saw daffodils out yesterday while on a drive and a Peacock butterfly.

The seasons are a bit crazy at the moment. So much in bud that shouldn't be yet.Much as I like April, it's unlikely to be hot , my favourite month is June, warm to hot and so much coming into flower.Hanging basket time, and sitting lazily outside on the swing thing. smile

We went for a walk yesterday and saw loads of snowdrops and crocus (Crocii? hmm)

Really made me feel that spring had sprung

We have them growing wild on our front lawn under the oak tree that survived the gales. They are a lovely sight every year.

A whole bank of dafs out on my way to archery yesterday. Lovely

I saw a yellow rose bush in bloom today. I walk past it every time I go to the village. Have I just not noticed it before, or have the buds just opened up?

I know it's only February but all these grey days seem to have gone on forever. So seeing crocus and watching three muddy grandchildren bouncing around like spring lambs at the park made me feel a little more optimistic today.

Rhododendron praecox is out and the cornus mas with its yellow pompoms. Lots of hellebores hiding behind big shrubs.

Raining all day here! However, the daffs are budding and should be out by St David's day.
Crocuses (croci) flowering around the tree, the purple ones as the yellow ones disappeared.
DH has sown some seeds (in the greenhouse), I weeded the pots, and I will get out there soon and do more sowing.

The buds on mine are fat and promising, Galen, though another one is utterly pathetic.

soop Tue 18-Feb-14 13:13:14

Daffodils are "well-up" and waiting for more days like today. It's perfect. Have taken a few photos. Shall see if any are good enough to upload.

Galen Tue 18-Feb-14 13:21:38

Yes my red one has no buds

MarionHalcombe Tue 18-Feb-14 17:27:02

A reason to be cheerful for me (having not had many reasons to be cheerful lately) - yesterday my DGD who is almost 14 (and according to her mum 'getting very stroppy') said to me today whilst we were having a little chat 'nan, you are the nicest person I know'. Shhh don't tell her mum grin
