Where is durhamjen?

Anniebach Wed 11-Apr-18 09:06:16

Hi Nfk, great your back, stand by, there is a thread about my pooches on the way , sorry all

maryeliza54 Wed 11-Apr-18 09:19:10

Good post Eleothan. I don’t think I’ve ever contributed to the Corbyn threads as I find them unbelievably puerile. What I would like on the politics board is more defined threads on a specific topic but now if I think about starting one I’m not sure if it’s already being discussed in one of the long rambling ones I can’t be bothered to read so I just leave it. I do not understand why dj gets criticised unkindly for her links - no one has to follow them.

Anniebach Wed 11-Apr-18 09:21:56

No difference between critcism of vox pox or Mid Wales Mike than critcism of a daily newspaper

lemongrove Wed 11-Apr-18 09:50:04

Nothing to stop posters from starting their own threads...
Puerile ones or not.grin
Hi Nfk welcome back.smile
There are plenty of uncontroversial threads btw especially at the moment, one one politics thread going instead of the usual four or five.
High time GN had some happier threads anyway.

Tegan2 Wed 11-Apr-18 10:01:05

By representative I mean a place where the implications of brexit are brushed under the carpet; people who point out the implications of brexit are hounded off the forum by people who can't even be bothered to read the links they put up etc. There seems to be a general feeling that the people who have left [who, I might add, I had a huge amount of respect for] have just flounced off in a huff. Maybe, just maybe they are genuinely hurt by the comments/accusations they had to endure. I've just woken up to an interview with Gisela Stuart telling us how great everything will be after brexit; yes, the very same Gisela Stuart who did a runner along with Cameron; oh, and the good old BBC didn't point out till the end of the interview that she was no longer an MP....A German lady also interviewed said we have no comprehension yet of the damage brexit will cause sad....

lemongrove Wed 11-Apr-18 10:05:44

Oh for goodness sake Tegan !!
I ( for one) didn’t bother with the Brexit thread as it was just a lot of wallowing in gloom and doom, nobody was hounded off it.
Revive it all again if you feel you want to, the thread has just sunk since they left the site.

loopyloo Wed 11-Apr-18 10:07:59

So we are to take advice from an unnamed German Lady. Yes there will be some disadvantages but there are downsides to staying in the EU.

Anniebach Wed 11-Apr-18 10:13:21

But Tegan, the referendum went in favour of out, I switched off from it then, neither Tory or .labour want a second vote, it is rather like repeating we will get wet if heavy rain is forecast, if labour supported a second vote then yes worth discussing

maryeliza54 Wed 11-Apr-18 10:15:11

I don’t think the one thread on politics is actually on the right forum - maybe it should move to Games?

Tegan2 Wed 11-Apr-18 10:20:22

No; it was based on lies and false promises; ok in an election when the result can be turned over in 5 years [well, shouldn't be ok but seems to be accepted by the electorate these days]. I will never accept the result of the referendum. However, you'll be pleased to know that I will no longer bore people with my fears. Seems to me the people who aren't bothered are [in general] ok financially and their families are not being affected by it. Who cares if food prices are going up [and will continue to do so]. We have a country governed by idiots and the opposition aren't much better and I feel quite sickened by it.

Tegan2 Wed 11-Apr-18 10:22:55

...the German lady is unnamed because it was on the radio, early morning and I didn't catch her name. I did catch Sturats name because I knew her to be the MP [now ex] who stood in front of THAT bus, made empty promises to gullible people and then scarpered. I'd find out the name, lemon, but I doubt if you'd be interested in it anyway, given that her views are different to yours so can't possibly be correct....

Anniebach Wed 11-Apr-18 10:25:55

But Tegan, there is not a thing we can do about it, if Labour came into power now Brexit will still go ahead , I voted remain, wish it could be different but it can't

Jane10 Wed 11-Apr-18 10:26:47

Well I do hope dj is lurking! She would be chuffed that her defection has led to so much comment!

kittylester Wed 11-Apr-18 10:29:08

Here I go agreeing with you again, Annie

Anniebach Wed 11-Apr-18 10:32:19

Kitty ?

kittylester Wed 11-Apr-18 10:35:58

Tegan, not everyone who voted to leave did so on the basis of people standing in front of a bus.

And, where was Jeremy Corbyn when his opinion might have had a bearing? Had he been more prominent the referendum could have had a very different outcome. The gullible people might have taken notice of him instead.

Baggs Wed 11-Apr-18 10:39:35

I haven't read the "hounding" tegan talks about so can't comment on whether it happened, but I seem to remember that Brexiteers have been called (actually and by implication both on GN and off it) thick, stupid, bigoted, racist, uneducated, old, and quite a few other choice things, so any hounding and insulting has not been one-sided, just as ridiculous 'arguments' during the EU Referendum were not only from one side.

People on both sides of the issue have acknowledged all of the above so that isn't one-sided either.

Baggs Wed 11-Apr-18 10:41:26

I reckon the bloody bus was irrelevant for most Leave voters.

gillybob Wed 11-Apr-18 10:43:47

Maybe, just maybe they are genuinely hurt by the comments/accusations they had to endure.

I honestly can’t believe you could think that of at least one of the “missing” posters Tegan . It’s almost laughable . I’m not going to add details but suffice to say I have been the subject of several of her “not so nice” personal attack’s over the years, so won’t miss her for one minute.

Baggs Wed 11-Apr-18 10:46:34

Likewise. Deliberate misinterpretations being the least of it.

Anniebach Wed 11-Apr-18 10:52:53

I do remember it.was said if one voted out one was a racist, that was nasty

maryeliza54 Wed 11-Apr-18 11:01:08

I think this thread is really horrible

Elegran Wed 11-Apr-18 11:05:10

Perhaps if the keenest political lefties hadn't rubbished other posters so often for being pauper-haters, greedy, insincere, unintelligent, or just being useless at the art of debating their point, or hadn't with no justification accused anyone who wasn't quite as left as them of being on the extreme wealthy right, then no-one would have rubbished them either? Tolerance has to work both ways.

nigglynellie Wed 11-Apr-18 11:06:47

annie, I did smile at your liking of J.RM's posh accent. I don't DISLIKE it, but I prefer a Welsh one! (that's actually true!)
On a serious note, I'm far more fearful of the outcome of the Syrian conflict than I am of Brexit, which I am confident (fingers crossed!) will sort itself out. Let's face it, it's got to for all our sakes, but Syria is very very scary! closely followed by the Yemen. Both (and other places too) are heart breaking to watch and powerless, it would appear to help.
Sorry to be gloomy!

Anniebach Wed 11-Apr-18 11:07:26

True Elegran, though being called a Tory spy did amuse me
