Crumbs, opening a new kitchen is a bit of a responsibility. I hope everyone finds it - I'll just leave the door ajar.
Bubbles and cake on the side - enjoy!
Nannytopsy we have seen the swallows very late too, I think they must be this years late chicks who were told to keep up but stayed to play!
Blimey, you lot haven`t half been busy since I last looked in here about 1am! Apologies in advance as I can`t remember all that I``ve read.
Firstly, wonderful to see you back at the helm Soop , where you belong, just don`t do too much to start with. Now, just to show how technologically savvy I am (lol), I didn`t realise until today that a Kindle can be used for things other than reading a book! So I am full of admiration for you on acquiring one. I`ll stick to my laptop, I like to have a keyboard in front of me.
I had a man here today to look at the gas fire, it wouldn`t light, not even with the lighter thingy wotsit. He took the coals off and removed the front, hoovered it all out, and voila, it now lights! He was in the house for 7 minutes...………£25!
Morethan, what a lovely little girl!
Overthehills, so glad the news wasn`t as bad
as you`d feared.
I`m off to have my hair done tomorrow, a rare occurrence, and as usually happens, there`s wind and rain forecast. Why do I have the knack of booking a hair appointment that coincides with bad weather?
I’ll see you there Callgirl - a cut and colour for me. What are you having done? I have decided to go shorter and “transition”. Our receptionist asked if I was going male then? ?
Thank you callgirl the photo was taken minutes after she woke up, I wish I looked so cheerful first thing in the morning. I’ve got lots of ‘thingy wotsit’s’ the trouble is husbands and children don’t know what they are. I’m always shouting just get me that “thingy wotsit”and they look at me with a blank expression. It must be a secret code only grandmothers use when they have a hundred and one things to think about! Don’t forget your umbrella and ask the hairdresser to ply your hair with hairspray. Hope all our poorly grannetters are improving. Have a good day all.
Is it OK to come in this early for a bit of a nap? The lurgy has hit in corner-land. I know there are far worse things folk are dealing with but I’ve been awake what feels like forever, sore throat, ear pain and general achey-ness. Mr C has no idea as he’s been asleep. He may need luck today, please send some his way.
In case I turn into an owl and sleep all day I understand charley has computer issues so may not appear. Be assured she’s fine, just can’t log in.
Take care everyone. Sending get well messages to all poorly people.
I am wondering if the plentiful cakes on offer have been spiked!!! three pages of posts in 24 hours must deserve a kitchen award.
I duly present an engraved silver chatter box.......baseless, so ideally suited to crumb coverage
soop .... so lovely to hear you sounding much more like yourself. Bodes well for the planned trip.
morethan .... gorgeous girl! I am a little envious of those with GD's. I adore my GS's but have to admit that having had daughters, I am rather more skilled at playing dolls, than football.
corner ...do take care of yourself, and rest.
callgirl & nannytopsy ...could you take my hair with you, please! I desperately need a cut, and can't face going.
It has been revealed to me that I am a) entirely out of touch with modern idioms and b) may well have been shocking people, in my innocence.
Please be on my side, kitcheners. Surely I cannot be the only person left who thought that a glory hole was still a space where one accumulated junk stuff ... out of sight, and usually in disarray. In my case it has always been one, overstuffed, kitchen cupboard.
A friend has now informed me that this is not the modern definition.
I am genuinely mortified! I have even used the term at work

Note: do NOT google!

Good morning all, just popping in before I curl up on sofa with a nice cappuccino and an empty house - yippee!!!
Still waiting to here from builders with regards to start date, up I feel calmer about the situation today.
Sorry to hear that more kitcheners are coming done with "lergies" rest and hot toddies should help.
Pleased you are feeling better soop!
ChaosIncorporated I also use a word instead of saying the "F" word, I had heard it on mainstream media as well, only to find out its 21st century meaning, I found out that I can still blush!!!!
Hello the kitchen! I have not stopped sneezing since I woke up this morning - I think what brains I have will soon come down my nose! Allergic rhinitis; advice includes not to looking into the light first thing
! Stay under the bedclothes then? Probably good advice considering how grumpy I am getting already. Perhaps I should join you Corner and you can send Mr C up here!
morethan your GD looks a real sweetie. I’ll bet you are putty in her hands - I’m sure I would be, although, unlike you, chaos, I’m afraid I’m not a very girlie gran. I am a seventy one year old tomboy and have revelled in my grandson as much as I did in my son. Having said that, I did do a pretty good job with my DD until it came to her teenage years and then the fashion and the makeup left me standing in utter confusion! Didn’t seem to matter though! We have a slightly better record these days!
DH has just gone off for a check up with the practice nurse. He is going to try and persuade her to schedule an ear syringe for him. I don’t give much for his chances. His hearing is shocking and frankly I don’t think clearing them out is going to make a whole lot of difference, but what do I know?
I had better shoot off and get on with my ironing. I will try and catch up later!
Good morning everybody.
I have sofa envy GrannyGravy - would love to have an empty house but have to be careful what I wish for I know.
Chaos I also used the phrase glory hole for that cupboard!
I hate going to the hairdresser so could you please take my head with you Callgirl.
Curl up in the corner Corner (oops!), the heating is on and I’ll make you a nice coffee when you wake up.
Hope everyone had a restful night even though the rain has been tipping down. Anyone else experiencing these more than hair raising winds? Our huge window in the sitting room is groaning and you can see the double glazing glass bowing in and out with the gusts. We didn't let our small cat out today and he has been mesmerized by it all and thanfully has now stopped nagging to go out. DH just shrugged and commented that "if the window blows in we will get another, that is why we pay the insurance company". He has a point but it is unnerving to say the least!
Bit stormy here , my greenhouse cover has gone and the tomatoes need harvesting , but it is hard to stand up in the wind . Neighbours patio furniture is dancing , and it is very heavy , or so would rescue it
Good afternoon all, hope all poorly ones feel better soon.
Very sunny here but winds is getting up quite strongly now, so I am hunkering down with a cuppa, local radio on low and my knitting. Hope you all have a good afternoon/evening.
? ok. Here's the deal. I am feeling fine (at the moment ?) so I will play nurse and make you all hot drinks, plump up your pillows and dispense medicines but ...you are not allowed to pass the lurgy on to me. Is that understood ?
As for the chocolate ginger biscuits willow I have confiscated them as they are not good for poorly people nothing to do with them being my favourites
overthehills sometimes another point of view is helpful. Glad you were able to talk things through with your DD.
morethan what a lovely girl. Such a nice smile ?
chaos
I won't Google it. I can imagine
? hello all the well people in the kitchen.
Ok all you poorly ones line up for a nice big spoonful of castor oil. That should get you going
Afternoon everyone - hope your windows stay intact Synonymous - it's blowing a hooley here too and I can hear the cladding creaking under the front window when I go in there so keeping out!
GD hope your sneezing stops soon - it's no fun losing your brains that way!
I've been very upset this morning going through my wardrobe and trying on all the pairs of jeans in there - I'm ashamed to say there are now 15 pairs that are too tight and been resigned to the 'thin' case - I WILL get back into them - one day! I made the mistake of getting rid of all the ones in the 'fat' case a few years ago - they would have fitted now.
I hope everyone who isn't feeling too good is soon feeling better - my son just told me my little grandson in NZ has been sent home from nursery with tonsillitis. If they'd been closer I guess Nana would have got the call.
On a brighter note I've managed to get tickets for a concert I've been waiting to come online - my other son had forgotten about it so they'd sold out but he found another site and got his too but had to pay another £25 each for them! Silly boy
Hello the kitchen. Sorry to hear so many have gone down with the lurgy. Such a sudden breakout, and fairly widespread I think? It’s been windy here in Suffolk the last couple of days, but nothing like some of you.
I’ve been taking photos of various bits of furniture in order to put on our local selling page on fb. I’ve sent out a message to the sons that there are things going begging here if they wish to visit and look, but no response. I suppose they don’t want mum’s leftovers. Does the kitchen need any more wine glasses, as we seem to have a vast collection?
I’m becoming increasingly concerned about panache, I’m just hoping that “no news is good news” as I always say about my lads.
Off for our riding lesson this afternoon, hope the high wind doesn’t unsettle the horses, else I might be joining the walking wounded
As an infrequent visitor here I am just popping in to say hello, and
to everyone who are ill or having difficulties at the moment.
Chaos oooh er I did google
, and like you are thought the meaning was a place where one accumulated junk!
My friend who lives nearby (known each other since we were 18) has just gone after popping in for a coffee and natter, and to bring my birthday card for tomorrow. She treated me to lunch last Friday which we both do now for birthdays. My turn for hers in November
It is very windy here, but no rain, the washing dried in no time. Hope you are ok aggie sounds very scary your greenhouse cover gone.
I am please soop is now back, and I hope the news about panache will be positive and she will be back posting soon.
I am stressed beyond measure. Hours wasted trying to figure out kindle. Am at last into our kichen. Hair standing on end. If this works then I shall go lie down in darkened room. I shall return later to read all the many messages. X
Just a brief note about panache. I do feel really concerned now but it’s possible there is no actual news. A while ago she wrote on the forum that she badly needed a very tricky abdominal operation which, she said, could “go either way”. She had been emailing me, and others too, and had said she was terrified of this surgery. Her consultant wanted her to have it, but she first wanted to sell her lovely home for a retirement property, but was not having a lot of luck with it. I feel sure now that she wanted to see her beloved husband settled before she had the surgery. They have no other close family. Panache wrote a blog on here some months ago: ‘is there life after cancer? You bet there is”. It’s worth reading to see all the selfless things she has achieved for others suffering, like herself, from the illness. I do hope she is comfortable. It would be great to know that she was able to have the surgery and that she is making a steady recovery. In her last email to me, the day she stopped posting on here, she said things were worse that she was letting on, but because she knew my DH has poor health, she didn’t want to say any more. She is such a lovely person and I would love to see her back here again, as I’m sure we all would.
I second that Bellanonna. She used to send me lovely emails too. She was very supportive and intuitive, always seemed to know that I was more unwell than I was letting on.
I do miss her.
Bellanonna Your kind comments regarding Panache echo the thoughts of many of us, especially now that she may well be having further major surgery. We check our emails regularly. Any news from MrPanache will be shared.
Welcome DillyLavender you have a beautiful name.
It appears that a few of our Kitchener Granspals are succumbing to the virus. My best wishes go out to each and every one of you. It is a ghastly thing and all one can do is allow it to pass through the system. I cannot stop coughing. I have more energy than I did when first smitten. Just rest and drink plenty of fluids.
The hassle that we've had with coming to terms with the new Kindle, is beyond a joke. I became so cross with it last night (*MacS*) had tiddled with it and put in a wrong code. That took a couple of hours to undo. bless him, he thought that he was being helpful.
One of our Gransnet pals is in Kintyre. She and her husband have visited some well known tea rooms. Had I been feeling "normal-ish" we would have joined them. As it is, I'm still wearing jimjams and looking like a zombie. It wouldn't be fair to swap germs with them. Isn't it sod's law?
Oooh dear soop I so feel for you, stress unlimited, I dread when my technology goes kaput.
Chaos and NannyJan Horrendous how meanings of words have been twisted and reversed usually to mean something unsavoury. [amgry]
Some winds! I am amazed that there is anything at all left in the garden but some of the flowers seem just as beautiful as ever. (Naturally
) Himself has been out in the garden in the storm to retrieve one of the water butts, which was weighted down internally with bricks and full of water yet was upended, emptied and blown into the bushes. Hope everyone stays safe by staying inside!
I am fairly new on here and wasn't aware of panache back story. I have just read her blog and am in awe of this amazing woman. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her DH.
Evening all !
Crikey I pop out for a pint of milk and come back to find you 6 pages into the new kitchen.
I wont mention everone , we'd be here till next year so Im not ignoring anyone . Just picking out a few things to comment on.
Welcome Willow - nice to meet you !!
You can always share your thoughts Morethan we're a tough old bunch able to soak up a shedload of emotions. And better out that running round your head all night I say.
Hello Nannyali !! Glad you found your way here too !
I love the sound of the bike in the pool Morethan Im going to see if anywhere near has some. I cant ride a proper bike because of the pressure on my poor old knees but in the water I'm a fish...or a seal...or maybe a mermaid :-)
Soop I'm glad you're feeling a little better and now the owner of some new technology!!
Young Stevie had the best birthday EVER (9th) with the arrival of Mike the Bearded Dragon, a cake made in his likeness and the biggest nerf gun Nana and Grampy could find !!
We had a lovely time and now we're playing catch up as we are away for our annual holiday with my brother and sisters and their other halves. It will as always be a booze filled beano where we all revert to our childhood positions in the family !
Our theme this year is famous duos and we are going as Sooty and Sweep so I am in the middle of making the costumes. There will be pictures :-)
But until then there is much tidying to be done, Grampy has the first bit of hard landscaping to do in our new garden and as my sister and her husband will be coming back after our break I need to make sure everything is sparkling...Corner want to help :-) ??
