Pleased you've got your Kindle working soop and also the positive news on Panache although macular is pretty devastating (my MiL had it) - I hope they have caught it in time and able to give her treatment for that as well.
It's still pouring down here and coming in the conservatory roof - towels at the ready again. Tracking husband on the journey home and looks like the weather is affecting the M62 as usual - tea on hold

Soop's super supportive kitchen.
(1001 Posts)Crumbs, opening a new kitchen is a bit of a responsibility. I hope everyone finds it - I'll just leave the door ajar.
Bubbles and cake on the side - enjoy!
I was sorely tempted to have a duvet day but had to get up for a hospital appointment. Half an hour touring the car park must have raised my blood pressure enormously! When I spy a space why does some person manage to get there first? I am almost tempted to apply for a blue badge but tell myself that there are lots of people more in need than I am. I am sure that if there were any delicacies left over by this time of day, they would make my sore knees feel a lot better.
Good to see so many new faces here, especially if they belong to people with bakery skills. And what a relief to know that Panache is back home in the care of her devoted husband; but very sorry to hear about her frailty and her deteriorating eyesight. Please send her best wishes, soop. Glad you are coming to terms with your tablet. I sometimes use mine to watch TV in bed. I was able to watch some of the US open tennis, but missed out on Serena's tantrum.
Goodies news about Panache although macular degeneration is no little problem in itself.
She really doesn’t deserve this added tribulation.
Feeling much more positive, I have booked an appointment with a physio at a private clinic as I really feel unwell popping all the pills I have been prescribed and there is a waiting list at the health centre for physio appointments and an even longer one for the cortisone injection I may need.
Might look into acupuncture too.
Somehow “taking control” has cheered me up!
I hope all poorly Kitchener find relief or resolution of their problems soon.
“Goodish news” I meant.
Thank you Soop for passing on the news about Panache, such a relief to hear SOMETHING. When I said the visit to Glenbarr wouldn`t happen now, I meant under my own steam, I`d be thrilled to join you there, as long as my family orientated transport is willing to take me there.
Overthehills, well done for making the hair appointment, and how brave of you to be tackling a new hairdresser.
GreyD, do take good care of yourself, hopefully you haven`t done any lasting damage. It`s so embarrassing to fall in public and have a gathering around you! When David was in hospital the first time round and was in ICU, I had a fall on hospital grounds, and the crew of a nearby parked ambulance came across, wanting to take me to A&E, just to be on the safe side, but I refused, saying, "sorry, I can`t, I have to go to ICU!"
Maw, take as many duvet days as you feel the need for, I`m sure Hattie will be happy to join you under there!
How long have M&S been selling washing machines? I had a nuisance call earlier, a foreign voice asked "Am I speaking to Mrs (surname pronounced wrongly)? I didn`t say yea or nay, but asked who they were. She said "my name is Ann, and I`m ringing you on behalf of Marks and Spencer." I asked why, and the answer was that it was a follow up call regarding my washing machine. I`m afraid I sharply told her she was talking rubbish and hung up on her.
Glad to hear the news of Panache, but sad about her frailty.
Glad you are feeling better Soop, you had us worried!
Just popped my head around the door to see if there’s news of Panache and yea she’s home! So much nicer to be tucked up in her own bed and be waited on by a Best Beloved. A bit of a B about the macular thingy but I gather if it’s caught soon enough they can slow the deterioration down considerably.
Best wishes and quick recoveries for all who’re suffering bugs and battered anotomical bits at the moment. This old age thing is such a nuisance, recoveries seem to take so much longer than they used to.
I had an endoscopy yesterday to check on a small hiatus hernia which seems to have vanished, and a patch of Barretts disease which has stayed the same. So back in another three years unless the biopsies show any different. Much relieved, but I wonder which bit is going to wear up of miss fire next.
Such a relief to hear better news about panache, though sorry to hear about the macular degeneration- my late SIL had that on top of all her other problems. Makes me feel so grateful for my health.
On which subject, glad you are feeling so much better soop, and glad you are getting to grips with the ‘gizmo’ too. Hope you recover soon too GD.
Purdey returned from the groomers looking beautiful, sadly kitty, he doesn’t do her nails though, so I wouldn’t recommend him for that!
Just had the report back from the electrician who tested the house, also his estimate for remedial works. Gulp! Still, it has to be done. I advertised some furniture for sale on our local fb site, if no response there I may have to venture onto Gumtree - anyone had dealings there?
Still don’t seem to have a head, so apologies in advance for gobbledegook. (I’m sure that is misspelled).
Mr C says he knew you would love the Kindle soop, I’m pleased you are getting to grips with it and even more pleased you sound quite a lot better. Don’t overdo it though, feeling better can be dangerous.
So relieved we’ve had news of panache. The macular degeneration is undoubtedly a blow but she’s home and that means so much. I’m hopeful for her, s neighbour has had some effective treatment and conftinues ues to live an active life.
Goodness greyd, please be careful, us mature people don’t bounce.
Maw please do give acupuncture a try. I secured 6 NHS sessions recently and it’s made a huge difference to the knee and also the fibromyalgia pain. I’m also researching some private acupuncture, worth every penny not to hurt so much.
Sorry, my head isn’t retaining any more of the posts today. I’ve a bit more energy and I think (whisper this) that my throat is less sore. Think I’ll soon be off to bed. Sending healing messages to anyone hurt or poorly. Please be careful out there.
It must be lovely for Panache being in her own bed surrounded by familiar things. I really do believe our homes are our castles.
Sorry for those feeling poorly. Maybe a hot water bottle maybe the order of the day, very comforting. I have my feet on my blue and while stripped one this very moment.
I too am a great believer in acupuncture it has helped me out of many different health problems.
Sleep well folks if you can.
Great news that Panache is home and hopefully the M.D. has been caught early enough - a friend was treated very successfully.
I fell a few years ago opposite a pub (I hadn’t been in) where lots of people were enjoying an al fresco drink in the sun.
But tbh it was almost worth the embarrassment people were so kind - I don’t think I’ll ever forget their concern.
Is a Kindle really not just for reading books, Soop?!
The things you learn in this kitchen!
Night night everybody.
So pleased to hear that Panache is home and do hope that there will be far more that can be done to help her than she realises at the moment.
and every good wish Panache
Greyd hope you have no lasting ill effects from your trauma, you are not a Tigga so please take care!
NanKate I am hoping that 'hotties' will help me sleep tonight, as you say, they are very comforting.
The temperatures are certainly going down swiftly now that we are coming towards the end of September and autumn has come. I am still hoping for a bit more heat before the cold sets in but it is looking more like a forlorn hope now. All is not lost though as our gardener friend has found us some free wood which will help to eke out the expensive lot we bought so we will be warm, what a blessing! So many trees and branches down around us so I expect that will all become firewood ultimately. Hope everyone came through the storm unscathed. We lost the glass in one of our greenhouses, the other one is totally ok. Just got to pick up all the little bits of glass so that is going to be such fun!
Sleep well everyone!
Hip hip hurray soop, we all knew you’d get there in the end with that Kindle! Thanks for passing in news of panache, she’ll be happy to be home. I’m so glad she has MrP to take care of her.
maw sorry you’re having an ouchy time, it’s horrible to be in that sort of pain. Sounds like you’ve made a good plan though. Hope there’s more sleep tonight for you and any others who’ve not had good nights lately.
greyduster you were already feeling lousy, probably why you fell over - not quite firing on all cylinders. I’ve come a cropper a couple of times, wet floors and muddy fields seem to be my hazards of choice. Apart from making me feel stupid, I don’t like the “old lady “ vibe it gives out, cos I’m not one and I’m sure you aren’t either! Long may Mr gd keep up the tlc treatment.
kitty thanks for your understanding of the gas fire situation....more words were had with the old boy some searingly honest ones at that...it really is the only way...then phone calls were made to our very helpful but not actually up to this job gasman and he’s agreed we are better consulting someone who specialises in these things...phew! In the middle of it all water started pouring through the conservatory roof . Now the next thing on the agenda was to have been sorting out repair/replacement of said structure, now it’s a bit more urgent. My old boy has commented on learning from the gas fire episode in our discussion and planning etc. Lordy, Lord...watch this space...I may need more than cake!
Apologies for anyone I’ve missed or ignored, I just can’t keep up these days. Night all, sleep well x
Overthehills, the original Kindle which still exists in various forms, was - and still is - a 'reader'; however, the Kindle Fire is a tablet on which you can also read books. My original Kindle gave up the ghost after four years and I bought a Kindle Paperwhite and subsequently a Kindle Fire as well. The Paperwhite is good for reading outdoors as the screen is non reflective whereas the Fire isn't. I also load my library on to my laptop with the Kindle app.
I seem to have become a geek...Help!
Anno ?. Sorry to hear of your vicar and the sepsis Soop. It seems to be an increasing problem.
Morning all - breakfast this morning will just be toast and marmalade on account of the dreadful weather we've had here. Another one with water pouring in the conservatory roof - towels and bowl in place - it's been leaking for years and no one can seem to find a remedy short of a new roof!
Something went bang at 3.30 am - both me and the feline lady jumped out of bed to take a look but couldn't see anything so I then spent the next 1.5 hours fitfully dreaming of what it might be - it's a flat roof above me and I had visions of the chimney coming through the ceiling or worse on husband's car roof! Nothing to report in daylight other than next door's bin on it's side on the path so hopefully that was all it was (why do they leave their bins on the path - everyone else puts them at the bottom of the drive?!)
Annodomini I bought a Kindle Fire for both of us at Christmas - it's very good and have my books on it but still seem to gravitate back to the iPad - Mr W's iPad is so old it's coal fired but he won't use the Kindle at all.
Hope you all have a good day and stay warm and dry those with bugs and lurgies.
Sorry soop I missed your post about the local vicars sudden death.. What bad news for you all and all the more felt when you’re in a small community which seems to have had its share of sadness recently. ?
Hello the kitchen. It’s going to be a wild day, I think. I also had a rude awakening, Willow, when a gust of wind slammed against our bedroom window about ten past three - I thought it was coming in! I hope you get your leak sorted out. Nothing worse than water coming in.
Gq my “downfall” was a small piece of bread. My foot found it and skidded on the highly polished tiles. Why they use these sort of tiles for floors in public spaces I don’t know. DH wanted them in our bathroom, but I wouldn’t have them. They are an accident waiting to happen. It could have been much worse. My knee is okay, but my foot is painful today. All these things will pass. Hope you get your gas fire difficulties sorted out soon! We have an ongoing problem with ours but no one can seem to find a solution to it!
Soop I hope your Kindle Fire serves you well, and well done for getting it up and running! I’m a bit of a Luddite and find technology very frustrating. When devices go wrong I have an irresistible urge to put them on the floor and jump up and down on them. I am relieved to hear that Panache is at least back at home, even though it sounds as if she has a long way to go. I continue to send her healing thoughts. I am sorry to hear about your vicar, Soop - it will be a great blow to your community.
We are having lunch with a good friend today. We don’t see each other very often so there will be a lot to catch up on. I only hope we can get there - a lot of roads here were badly flooded yesterday and more rain is expected. I know we need it, but it would be really helpful if we didn’t get it all at once!!
I will look in later.
Ahem ....who sneezed whilst they were posting?!?!
I have started to sneeze, and cough, and I haven't beeeeen anywhere, so am laying blame firmly with ^you lot^
Some people are officially wonderful neighbours. I have been caring for the chickens next door, for two weeks, whilst their owners were holidaying.
Yesterday I returned home from a day of granny'ing, to find my front lawn had been mown, all the edges trimmed, and the hedges trimmed for winter. Such a super "thank you" as, for a few reasons, I have struggled to stay on top of it this year.
Some people are so kind.
Such good news to hear that Panache is well enough to leave hospital. We do all feel so much better in our own bed with our own things around us. The macular issue seems like a blow too far! hopefully, as others have said, early treatment can slow things. If you are able to visit the kitchen P but not yet feeling strong enough to post, just bask in the strength of feeling which poured out to you from so many people. You are much loved!
soop .... you are sounding stronger by the day, and seem to have aced the infernal machine! what a blow it is to lose a well regarded minister. Sepsis seems to be a demon of our times.
greyd .... is the ankle feeling better today? Falling does shake the system up, and it can take a day or two to recover, I thonk, even when therecis no obvious injury.
For my last birthday, we went out to a rather nice "foodie" pub restaurant. Super time, super meal. It came time to leave, and youngest GS threw his arms around me and planted a mass of kisses, smearing my glasses with ...well...the smears of a three year old.
Which is my excuse for then completely failing to see the stone step down from the restaurant area, and measuring my length on the pub floor.
As SIL said : nice one, Granny!
I wouldn't mind, but I had only had one glass of wine!!
gq ...you have all of my sympathies. My entire married life was spent with a man of similar headset. Delighted to hear you are standing your ground. Hopefully there wont be too much more rain before the roof can be repaired.
NikD ... you must be delighted that tests were clear. Time for a small celebration! In my dreams I shall offer a stunningly decorated to the kitchen, and you shall have the first slice. In reality (?!).... I have left some rather flat looking cheese scones on the counter
Nonna .... good groomers are so hard to find, and such treasures. My wonderful lady retired, and the new one upset one of mine so badly that she will not now allow anyone to touch her feet, and nails have to be done by the vet. Grrr.
I am not going to check back pages, as that is how I lose posts, so please accept a welcome if you are new, and a 'get well soon' wish if you are under the weather.
The weather is awful lots of rain last night and still raining now . I am supposed to be working from home today but haven’t done much yet . Went to the solicitors first thing been home a while but don’t seem to get motivated to start work!! Hope everyone is having a good day so far ....I’ll check in later to check what’s happening with everyone and I’ll tell you if I’m still on the sofa with the dogs ! What an exciting life I lead .
Hi everybody to all in Soops kitchen and in Gransnet who have been thinking of and sending lovely messages to Panache.
It is much appreciated by both of us.
At last I am finding some time to write as you can imagine time is very limited at the moment.Panache remains very poorly but is in good spirits, however the M D has been a bitter blow.
Very grateful to Soop and you all.
Kind regards
Mr P.
How lovely to hear from you mr P Please give her our love and warmest wishes for improved health as soon as possible.
Love and warm wishes to both of you from me too.
Thanking you for posting an update.
Mr P please tell her that every time I see her name on here it reminds me of places we both love. I need her to get well, or I will have no-one to bang on to about Pembrokeshire! ?? to you both.
Good to hear from you MrP. Sending best wishes to you both.
