See Jamie Oliver is renewing his.

Is it me or is this a complete farce. I've been married 44 years why would I need to renew my vows. Neither of us has strayed (as far as I know) so the original ones are still in place.

An excuse for a party perhaps.

Ours haven't expired (46 years) so don't need to be renewed.
What's wrong with a nice anniversary party? I'm already planning for four years time but it won't involve renewing of vows.

If the original vows were 'Till death us do part' that seems pretty final to me and renewing is not necessary. The pledges were made on your wedding day. For as long as you both shall live?
I will.
Case closed.

I agree rubysong and mrsmopp

However, I tend to ignore the obey as stated above.
