What information is there about these two dead children? I've only read the briefest of reports that say they died of malnutrition.

The point I was trying to make POGS was that IS recruit young people because they are impressionable. I expect there are more attempts to recruit young people , than older people.

One thing that slightly worries me, is that she said her children died of malnutrition, but she herself looks very well nourished
DH made that point as well and certainly she does. This baby has apparently gone to full-term as well.

The fact is, she's still a British citizen.
My own feeling is that she should be brought back under strictly controlled conditions, with her baby who no one would say is at fault here. She should be in custody and subject to investigation and attempts made to re-habilitate her if this looks like a possibility. I agree that what she has said is abhorrent but we cannot be sure of the danger she is in even now and how she has been affected by what she has experienced at a formative and vulnerable age. She was groomed, set off with friends as silly, impressionable young girls and goodness knows what happened to them in the intervening years. Some of what she's said sounds both confused and the result of serious conditioning. Her statement about severed heads in bins made me shudder as it did everyone else, but I think she's probably de-sensitised as Grammaretto suggests. No one is beyond redemption but I'm not naive enough to believe she should simply be reunited with her family without a long period of time in custody and facing trial if appropriate.

Horror affects all of us in ways we cannot imagine. The abused become apologists for their abusers. But by bringing her back, albeit under strict security, we could also learn more about how this tragedy came about and maybe - just maybe - how it could be prevented in future.

As I understand it many returners are already here. Where are they and how did they get back to the UK? How are they being treated? Why is she the focus of so much attention when a few hundred others are back?

She cannot stay in the camp indefinitely and she has to be very careful what she says to the press. Yes, she has appeared shockingly dismissive of what she has witnessed but she and her baby are in danger if she says the wrong thing or says too much.

Recovering from the birth and getting some agreement as to where the two of them can go next must be exhausting. She said she's aware she's going to face a grilling if/when she comes to the UK. She also knows her baby may be taken from her.

I fear there is no happy ending to this. It will be very difficult for her family and friends too. If she was mine, although I could never, ever sanction what she did, I would want her in a safe place here in custody, undertaking a programme of rehabilitation and for her little one grow up in a safe environment.

This girl is almost certain to be brought back to the U.K., she is a British citizen and cannot be made stateless, and no doubt some newspaper will make a lot of money out of her story.
The real dilemma is that she has been “desensitized” to death, in her own words “ not fazed by heads in the bin” just like a slaughterhouse worker gets desensitized. When she does return she will need to be closely supervised for a long time, she is a potential terrorist as are the others returning.

By the way , any news on the link about hundreds of ex IS being " given" council houses please?

In 2017 a Jihadi who'd served 10 years ( after the 21/7 bombing ) was given a top job with Southwark council .
There seems to be something about Labour councils and their willingness to help these people !!

EV the facts about Southwark Council is that the woman lied on her application form about not having a criminal past and the council failed to check that information. It’s not acceptable at all to not carry out due diligence in checking applicants criminal past and I’d never defend that but they didn’t knowingly give her the job. That is a bit different. Of course she was sacked when it came to light

She was sacked when they found out - my guess would be that any one whose served time for terrorist related crimes would struggle to be employed in a decent job after release ( as do other released prisoners who’ve committed serious crimes)

I imagine she was sacked for lying on her application form - you can actually be charged with obtaining pecuniary advantage fraudulently or something like that if you get a job by lying on your application form.

Conegirl, there's no such thing as the " public pleasing " any council ! Councils couldn't give a hang about those who pay their inflated wages.
The reason for her sacking would have been to save their own skins, and not over public opinion.
