The other day we were thinking about what makes a person charismatic. We could think of several men - some of whom I don’t like although I can still accept that they have charisma . But when it came to women I was stuck.
Who do you think is charismatic ? Can you think of a woman who fits this description ?

Oh yes.
The people I chose yesterday I wouldn't choose today.

Callistemon Thu 13-Feb-20 10:22:56

I'm struggling here

MissAdventure Thu 13-Feb-20 10:25:27

I wonder if there are two or three women we could all more or less agree on?

Oopsminty Thu 13-Feb-20 10:26:21

I can't think of any charismatic women

I'm sure there are some

Actually I do know one but she's not famous so pointless mentioning her

MissAdventure Thu 13-Feb-20 10:28:21

Mata Hari?

Buffybee Thu 13-Feb-20 10:29:40

Before I met Edwina Currie, I always thought of her as the 'egg' MP or the one who had a bit of a thing with John Major but she had charisma in spades.
She was actually breathtaking.

Interesting Buffybee
I would have thought she would be forceful and overpowering rather than charismatic.

Perhaps we can't tell unless we meet someone.

Gina Miller.

MissAdventure Thu 13-Feb-20 10:35:47

That's exactly what was said about Diana.

Marian Keyes. She was interviewed by Lorraine this morning. She has a lovely Irish accent and such twinkly eyes. I could listen to her all day.

Nannynicedrop Thu 13-Feb-20 10:37:51

Joanna Lumley. That voice!

Callistemon Thu 13-Feb-20 10:39:16

Marian Keyes - I saw her last night on TV and just kept wondering how much surgery she may have had on her face hmm

Callistemon Thu 13-Feb-20 10:40:42

It's obviously all down to personal opinion!

Bikerhiker Thu 13-Feb-20 10:41:05

Carol Klein
Jo Brand
Kate Middleton
Mary Beard

I agree with you Bradford Lass

never been one to be influenced to "like" or to be drawn to a person by way of charisma....

I tend to be wary of people I would call "charming"

MissAdventure Thu 13-Feb-20 10:45:58

The very few people I've met in real life who are charismatic have had quite disordered lives.

I wonder if there is any link, or just coincidence?

Molly10 Thu 13-Feb-20 10:46:05

Yes, I'm of the opinion you have to meet someone in person to be really charmed and see that Charisma shine. There are many possibilities already mentioned though.

jaylucy Thu 13-Feb-20 10:47:21

I always thought that Bill Clinton had that "something"
Several people reckoned they thought that my ex had charisma - obviously something not always felt by everyone !!!
Don't forget Nelson Mandela!

Marianne Faithful, for me. I'm not saying she is particularly admirable or anything but there's something about her. I've wouldn't have Princess Diana down as charismatic. I always thought she was a rather silly sort.

I can't think of a woman, but my late son was the most charismatic person I have ever known. He had multiple addictions and was bipolar, and sadly he took his own life seven years ago. He was stunningly handsome and even though he was gay, women simply melted at his feet. I tell this as a cautionary tale - charisma is very often the reverse side of a damaged personality. My dad had bucketfuls of charisma but he was a highly-functioning alcoholic who blighted my childhood. You have been warned!!

MissAdventure Thu 13-Feb-20 10:55:43

My ex was very charismatic, and he too had multiple addictions, mood swings, and was an alcoholic.

Menopauselbitch Thu 13-Feb-20 10:56:53

Honour Blackman
Joanna lumley
Marilyn Monroe
Joan Collins
George Cloony
But Carey Grant surpasses them all
I also think Camilla

kittylester Thu 13-Feb-20 10:58:28

Have I mentioned Rufus Sewell?

Buffybee Thu 13-Feb-20 10:58:35

Yes! I would have thought so too Callistemon but she was warm and utterly charming.
Strange, as I would have never thought of her as a particularly likeable person.

MissAdventure Thu 13-Feb-20 10:59:42

How about the '27 club' members, who all died at that age?
Amy winehouse, Kurt Cobain, and lots of others. James Dean, I think?
