Headlines today, Prince Harry, flying in from Canada to host a conference on sustainable travel and ways for ordinary travellers to offset the damage that travel does. errrr

This is just the tip of the iceberg though. How often does some celeb preach that the lower orders should change their behaviour while the celeb continues to do the very thing that is causing the damage.

I wonder who will pay for their security now?

All of it?

maddyone Thu 27-Feb-20 19:45:47

They’ll be fine behind GrannyGravy’s sofa Merlot, and we only charge wine and cakes.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-Feb-20 19:47:11

Ok folks The Behind the Sofa is fully stocked with the following- cushions, throws, Easter biscuits, wine (all colours), a tea urn and a bottomless pot of coffee, various cakes and a supply of yummy sandwiches- all fliers welcome

Callistemon Thu 27-Feb-20 19:57:08

Are there any Mounties behind the sofa too?
(Forget the bara brith)

Jane10 Thu 27-Feb-20 19:58:08

Any chance of a fruit cake at all? Or KitKats? My only weaknesses wink.
I'll try to squash in behind the sofa with you others if it OK. We're due to fly to Canada in the summer then an Alaska cruise but don't tell Greta. She'll not understand that I've been saving for 15 years for it.

SueDonim Thu 27-Feb-20 20:05:31

We’ve got Justin Trudeau, Callistemon. Will he do?

Callistemon Thu 27-Feb-20 20:09:14

No, although he's charming and goodlooking

However, I want a Mountie in full dress uniform please (male)

maddyone Thu 27-Feb-20 20:09:33

We went on the Alaska cruise to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Jane, you’ll love it. We do have holidays and see places that we’ve waited all our lives for, whilst our children were young we went camping or caravaning. We did go to Europe to do that. Now we’re older and still healthy we want to see new places.
Actually it’s very nice here behind GrannyGravy’s sofa, we’re having quite a party here.

maddyone Thu 27-Feb-20 20:12:50

Well if H+M join us, they’ll bring a Mountie or two. But they won’t be staying long so you’d better get here quickly. Of course H+M could choose to pay for their own security and bring some nice handsome security guards with them.

Saggi Thu 27-Feb-20 20:34:20

Who cares about either of Them...only their family.

merlotgran Thu 27-Feb-20 20:37:17

I'm staying the comfy side of that sofa if you don't mind. I don't fancy squashing up on a yoga mat.

SueDonim Thu 27-Feb-20 20:37:53

Did you want your Mountie on a horse, Callistemon? It’s getting a bit of a squeeze behind GrannyGravy’s sofa. Might need to move it further away from the wall.

Callistemon Thu 27-Feb-20 20:50:14

He can leave the horse outside, munching the daisies.

SueDonim Thu 27-Feb-20 20:59:20

The dung will be good for Grannygravy’s roses. grin

annsixty Thu 27-Feb-20 21:56:07

Well I am going to do some virtue signalling as my carbon footprint is very low indeed.
I have only flown once ( well there and back) very short haul, in the last 10 years, I don’t have a car and seldom use any transport although I did when I was fit.
However I don’t seem so noble when I admit I am terrified of flying and that is what stopped me.
If I had enjoyed it as some do ,or not minded it, I would have been here ,there and everywhere.
I also hated driving and gave it up as a courtesy to other road users as I considered myself a poor driver.
I really wish I had persisted and carried on as I am virtually housebound now.

GreenGran78 Thu 27-Feb-20 22:26:24

annsixty is it too late to book some driving lessons to literally get you back up to speed? It must be awful not to be able to get out and about.
I am still driving, at 80, though I restrict myself to fairly local areas now. I am still very able, but feel that coping with complicated and unfamiliar junctions isn't sensible, at my age. i would hate to 'do a Prince Philip!'
My daughter was also terrified of flying. She went on a special course at Manchester Airport to help her get over it. She was still nervous for a while, afterwards, but happily flies anywhere now.

pinkquartz Thu 27-Feb-20 22:31:38

Greengran

M&H will be left alone when they start paying their own expenses, like other people do.

Doesn't their expectations of being looked after and paid for bother you at all? Security is at least £1million a year.

Growing0ldDisgracefully Thu 27-Feb-20 22:38:42

Please can I join the behind-the-Sofa party? Tomorrow we have Greta here in Bristol, which means DH has had to cancel plans he had because no-one will be able to get near the centre due to the hordes of schoolchildren who are apparently being bussed in, in no doubt diesel coaches. We have a hypocrit for a mayor, who bangs on about banning the use of private diesel cars in the city, yet whose city council is renewing their fleet of vehicles with a large proportion of diesel vehicles. He is also proposing to put a ring road through our heavily residential area, going past the doorsteps literally of 2 primary schools. He is hell-bent on destroying every green space we have, including Green belt, yet I bet he'll jump on Greta's bandwagon tomorrow- he never misses out on a photo opportunity ??? If he could, I've no doubt he'd be shaking call-me-Harry's hand. Rant over.

SirChenjin Thu 27-Feb-20 22:41:25

It was announced earlier that Canada is to stop paying for H&M’s security. Where does that leave them, I wonder?

Callistemon Thu 27-Feb-20 22:45:12

They will have to put their hands in their own pockets, or in Charles's.
Of course, he will pay because it is his son's and grandson's safety.

Callistemon Thu 27-Feb-20 22:47:57

Rant away,GrowingOld

It will be held not far at all from the two hospitals. I do hope staff can get to work, that patients and their carers are not disrupted.

maddyone Thu 27-Feb-20 23:00:51

SirChenin, that’s why I suggested H+M join us behind the sofa, I think they’ll be absolutely secure with a gaggle of grannies, but Callistemon wants them to bring a couple of Mounties with them.

Seriously, I expect Prince Charles will cough up. It’s not exactly being independent though is it? Which was supposedly the aim.

merlotgran Thu 27-Feb-20 23:10:02

I feel a bit sorry for Prince Charles. He'll have to cough up if necessary to protect his family but I bet the taxpayer will end up paying the bill.

PC is probably spitting fury at what M&H have done. They are not getting it all handed to them on a plate as they obviously expected but he can't just cast them adrift.

Maybe they expected Canadian taxpayers to roll over and pick up the security tab. Well, tough titties!

Callistemon Thu 27-Feb-20 23:13:11

The Mounties are for us, maddyone!
Don't invite H&M, although I don't mind having Archie for a nice cuddle, until his nappy (diaper?) needs changing.

maddyone Thu 27-Feb-20 23:20:48

I don’t think they care who pays so long as it’s not them. Prince Harry has really gone down in my estimation. He has been cosseted and pampered all his life, except when he was in the army. I suppose his family felt so sorry for the little boy after his mother died, and perhaps a little guilty. But the end result is a person who has no idea of real life, who thinks he has a right to have everything handed to him on a plate. The rules are for you and me, not for him. Unfortunately he has married a woman who appears to want to milk the royal family, and the word Royal, for all it’s worth.
