It would be good to hear what makes you laugh out loud a really belly laugh.
I used to belly laugh out loud while reading the Herriot series myDh laughs out loud at certain tv programmes which I don’t find funny at all. Compo etc

Withnail and I. "We've come on holiday by mistake." "I have a heart condition. If you hit me, it's murder." "Here hare here." Of course, you have to have seen the film to understand.

Ditto Some Like It Hot or The Big Lebowski.

Dear John

As Time Goes By
1066 and All That

nineatheana QI for me too but also Get Some In. I am exRAF and did the medic training. It is obviously meant to be RAF Freckleton in Lancashire.

Bill Bryson books.

We have been evicted from 'quiet areas' on ships and in hotels as we read one another excerpts from his books.

I guarantee Bryson will cheer you up

Wood and Walters in the health spa talking about clenching your buttocks Then looking at another woman and saying “it’d take 2 strong lads and a wheelbarrow to get hers clenched” Victoria woods monologues generally

A lone cyclist who nearly fell off his bicycle when he caught sight of me.

Background story: (Don't read if it will offend you).

I've just moved to a house in France. With the coronavirus France is in lockdown. So hubby and I decided to keep ourselves busy with a bit of DIY around the house and garden. I've got a long sleeved boiler suit for dirty work, good idea.

The sun was out yesterday and today and I started to get hot. So I stripped to the waist, letting those puppies air and keeping me cool.

The lane through the hamlet is fairly quiet with a the occasional vehicle or walker passing by. Needless to say... I caught a few people off-guard as they passed by, including the cyclist. ?

I can't care too hoots! Freedom! (I was careful though to not get those puppies caught when lifting logs, etc.)

And so... how was your day?hmm grin

Oh yes..Upstart Crow...we've watched them all, but still turn to them for cheering up.
That, and Would I Lie to You , are rare tastes that we share with children and grandchildren.

Antrobus books by Lawrence Durrell. Other books too, but that springs to mind.

On TV, Would I Lie to You.

Curlywhirly Sun 22-Mar-20 20:01:04

Bill Bryson books, especially The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid, the bit where Bill watches his neighbour dive into the local lake; I was screaming laughing, tears rolling down my face ???Also love The Windsors, and some of the old Billy Connolly shows, especially the one with the incontinence pants and also the last bus home when a drunks get on, hilarious.

My girls - mainly when they decide to perform a play or a musical interlude. They can’t perform for laughing so I started, then one of them er - trumpets ? laughing so hard which makes it all the more funny!
Then there’s my nice but dim cat. Daily catastrophe from him!

Like shysal I don’t find much else funny at all.

Sophrosyne Sun 22-Mar-20 20:53:34

The last time I laughed out loud was reading the "Time for another great Gransnet Story" post - ladies and gentlemen take a bow. I keep going back to re-read and get the giggles every time and I see it is still being added to.

Prior to that epic read - yes, agree Eric and Ernie - especially the breakfast sketch which I understand they did in one take but cannot find confirmation that this was so and Miranda who has said she was inspired by Eric and Ernie.

My partner in crime and I always used to start off stifling giggles and then collapse into full on guffawing when reading those fridge magnets with funny sayings (are they still available ?) and comedy birthday cards.

Gwenisgreat1 Sun 22-Mar-20 21:16:47

The Vicar of Dibley, especially where all her parishioners invite her for Sunday Dinner!! Also Mrs Browns Boys

Lancslass1 Sun 22-Mar-20 22:17:57

Do you notice how many of this Country’s best comedians come from Lancashire ?
Peter Kay,Eric Morecambe,Victoria Wood , Lee Mac ,Ken Dodd ,Jimmy Tarbuck, Ted Ray ...... I could go on.

Am I the only person who cannot stand Mrs Brown’s boys?

Jane10 Sun 22-Mar-20 22:19:27

No. I can't bear that programme. End of the pier 70s humour.

Llamedos13 Sun 22-Mar-20 22:44:02

Madmaggie, you forgot to include the episode where the priests “Kick Bishop Brennan up the arse”

now that was priceless?
