Have you reached for the lube, ladies!

This is such an annoying cringe making advert. Firstly, I am sure we ladies don’t need reminding about lubrication. Secondly, they say we only need lube if we are at the dry point of our cycle. What about us older ladies then that don’t have cycles, do we not need lube. Oh I forgot once you are a certain age we don’t have sex. And then don’t get me started on the ‘sex expert’ sitting on the sofa explaining how ‘prickly’ we can feel once we are dried up and crusted over. ?

Blimey! When I saw the thread title I thought we were all supposed to be reaching for a tea tray with which to hurtle down a slope of frozen ice at terrifying speed. shock

merlotgran Sun 29-Mar-20 22:12:11

Don't mind me. I pay no attention to adverts.

SirChenjin Sun 29-Mar-20 22:19:41

Crikey - I must have missed this advert! What channel is it in confused
The one that’s making my toes curl at the moment is the one for Tena Lady with the women in their bras and pants rolling around on their beds and stroking themselves. Just why?? And don’t even get me started on their normalising of incontinence ?

Merlot gran. Is that not a luge?!

agnurse Sun 29-Mar-20 22:20:30

In all seriousness: for older ladies, lube can be very important. If you're finding that lube is not enough and/or you're having a lot of urinary tract infections, your best bet is to see your provider. Many postmenopausal women have atrophic vaginitis, a condition caused by a lack of estrogen to the tissues. The vaginal tissue becomes thinner and drier, and it can increase the risk for urinary infections and pain during intercourse. Your provider can determine whether you might be a candidate for vaginal estrogen therapy. This is a cream that's applied internally and provides estrogen locally to the tissues. It's not really absorbed systemically, so it can often be used even in women who can't or don't wish to take oral estrogen.

Your provider can help to determine whether additional lubricants are needed and whether vaginal estrogen is a good choice for you.

Merlot gran. Is that not a luge?!

Thank you.

Getting worried there. grin

BradfordLass73 Sun 29-Mar-20 22:28:09

I'm 73 and I still, quite definitely, have "a cycle".

Not all the pre-menstrual symptoms of course but it's still a factor.

When I questioned my doctor about higher levels of joint pain during certain times of the month (as in pre-mense times) she gave a little laugh and said, 'Oh yes, we never really get rid of it because for years after menopause your ovaries are shrinking and your hormone levels are still changing.'
'At 73?!'
'Yes, I'm afraid so.'

It's testosterone for instance, which causes hairiness where no hair has dared to go before and lack of oestrogen which thins hair and causes dryness in important places - crazy!

It's no wonder people say God is a man, a Goddess would never have created us with so many curses. grin

I must be watching the wrong TV channels hmm

GrannyLaine Sun 29-Mar-20 22:51:45

merlotgran

...but some lube on the luge would be a fun thing, yes?

merlotgran Sun 29-Mar-20 22:53:56

grin

DH watches this and other ads eg Tena Ladies and invariably says "You women have no shame" He finds them intensely embarrassing, which I guess is why there are no adverts for male incontinence etc

SirChenjin Sun 29-Mar-20 22:57:37

Has he missed the dancing man on the Viagra ads? grin

moggie Sun 29-Mar-20 22:59:01

Good post agnurse

gmarie Sun 29-Mar-20 23:01:41

Bradfordlass73 Totally agree. Have been post-menopausal for maybe 17 (?) years now. Still get flashes of heat, migraines, and moodiness during the same times each month. Then, and on top of that I deal with those stupid chin hairs, a thinning pate, etc. Where's a Goddess when you need one?

Luckygirl Sun 29-Mar-20 23:04:16

Beware vaginal oestrogen cream - I was once given some and every oestrogen-sensitive cell reacted and swelled up - I finished up with something the size of a cauliflower in my knickers - what a nightmare that was - and after only one application!!!!!

SueDonim Sun 29-Mar-20 23:07:04

I thought this thread was going to be about putting KY Jelly into home made hot cross buns. grin

SirChenjin Sun 29-Mar-20 23:08:15

What the heck Lucky?! That made me wince and cross my legs! You poor thing flowers

ruthiek Sun 29-Mar-20 23:08:58

Omg. The Tena lady advert is so cringeworthy , the last thing I want to see is women rolling about on the bed whilst touching themselves angry

GabriellaG54 Sun 29-Mar-20 23:10:59

Yes..luge, a sport.

GabriellaG54 Sun 29-Mar-20 23:16:54

I've yet to see an ad for diarrhoea cures, featuring males. Scaredy cats.

SirChenjin Sun 29-Mar-20 23:19:13

They do however appear to suffer from heartburn and indigestion - but only if they’re brothers, it seems confused

blondenana Sun 29-Mar-20 23:20:58

I also hate those ads, and the one with the young mother saying a little bit of wee, ;;etc and the older women saying thy gush, as if all women are incontinent.
Do we really need these, and so embarrassing for men to watch, also Jenny Eclair with Vagisan, as if that will cure everything, all these make me cringe

GabriellaG54 Sun 29-Mar-20 23:22:04

TG I have no flashes, no shrinkage no hairiness or loss and no desire = no lube.
That ad sounds dreadfully embarassing. ??

GrannyLaine Sun 29-Mar-20 23:22:51

SueDonim grin

...and no franglais spoken here! Those Hot Cross Buns were mighty fine.
