I've discovered my "default" setting.......

My garden has become my 'part time' job. I am out there for up to 4/5 hours a day. I am loving it but wonder how i managed before with just the odd hour here and there. I usually play bowls and the season starts this month and the garden would have taken back place. I have trays of seedlings all flourishing in the greenhouse, beets, spring onions and lettuce in the garden, runner bean sticks up and waiting for the plants i am slowly hardening off each day{havent risked leaving them outside at night yet} lots of cherry tomato plants all potted up , far too many for me but i will leave some on the front garden for passers by to take rather than waste them. Usually gave them to bowls club members and family. Yesterday i potted on 22 Dahlias and i have trays of astors, aubretia and French marigolds. I am sure my garden will be the best it has ever been, thanks to the wondeerful weather and this free time. Just planted out 6 carnation plants, these were grown from cutting from a bunch my son gave me for Mother's day last year and i have nutured them until they were big enough to brave the great outdoord. No housework done again this week so far apart from kitchen, bathroom and laundry. So like others my drawers are still messy, my wardrobe still full of clothes i dont wear and the suitcases on the top of wardrobes are still full of summer clothes i have yet to get out and wash!!!!

I'm up and at it. Walk straight after breakfast, followed by household chores of the day. Then I can sit and relax in the garden with a book after lunch. Just can't get motivated to tackle the garden, though! Ah well, at least the bees are enjoying my dandelions!

I'm so glad that I'm not alone.

At the moment I'm busy reading Gransnet, then perhaps I'll go onto Mumsnet. That should take me a couple of hours. Then perhaps I'll have a sit down...

I find I'm sleeping later in the morning as well. I assume the traffic noise used to wake me, no longer.

I was a bit worried that it was only me who didn’t get up at sparrow fart to walk the five rescue dogs in the woods and come back to three course breakfast cooked and cleared up by DH. Then had several lines of washing blowing on the line before voluntary duties until lunch which is usually leftovers transformed into something utterly delicious and then redecoration of guest bedroom and redesign of own and neighbours back gardens and terraces. Tea consisting of pot of tea and well risen sponge cakes and several varieties of home made biscuits before zoom meeting with teen grandsons and help with philosophy homework before home cooked meal with veg from the allotment. Then run up few scrubs and crochet blankets for refugees before bed at 1 am

This is a fabulous discussion! Thank you all for making today smile. DH and I are going to give up work next week. We are not saying that we are retiring - just giving up paid/full time work

We have plans to achieve so much in the home and garden - but I like your plans and ideas soooo much more than the list we have.

How exciting to have time to do .... nothing!

Living in the last but one house of a cul de sac, traffic noise isn't a problem, but I'm starting to harbour feelings of a less than generous nature towards a certain blackbird.......

Be terribly careful, PennyWhistle - follow most of the advice given on this thread otherwise you will wonder how you EVER had time for paid/full time work !

I think we need a badge to wear, just like the NHS staff and the Care Staff. We could all wear it with pride and a smile on our faces. I could think about designing but actually doing it is another thing. Back from cycle ride, lunch has been eaten as has the coffee been drunk. No washing up to do cause it was a takeout. Now going to sit in garden and think until tea time.

Think positive thoughts, phoenix - if you can manage to spot another 23 of the little devils, there'll be enough for a pie.

Oh, I am so pleased to find a hoard of kindred spirits on here, I like many of you feel the need to "sort out things" but the need does not get "sorted" !! My OH is a great believer of "oh, it will get done another day", trouble is we have had lots of "other days" recently, but nothing has got done. I am so fortunate to not have OH that wants things in a pristine condition and looking like a show home, we even seem to just be "snacking on food", I can cope with that!! Less washing up........just going for a lie down sending this has worn me out!

I am so glad I am not the only one who has discovered their "inner Slut". I knew it was lurking there for years but had to lock her away and "be good". Now I am almost 88 and my hands and legs dont seem to want to work any more, I have a feeling she is here to stay! Oh! Well as I am still living alone I am pretty well isolated as it is and things are not likely to change, my dear family are caring and helpful but not nearby and visit whenever they can, so lock-down has not changed life for me very much. I am one of the lucky ones but many more older people are not so well placed. Remember them and go on helping them when this is all over.
