Do you turn your clothes inside out before washing

I turn all outer wear inside out to help protect trimmings, motifs etc and to prevent fading of dark colours. Also in case of bird 'accidents' on the washing line. I was most put out last week to find a bird had poo'd a pair of my pants!

I don’t have a hard and fast rule, sometimes inside out, sometimes right side out. I’m fussier about how it smells - love the fragrance of fresh laundry.

Welbec. Before detergents were invented washing up was done with soda crystals. Not very good for hands because no rubber gloves. Rinso was the first detergent and was also used for washing clothes instead of Sunlight soap or soap flakes for delicate items.
I wash everything inside out and some instruction labels advise ironing on the wrong side.

My mother always turned everything inside out, I only bother with jeans to prevent fading. Although I will try and remember to do it more often if it prevents material from bobbling (is there such a word)
Another thing that my mother always impressed upon me was to hang clothes on the washing line in the direction that the wind was blowing as this would mean that the clothes dried quicker.
I can also remember my mother using washing powder or washing soda to wash dishes in the fifties. I think the term washing up liquid is so convoluted, I prefer, for once, the American term, dish soap.

I don’t turn inside out for washing, but I picked up a washing habit when living in Australia. They prep their washing with stain remover where needed, eg shirt cuffs, etc. I think they called called it Preening after the name of the product. Maybe an older generation habit but everyone seemed to do it back then in 70/80s.

In recent years, I've had an addiction to white - jeans, tops etc - because it goes with anything, but what do you do about the occasional spot or bits of grubbiness? I dropped a tiny flake of chocolate on to white jeans recently, tried an instant removal which made it much worse. Likewise a bit of grubbiness on the sleeve of a Tshirt. Do you turn plain whites inside out in the w machine? Advice needed, please.

Yes, I turn all clothes inside-out, but not duvet covers.

I usally turn my underwear inside out but that is all otherwise I find it does not come clean.

There's a saying:if you wear it on top hang from the bottom and if you wear it on the bottom hang it from the top

Some but not all. Anything wollen, or delicate or with a pattern maybe..

It may be a bit drastic but I would try a bit of bleach to get the stain out. Pour a couple of drops of bleach into the top which comes with the bottle and add some water. Then dip a cotton bud into the bottle top and gently stroke on the stain. Leave for a few minutes then rinse in water, the stain should come out. Obviously this can only be done on white clothing. Perhaps you could try it on an inconspicuous part of the trousers first.

I rarely turn garments inside out before washing, but I do turn brightly coloured things before hanging them out in the summer.

No I dont, but it usually turns itself in side out all on its own!

Can't say I look for work -just bung it in the machine and hope for the best!! If I do get those powdery streaks, then it's time to clean the filter!

I do the opposite, everyyhing right way out before putting in machine.
That way as soon as its dry, line,dryer whatever, I can fold or iron straight away without fussing

Yes inside out, although I don't worry about pants or boxers or socks. And hang same as someone else said- trousers from waistband.
My dark trousers and tops are usually done on a cold short wash.

I do with duvet covers as I find it easier to put them back on the duvet inside out.

I wash dark clothes and fleecy fabrics inside out as no matter how careful I am there is always a tissue in the wash.

Welbeck, I remember that well. There was no such thing as washing up liquid. The box of washing powder (Persil ), as you say, stood at the kitchen sink.

Only do it with jeans stops them fading.

Yes I do with walking socks!

Yes. I do, and line dry inside out too - unless whites. They are washed right side out and dried that way too.

Always with darks, helps keep the colour.
