Modern house. Lots of glass, with a 3rd floor drawing room overlooking a deserted Northumbrian beach. With an attached catio.
House next door for DD and GS, so I could see my lovely boy every day.

What would you buy/do?
(184 Posts)When someone wins a large amount of money on the Lottery, Camelot advises them to take time to get over the shock. They've also discovered that people who have always struggled or been careful with money (which is most of us) find it difficult to spend more than they're used to...almost a sense of guilt. So Camelot advise them to buy themselves something (not gifts for others) that they would never have dreamed of buying in the past. This is to get them used to the idea that they can spend money on themselves and not just on others.
If you won the lottery and followed this advice what would you buy/do? Remember it can't be gifts for others. It has to be for you or you and your partner.
Custom made shoes and sandals that would not give me blisters and custom made bras would change my world for the better then I would set up support schemes for anyone with Aspergers like my son.
Helicopter, the ability to fly it and places to land it - so much easier to visit family all over the country. The extra enjoyment would flying over motorway traffic jams and thinking, “ That’s usually me!”
Oops, pressed send too quickly. On a more realistic level I’d have one of those electric scooters that I see more and more often, or a Segway. I really enjoyed my ‘gift experience’ on one.

I've always wanted a cottage in the New Forest.
My home is a New Forest bungalow. It was once a two bedroomed bungalow, but the former owner, a professional football player, who played for Southampton, converted out of all proportion. It's not right in The Forest, it's in a community on the edge of The Forest, right on the Hampshire/Dorset borderline.

I (We) have pretty much all we need. But I would splash out on a new sewing machine. I've been googling them and the one I'd love to have is £10,000!!!
My wife has been making clothes and other items since she was eight, it's a passion that she has never tired of. I treated her to a bespoke built cabin, where she has a couple of modern Juki sewing machines, an overlocker jukiuk.com/ and a sizeable collection of antique machines.
I would buy one of the pretty 2 bed white houses nearby and keep my flat so that there was always space for family to visit at the same time, then I would go to the nearest cat sanctuary and choose a cat or two or maybe I mean let a cat or two choose me.
We’d both go down to John Lewis and have a Personal Shopper kit the pair of out from head to toe in gorgeous new clothes and stop on the way back for a champagne and lobster meal!
I would buy a small group of barn conversions, overlooking the sea and open land, but very near a small town.
Just a group of 4 so that we could live in one and each of our children could have one each---to either live in permanantly or as a holiday home

I would be off to London for a visit to Rigby and Peller to have some bras made then on to The Deck for some tailor made trousers and jackets.
Oh what a joy it must be to have clothes that "fit" properly everywhere :-)
After that I have a "list" of who I's help and in what way depending on how much I'd won.
Never going to happen though as we no longer do the Lottery :-(
I like the idea of made-to-measure bespoke shoes, that actually fit properly and are comfortable. I find it almost impossible to find shoes that don’t hurt.
Then I’d move to a very nice flat in the London area, to be nearer my sons, and I’d pay my grandchildren’s school fees. That counts as something for me, because it would make me so happy to know they are secure and their parents don’t have to worry.
This is a lovely thread.
I’ve often been guilty of daydreaming of winning a sizeable amount on the lottery. My plans are / were to give substantial amounts to my children and grandchildren, then family and friends. I’d love them not to have money worries and to be able to treat themselves. I’d have to keep adjusting the amount given in my mind as I’d think of others I’d have to treat ie charities and wanted to make sure I had sufficient left for my own needs...but I never really thought what I’d spend on myself and my wants!
In the spirit of the thread, my first gift to me would be to have (Covid aside) full dental works. That would cheer me up no end. Then I’d look towards sharing my good fortune. Next, I’d look for a nice place to live in the U.K., a new car (not a flashy one, just a nice new one) and then a little place in Spain, not too far from the sea but inland, in a nice village or town. It has to have a nice roof terrace with a view of a castle lit up at night whilst I’m sat sipping my vino. It also has to have sufficient garden / outside ground floor area for my dog to run in and out, who will have a rescued companion to live with. Oh, my bedroom has to have access to a little terrace.
I can but dream
I would love to build my own home, here in the N.Ireland or maybe Scotland with floor to ceiling windows, maybe beside the sea or a loch. Maybe I'd have two because I really love Devon and Cornwall, oh decisions....As long as there's water to sit and watch as it's so calming and relaxing, even on the wild days. Sitting with a huge fire burning just looking out the window. Oh and I would have a cleaner and a gardener too.
Oh my goodness I am the girl for this. I have been a sucker for the lottery right from the start. I don't spend more than I can afford, but I am tempted to do just that quite frequently.
I have always struggled with money so the idea of winning a lot is like a dream to me. I would love to help my family and return their kindness to me.
I have a list of organisations I would donate to, starting with Sunderland Royal Infirmary that saved my newborn Granddaughter's life, moving onto the NSPCC and the Air Ambulance.
I probably would struggle with buying myself something really nice but I would try to overcome my reluctance !
I would buy a small holding, lots of animals, give my house away to someone in need and share money around immediate family and charities close to my heart

A severe fracture of my right ankle when I was fourteen resulted in my feet being just fractionally a different size. Probably an eighth difference and, like you, I wanted made-to-measure shoes.
The styles that I wear are all yesteryear, so I can never find the two tone styles that were once common place anyway, but I have found a specialist who makes them, and what a fine job he does too.
Hi. I would buy an apartment overlooking the lakes in Italy. Would employ a housekeeper to keep the place tidy. Would probably get myself a chauffeur as I dont drive. Apartment would be big enough for family to come and stay.
.... an end to all my stress
I would buy a decent size bungalow, facing South, with a lovely view. We currently live in a house, and it would make life much easier without having to climb stairs.
A garden room where I can do my various crafting activities.
I would try and buy the beautiful house we looked at in Northumberland years ago in a small Village at the time we just couldn't afford it I have always hankered after it,it would be a dream come true.
I would buy myself my first home of my own - a bungalow somewhere by the sea. I would also buy a motorhome so I could always have something to live in when I went away.
My dream home, especially as my husband has just been made redundant and our landlord (lovely man) needs his house back for himself. Also a very indulgent and luxurious holiday to think about what else we want to do and who we wanted to help whilst our every need was taken care of. If only...
Definitely a cleaner and gardener, as I would have lots of land for the wildlife and nature to do what they are supposed to do.
Hope at least one of us gets to have our dreams/plans come true,
Simply a change of home to the same location however I want parking and a larger garden please. My house is lovely lived here for along time but it’s lacking in those things.
I would love a bungalow with sea views. I actually won £1000 on the Postcode lottery this week, first time I have ever won a large sum of money. Not enough for my bungalow unfortunately, but if I won a lot I would help friends and family then charities.
