Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark but its dry outside , my usual trip out today on the buses, and say hello to those I have got to know .
It will Buckingham ,and then Bicester have a coffee and a snack there in cafe at the back of the bakery shop , then browse in Sainsburys before getting direct bus home .
This afternoon the Giro continues on Eurosport and watch the drama unfold.
Take Care ,
Mick

Good morning Mick from a S Hants where the weather is dithering, a bit overcast and chilly. No real excitement today, Tesco delivering pm. grandMattie it just goes on doesn’t it?
So, girding loins, if it doesn’t rain, I’ll do a bit in the garden later, check how my root veg are doing and weed.
Wishing you all, especially those with troubles, a peaceful day.

NannyJan53 Tue 13-Oct-20 08:13:51

Good Morning from a dull for dry for now Black Country.

There was only 8 of us on the walk yesterday, so easy to split into groups of less than 6. It started to rain just as we finished, then didn't stop all afternoon! Our area is in the lowest tier, so nothing changes much for us at the moment. In fact in the whole of the West Mids it is only Dudley area and Coventry remain in that tier.

No real plans for today, so it will be pottering about and reading I think. I think you would be better off staying where you are for a while longer Urmston although I am sure you are desperate to be nearer family.

Happy birthday to Wolfie. If you hadn't said his age Kitty I would have guessed he was one. Time really does speed by. Fingers crossed for your flat roof this time.

Wishing you all a good day with hugs and love to gilly

Good morning, the sky has cleared in Leicestershire.

We did NWR quiz last night on gardens and gardeners. It reminded me of my philosophy exam at uni when I didn’t know any of the answers! I was always the one on the right in Urmstons picture!

Nothing planned today but thinking of those who are absent and hope they will be back with us soon.

Gingster Tue 13-Oct-20 08:18:03

Good morning all from a darkish Essex. It’s not raining though. Makes a change!

Went to my chiming class yesterday , only 6 of us. The manager of the hall said we can have up to 12 as it’s big enough and well kept, covid wise! I really dont understand these rules!!!!!

Little pooch is off to the groomers soon, she trembles as she goes in. But she looks and smells lovely when she comes out.?.

I think we’re all feeling like you do Granmattie. The first time round was a bit of a novelty and we enjoyed the slower pace of life. But it’s now getting tedious.

GD1 messaged me saying she’s so bored in her Uni isolation. I popped to Asda and picked up a variety of little gifts to send her. I’ve boxed them up and live in hope that she receives them. ?. First time away from home , it’s not what she worked so hard for. I’d love to go and scoop her up and bring her home to the bosom if her family. ♥️

Hope your TV works out well for you Sar. In these times, we need a bit of on screen distraction and entertainment.

Enjoy whatever you’re up to today ???

Good morning from Morecambe Bay where it is dry at the moment. We are still deliberating where or whether to take the camper for a few days before the clocks change. DH really fancies Norfolk but it’s a long way and would mean an overnight stop both there and back as well as 2 or 3 nights there to justify the distance. Can the weather be kind for that length of time at the moment?
I bought trays of pansies yesterday for a couple of people we garden for. They will need planting but not today as rain is forecast again.
Take care and stay safe everyone ?

Lins1066 Tue 13-Oct-20 08:20:54

Good Morning Mick and all, started to rain here on the S Welsh coast, luckily MrLins has just returned from walking the puppy. Looks like you've found the reason for your pooch's itchiness Scentia, let's hope so. Sorry you've not slept Cherry, take care of yourself.
Our car has a service and its first MOT this morning. Hopefully some fresh fish for supper, I'll see what the fishmonger has on his van today.
Wishing everyone a pleasant day.

Beauregard Tue 13-Oct-20 08:23:52

Good morning from Derbyshire. Blue sky at the moment but rain coming in later.

Mr B tried to start our central heating yesterday but something's not right and it hasn't come on this morning, so I'm sitting with a blanket over my legs.

I've got to pop out to the agricultural merchants soon as one of the horses broke out of the stable as the door bolt needs replacing. Hope they have some, otherwise it's a further journey to a DIY store.

We harvested our first parsnip yesterday. I thought I'd include a photo as there are no "funniest veg" competitions happening at the moment. It's a foot long and definitely male! I thought it might raise a titter on a gloomy day.

Hope everyone is feeling well and today turns out to be a good day.

Good morning all from a grey Glasgow, we have day of mixed weather predicted.

I had a busy day yesterday. Fortunately much to my relief, when I got to the pharmacy, it was totally empty with no queues, and the missing prescriptions were found in a separate bag. A wee chat and catch up with the staff, lightened my spirits.

DH lasted only five minutes at the golf, in fact he didn't even start.. As he went out the heavens opened, so he and his golfing partner decided they didn't want to get wet! Wimps!!?

He offered to come with me, but I was craving time to myself!
As usual I had a plan.
A new huge Home Bargains had opened near the surgery and I was itching to go. On my own of course. DH would have been in and out in five minutes and cramped my style.
It was really quite and an Aladdin's cave of stuff! I picked up all the things like soap and toothpaste, which I are so much less expensive than Tesco.
There was a huge stash off Hallowe'en stuff, so I picked up items to make goodie bags for my wee granddaughter and my neighbours' grandchildren. I was well pleased with myself, quite smug in fact!? It was one less thing to worry about.

That was until I got to the checkout. Oh how I wished DH had been there. The realisation that I was going to struggle to lift everything including two bags of logs onto the conveyor belt, hit me!?
What a fool I was! I had got carried away with my taste of freedom!!?That's DHs job to unpack trolleys!!!!?
He was not amused when I came back. Away too long and lifting heavy items. My independence means a lot to me and recently I lost that, due to shielding. ☹️

Urmonston, Gilly, told me she was taking a break from GN , as she felt that she had a lot to deal with at present and didn't want to bring negativity to this gentle forum.
I feel that is all I can say. Perhaps, it's best we don't speculate, just hope she comes back soon.
She withdraws now and again, but always comes back.
Let's all keep her in our thoughts and continue to hope things improve.

Amusing poem, Ashcome, why not share it on a politics thread for others to read.?

As for the Doghouse4, they are still reading your posts, appreciate your support and hope to be back soon.
I suspect GNHQ are a bit shocked at the reaction of many posters to their harsh treatment of them!☹️

For all with sorry and worries I'm sending virtual hugs.?

Jaxjacky Tue 13-Oct-20 08:40:16

Beauregard I must go and dig one of mine up now! ?

EllanVannin Tue 13-Oct-20 08:43:18

Good Morning All x ( don't know what's good about it here ! )
Brightening up outside but looking damp everywhere though it doesn't feel too cold as yet. No heating on until the evenings up to now.

Nothing much needed in the way of groceries after a large shop last week, but won't be going far that's for sure as it's quite concerning in this area. We've got that eerie silence again with no sound of local vehicles or schoolchildren for that matter.

We're not as built-up here as everyone in Liverpool and we have the river and the tunnel separating us from the city so I'm hoping the virus keeps its distance.
If I were you Urmston, I'd stay put until Spring, hard as it might be on family but safer for you and DH. I would grin

The lazy old Tom cat hasn't surfaced from his kennel yet. He usually has his face pressed up to the patio door ready for his breakfast. He is still breathing because I peeped out and saw his whiskers twitch grin--just making sure because he's old.

Should be doing some cupboard sorting really while the bin's empty. I might shock myself yet. Ironing first though.

Just looking at my flowers from 10 days ago, they're still beautiful ! A vase full of roses are still as fresh as they first were and mixed ones have all opened and are holding up fine, so many lovely colours, so cheery.

Oh, here's the sun-----and I can see a cobweb hahaha.

I'll give D a ring later to see how she's getting on. I worry about her at work with her job being hands-on with people so I'll encourage her to get a flu-jab as it'll be some protection at least. She'll be 57 in December---other D will be 60 in January, dear me. It just makes me want to laugh having " old " daughters. Can't believe it really.

Crumpets are calling and hot chocolate too which I look forward to every morning. Pea soup for later today so that'll be me sorted.

I hope everyone stays well and safe in these times with thoughts to those who aren't coping too well xx Gilly, I wish things would buck up for you, look after yourself x

Mapleleaf Tue 13-Oct-20 08:43:20

Good morning,

It's a beautiful, bright morning, but chilly here in South Yorkshire - we need something to cheer us a bit as yesterday's news means we are going into tier 2 from tomorrow, so no meeting anyone indoors safely distanced until further notice. We can sit in the garden, but honestly, in the winter months that's not going to happen. I really think we are in for a tough few months. Still, must try to remain positive, though it's hard.

Love the parsnip, Beauregard and agree with your conclusion ??.

I've got to pop out later and deliver my nieces birthday card. The walk will do me good.

Well, take care everyone and thinking especially of our missing posters. ?

Nortsat Tue 13-Oct-20 08:47:26

Good morning Mick and the GM team, from a grey east London.

I have a couple of hours work to do this afternoon. Will have a walk this morning.
I am still on the long, tedious journey of trying to pay the tax charge that HMRC tell me I owe them.
When you include the unbelievable incompetence of some of their staff and the complicated number of different websites for different parts of the process, it’s a real tedious pain in the b*m.

I plan to make hamburgers and potato wedges for supper tonight.

Cherry, sorry you had a bad night, I hope you have a better day.
Ashcombe we loved the poem, thank you. I won’t say more as this is the gentle GM thread.
Scentia glad your dogs itches and your cold sores are calming down.
Good morning Doghouse 4 and dear gilly if she’s reading.
Thinking of Bluesapphire and all those facing challenges today. Have a pleasant day, all. ?

EllanVannin Tue 13-Oct-20 08:49:14

Well that parsnip made me laugh. Great isn't it ? grin

Nortsat Tue 13-Oct-20 08:53:57

Beauregard ... Percy the Parsnip ...??

Anniebach Tue 13-Oct-20 08:55:36

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Georgesgran Tue 13-Oct-20 08:59:30

Good Morning from Durham. Grey and wet here this morning. I suppose we have good news, downgraded to Tier 2, so we can now meet up in a private garden (I ? think) and not just a pub/cafe garden?
Hope to see DD1 and DGS today, but if SIL isn’t at work that won’t happen as he’s ultra cautious. DD2 wants us to have her dogs for the rest of the week as her builders are now working inside, so hope the weather improves. Older dog is no bother, but youngster’s mental! I’ll need eyes in the back of my head and I’ll be confined to barracks too. Could take older dog out, but can’t trust DH to look after puppy.
Hope everyone has the best day today. X

CherryCezzy Tue 13-Oct-20 08:59:55

The question is are you going to peel that parsnip with a sharp knife Beauregard ?

Grammaretto Tue 13-Oct-20 09:00:35

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it is not a good morning at all. Lashing with wind and rain.
I don't find the Lockdown too hard as long as I can still go for walks, see my DC and DGC on zoom and whatsapp and very occasionally in reality.
I looked after the 2 youngest yesterday for a couple of hours which was a real tonic.
I liked your poem Ashcombe though had to wake up to understand the context
I liked your naughty parsnip Beauregard I was told parsnips taste even better once they have been out in the frost so not to harvest until then. Won't be long now...

I am very glad you had a successful "shopping" trip Marydoll and news of Gilly.
I am supposed to be having a roof repair estimate today. No chance in this weather.

I hope you all have the best day you can.

Sark Tue 13-Oct-20 09:08:24

Good Morning all.
Not knowing what Boris was going to say I took yesterday afternoon off and shot down to Wiltshire to stay with my parents for the night which I have really enjoyed.
I feel very lucky that we still have them, they are very special.
I have no idea who the 'Doghouse' 4 are but hope you are back soon and Gilly of course.
Cherry hope you have a rest today.
Urmstongran you said what I was thinking about GrandmaFrench I too love hearing about French France.
Have a good day everyone flowers

Nannytopsy Tue 13-Oct-20 09:11:23

Good morning Mick and all his followers.
Back home after a couple of days away, we are ready to get the garden finished but it has just started to rain. Just our luck!
Sewing today then and I shall look for a new soup recipe.
I hope the day is kind to everyone.

Beauregard Tue 13-Oct-20 09:12:53

CherryCezzy the thought of that brings tears to my eyes!!

Grammaretto you're right about the frost. But we could see from the top it was a biggie so just had to dig him up. There are many more left for after the frosts. Wasn't expecting it to have fanged into two legs though!

Nannytopsy Tue 13-Oct-20 09:14:36

Beauregard you could call it John Willy. My dad used that as a pet name for little grandsons.

Kalu Tue 13-Oct-20 09:14:45

Good morning all from a greyish start in Glasgow.

Pleased to hear the cold sores are drying up Scentia, now comes the unbearable itchy part. Please be a good girl and say nothing controversial. Can’t have you expelled too!
Urm I framed a small print of ‘don’t be the girl on the right’ for DD2 as that is her to a T. She has hung it with pride in her hall. ?. I have a photo of her and her ballet class of 4yr olds, DD2 is the one on the right with a huge sticking plaster on her knee!
Happy Birthday to Wolfie ???. Have a lovely meet up with your family kitty
Sorry to hear you had such a rotten night Cherry. I don’t think you could be boring even if you tried?. Hopefully you can rest up today and feel much better.
Had a chuckle at the photo of Mr. Parsnip Beauregard Hope you managed to secure the stable door of the one making a bid for freedom. A runaway horse is a nightmare.
Can’t believe you are home already annsixty. Take special care of yourself on a steady road to recovery. We look forward to the arrival of the ^new woman^?

Have a pleasant day all and special thoughts to our friends who are having troubled times.

harrigran Tue 13-Oct-20 09:19:41

Good morning from the NE where we have torrential rain.
We have a delivery of restaurant food today, fillet steak and other meats, starters and side dishes. We have also ordered French yogurts and pain au raisin for breakfasts.
DD has sent DH a text to tell us to expect a bouquet delivery, nearly a year since I last saw her.
Sister spent 15 minutes on our front drive yesterday huddled under an umbrella, she had been to the hairdressers.
Bad night, both with various pains and discomfort.
