1000 words. Photos on GN.

They say a picture paints a thousand words and there have been some lovely photos on GN recently. I am a visual person and, especially at this time, pictures cheer me up. Autumn scenes, people's gardens, cake baking, craftwork, pets, clothes we fancy buying etc. Even stock images of Boris, royalty etc.
What is the general feeling? Are they superfluous or do they add another dimension? Are we "allowed" to just drop them into a non photographic thread?

lots of Mistletoe about. This photo was taken about a week ago.
Now it's foggy everywhere today.

FannyCornforth did you make the (fir cone) deer? No, wish I could. It was for sale at £275.00!! There were two of them if anyone felt inclined grin
Actually I thought the small table centres were much nicer, but still a bit expensive at £50

How annoying for you farview. I havent any tips or advice as I'm hopeless when tech goes wrong. I hope it all sorts itself out soon.

Greyduster Fri 27-Nov-20 23:15:26

Now that’s a first for me. I know mistletoe is parasitic but I have never seen it growing on the host tree!

Callistemon Fri 27-Nov-20 23:24:08

There is a lot of mistletoe growing around here - I commented in previous years that it would be worth a lot of money if harvested. However, I doubt anyone will want any this year.

lemongrove Fri 27-Nov-20 23:34:21

I saw some just the other day nearby, the first time I have seen it here.Is it a bumper year for mistletoe, due to weather?

There was a recent item on Farming Today about the mistletoe auctions being cancelled due to lack of demand. Usually pubs, hospitality, florists come and bid that's obviously not the case this year.

I think it was this auction that was mentioned but I imagine they take place in other areas.

Thus one is for Fanny from a different thread.
Cool dude, in more ways than one!

FannyCornforth Sat 28-Nov-20 11:47:59

Ha ha Ellianne! grin
I followed your trail!
When I arrived here my mouth dropped!
Brilliant!!smileflowers

FannyCornforth Sat 28-Nov-20 11:49:27

Nam's 275 quid?!?
It's nice, but not that nice...

Ellianne Sat 28-Nov-20 11:50:55

On another trail here! I have had permission from the author Witzend to copy. Just hope in the interests of sharing GN allows it. Or I will just have to come up with the suggestion myself.

I’d never heard of this before, but dd’s road are doing it - lots of families with young children and generally very community-minded.

24 houses are participating. They’re each allocated a day when they will make a Christmassy display in a front window, all kept up throughout Advent, or rather from the 1st to the 24th, so everybody else can enjoy an ‘Advent-window watching walk’ after dark.

Gdcs are very excited about getting their window ready for their allocated day!

Ellianne Sat 28-Nov-20 11:54:10

Shall we each take a day and a theme, it can be indoors for those staying at home or outdoors too? I'm trying to think of a way not to bombard the thread and keep it simple. We could add to the day's theme if it is of the same subject matter? Or wait for our turn.

Namsnanny Sat 28-Nov-20 12:02:07

I think Mistletoe prefers certain types of tree, but I shall have to look up which one Greyduster
As I said previously lots of trees have globes of it all over them.
Lemongrove I know it takes quite a few years for the plant to reach the size in the photo. So I would imagine conditions have been beneficial for some time.
If demand is less Riverwalk perhaps that's why it's still on the trees?

Namsnanny Sat 28-Nov-20 12:06:11

Do you mean post photos under a theme Ellianne?
Changing the theme each day?
If so sounds a good idea!

Greyduster Sat 28-Nov-20 12:18:30

I thought it was apples, Nams but I could be (and very often am) wrong.

Greyduster Sat 28-Nov-20 12:39:41

Ellianne your dog made me laugh out loud! Thankyou!

Urmstongran Sat 28-Nov-20 12:51:44

Ellianne Sat 28-Nov-20 13:06:40

That picture really does say 1000 words from your daughter Urmstongran and the colouring from the children.
Lovely colours seacliff.

Ellianne Sat 28-Nov-20 13:22:54

Where have all those apples gone?

seacliff Sat 28-Nov-20 13:28:12

What a view. I can imagine that at apple blossom time.

Namsnanny Sat 28-Nov-20 14:21:08
