1000 words. Photos on GN.

They say a picture paints a thousand words and there have been some lovely photos on GN recently. I am a visual person and, especially at this time, pictures cheer me up. Autumn scenes, people's gardens, cake baking, craftwork, pets, clothes we fancy buying etc. Even stock images of Boris, royalty etc.
What is the general feeling? Are they superfluous or do they add another dimension? Are we "allowed" to just drop them into a non photographic thread?

Teetime

Loving all the photos - thank you for the nice comments about Grannie Emily Gotsheim Stenzhorn I think they only took non-smiling photos in those days.

Crumbs Teetime that's a name to conjour with.

I have ones of my nan, her mum and her mother in law looking like that! My nan's family name was Smith. grin

I noticed the photographer's studio address teetime 419 Bethnal Green Road near where I walked to work. There was a fire there about 20 years ago and two firemen were killed.
From the name was your relative German or American?

grannyqueenie Sat 17-Oct-20 15:16:46

Maybe we’re related kitty, my maiden name was Smith.... it’s not like there’s many of them around!! grin

kittylester Sat 17-Oct-20 16:04:11

We must be gq. I think my friend must have been married to your brother. grin

Just been on my daily walk and with this thread in mind....

LauraNorder Sat 17-Oct-20 16:23:24

MissAdventure it wasn’t a big cock grin

Ellianne Sat 17-Oct-20 17:07:10

Nice cattle Laura

DanniRae Sat 17-Oct-20 17:24:34

Ladies please, show a little decorum. grin All this talk of male chickens. At least give then their correct name......they are cockerels when they are young and roosters when adult. To help me with this post I nearly googled "cocks"....ooh I nearly got more information than I bargained for blush

A random selection from my saved pictures: a cheerful bunch of sunflowers; the mind-boggling 8-sailed windmill at Heckington and Nutfield, Surrey after a torrential downpour.

Scribbles Sat 17-Oct-20 17:28:27

Thanks for starting this thread, Ellianne. It really has brightened a bad day for me.

Ellianne Sat 17-Oct-20 17:33:47

Sorry to hear that Scribbles.
There was a chink of light up on the hills today, hope it comes your way tomorrow.

LauraNorder Sat 17-Oct-20 19:28:52

You’re right DanniRae and showing off my rooster sounds so much better.
Me too MissAdventure I love seeing people’s views, homes, flowers, everything that helps to get to know each other better without losing anonymity.
Scribbles love yours, especially that last one, very atmospheric. Yours too Ellianne the woodland one is quite artistic.
I do hope this thread attracts lots of attention just like Mick’s good morning one, it would be nice to see everyone’s daily walks, scenery, jugs of flowers, fruit bowl, fireplace, whatever.

Someone on his way to work......

Bathsheba Sat 17-Oct-20 21:58:12

Oh well spotted MellowYellow. Although it would be quite difficult to miss him grin

PamelaJ how wonderful is nature? Your photo of the tree tentatively sending out new shoots after such devastation is life affirming.

I love your painting Purplepixie, what a talent you have! Are they Penstemon?

Bathsheba Sat 17-Oct-20 22:04:11

I love photography. Here are some of my favourite nature shots.

Our first snowfall of the season.

My lovely savoury tea at my favourite cafe, the other day. Love the little pansy decoration.

Lisagran Sun 18-Oct-20 07:22:09

Stunning shots, Bathsheba

MellowYellow Sun 18-Oct-20 07:25:43

This makes me smile. The cafe is run by someone with English as their second language, and he had trouble spelling customer......

A double rainbow taken from my front doorstep and a favourite walk in the Peak District.

MellowYellow Sun 18-Oct-20 09:21:18

Wow, those rainbows Greyduster! Double treasure at the bottom of them? wink
