Burnham tried to claim that Manchester Covid figures weren’t at all bad last week.Yes, the economy is important as are livelihoods but unless we want the UK to sink back to April levels then things have to change.We have all seen the pics of Manchester’s younger people out in big groups drinking last weekend to see that so many have no regard whatsoever for others.

Have you ever been to Manchester? Greater Manchester includes many small former mill towns, where I doubt there have been people out partying.

My daughter was out one evening when the so-called partying/rioting took place. She told me she didn't see it, so it must have been in a relatively confined area. Of course, the media will have picked up on it. People behaving themselves doesn't make good copy.

Do you have any idea how Universal Credit works? Seriously? They won't get even 66% of the minimum wage - never mind the 80% Johnson claimed. Some people won't even be eligible for it. He's a liar!

In total lockdown there was a better financial package lemon than the one currently being offered to Greater Manchester. Andy Burnham costed a deal 90mill to the end of the financial year, but was willing to accept 65 mill.

I couldn't give a toss about anything he's got to say any more. I'm sick of hearing about Covid, lockdowns, masks, safe distancing, etc., etc. It's all so bloody boring now.

Yes, we are all bored, believe it or not. We have got to use our intelligence and sense to get out of this god awful mess.
But unfortunately, due to our PMs lack of clarity and leadership, this sentiment will be rife.

I happen to know the figures for UC because I've lost about half of my earned income since March, but I'm not eligible for UC because I have an occupational pension, which takes me over £95 a week. I have savings, which I've used, but many of these people won't. Like me, they have rent and bills to pay and food to buy, but they won't be able to, unless they get into debt.

I imagine the partying and riotous scenes were in Manchester City itself..... but really, so what?
Everywhere has to accept that things will get tougher and start complying with rules.

Yes trisher the better amount (in lockdown) was for those workers furloughed, but that’s ending in October.
If there is another national lockdown no doubt there will be the same furlough money given then.

Why "no doubt"? Furlough has been reduced to 66% not 80%.

Johnson lies on national TV, every time he holds a press briefing, every PMQ, every time he speaks at the dispatch box. When he’s confronted by his lies, he lies again and says he never said it. He’s been sacked at least twice for lying.

I am no Boris fan but if he had offered 3 times as much to Andy Burnham it wouldn't have been good enough .. he is playing political games.

I agree Sark and in fact he said just the other day that he wouldn’t ‘cave’ just for a big cheque.
He hasn’t done Manchester any favours by his actions.

So Newark which has a population of around 120,000 gets 20 mill. But Manchester with a population of 2.8 million can't have 65 mill. And who is playing politics?

Let's have Andy Burnham for Labour leader please. He stood up to Boris but sadly lost out. Good on him for trying anyway. He's shown more backbone than Starmer and he's passionate about what he believes in. I think we'll be seeing a lot more of Andy in the years to come.
