Here we are again. As happy as we can be (in the circumstances). All good pals and jolly good company.

Cheers! cupcake wine brew cafe and whatever else that you fancy, providing it's legal. smile

Your DD is a talented baker Grandmabatty. They are just gorgeous. Your day sounds very soothing - it’s good to hear ?
Still raining here ....... all day so far.

soop Sun 06-Dec-20 16:40:23

Hello again Puzzler. How am I today? hmm doing everything in my power to remain upbeat. We all have such days. I'm not alone. In fact, I have a thousand and one reasons to snap out of the doldrum and plonk a grin on my silly face.

Grandmabatty Did you bake these wonderful cupcakes? Or, are they the work of your daughter? I think that look amazing. I can almost taste them.

soop Sun 06-Dec-20 16:45:03

I see that the cake creator is Grandmabatty's daughter. Wow!

I'm about to retire with today's newspaper. MacSporran has lit the log fire. Lovely jubbly.

Kind thoughts to you all. Thinking especially of those of our Granspals who feel below par. I hope that the new week holds some good things in store. We all deserve a bit of a treat.

Until tomorrow smile moon

kittylester Sun 06-Dec-20 16:58:55

Just popped in to see how everyone is.

Seems a few of us are having less than good days. I hope everyone feels better soon whether it be feeling more upbeat or just healthier. It's a funny time for lots of us!

Gosh that is not good having a spider up your leg GrandmaFrench I hope it gets better soon.

The wine sounds delicious Galen we have a few bottles on the wine rack which we are saving - not sure what for!

Yummy cupcakes Grandmabatty. Your DD is very talented.

dragonfly46 Sun 06-Dec-20 17:08:47

We had an exciting start to the day with water pouring through the sitting room ceiling. I had just used the shower in the guest room and it would seem that some of the piping has dislodged. My delightful plumber was there within the hour and is going to put all the tiles on floor and walls back during the week. Thank goodness it didn't happen on Christmas day!!

I managed to get the tree up though after all the excitement.

annsixty Sun 06-Dec-20 17:45:15

My tree

Galen Sun 06-Dec-20 17:53:18

Not having one this year. CBA.
My right hip which was replaced 26 years ago with an estimated life span of 10-20 years is getting painful and feeling unstable.
I really don’t want to have it replaced at the moment with the bug around.
Grrrrr?

On the bright side I’ve managed to order a lobster for Xmas. Cost an arm and a leg but it comes frozen and ready dressed, so as it’s a big one I can have half at a time!

Grandmabatty Sun 06-Dec-20 17:54:21

Annsixty your tree is lovely. Thank you all for the cupcake compliments. She loves baking and has had about ten orders to fulfil this Christmas, despite having a toddler and working nearly full time. I was forced (!) to try a chocolate orange one as she had changed her recipe. It was absolutely delicious. Have a good evening all.

Grandmafrench Sun 06-Dec-20 21:44:06

Hello all ! ?‍♀️

Lovely trees, ladies. So cheerful and - if we can think past any Covid gloom - totally appropriate and more of what we need to be looking at. Mine is yet to be put up but very soon now.

Not convinced about your DD's cupcakes, Grandmabatty. It's all very well her being so talented and making you Head Taster and giving you boxes to try but I am increasingly feeling like a child with no pocket money and a nose pressed up against the cake shop windows!! Stop it, it's cruel!! Give me just a chance, I wouldn't want to stop at a chocolate orange one. Hopefully her character is a lot stronger than mine. ?And can you tell this un-Scottish person what "I shall have to hand in a wee minding" means, please? I just love the phrases all you Scots use - is it a baby-sitting reference, perhaps?

Do hope that a good day has been had by all. I have steam cleaned the kitchen to my satisfaction and then had a long conversation with No.1 Son in the UK. We laughed a lot at his tale of travelling to a big city along the coast on the top of a double decker (no parking ever to be had without two mortgages in big city/often no space). He and partner were the only occupants on the top deck where all the windows were (sensibly) open. He felt it was a sound idea, but maybe not if you were actually a passenger, since the wind was blowing off the sea and it was raining. Apparently these rather bracing conditions do keep you awake and alert! (He said).

Goodness, dragonfly, you might not be keen on spiders in your trousers but what an experience to have to deal with first thing in the morning - and you still did the tree. What a trouper you are! tchwink Lots of rather bad language would have been my Sunday starter, I feel. Thank heavens for a good and obliging plumber. How lovely - lobster, Galen. We managed to take advantage of our fishmonger's unexpected special offer on Coquilles St Jacques yesterday so have ordered for some delish Christmas starters. That's as far as I've got with the Christmas food. Take care of your hip just a while longer and until its replacement is safely organised. That gorgeous posing Ruby, Puzzler - obviously having such a stressful day. Meanwhile, I suspect that Miss Tara at Charleygirl Cottages was having an equally cosy and stress-free day.

I agree with soop, Susan, that wonderful photo needs to be enlarged and displayed. I wonder what those dear little calves were thinking?

Don't give in to the glooms, soop - a little pout or rude word or sigh or wobble is allowed, but only a very brief one. You've gone through a lot, so don't be too impatient. Forever Onwards must be printed on your Christmas jumper, I think. Upside down, so that you can read it when you're looking down/feeling down, of course. We'll have to think about a slogan for Fern's little jumper.

Feel better corner, have a good sleep and try not to worry yourself to infinity about other adult family, however much you love them. I've just about managed to follow my own advice and that's one of the reasons I feel a lot brighter of late.

Keep on taking care and wearing a smile. We're going to get there. If you're reading, Flora, hope you are o.k. Hello and nighty night to Lins - thank you and Nannytopsy and Doodle for your kind wishes. feelingmyage migraines are vile. Do hope that it is on the wane now. Not at all helpful when a Doctor minimises one's symptoms. But you'll certainly get enough moral support on here. Hope your Sunday turned out well after that self-inflicted kick up the jacksie, Cherry. Suppose you know what's best! smile

Goodnight to you, kitty and to Grammaretto some healing sleep. Take special care, special people. Hugs x

Grandmafrench Tara did not like breakfast with her medicine in it so ran out early in a huff. She did eat her supper, again with medicine in it because maid service was not changing any food and it was take it or leave it. She gobbled it down. I always leave a plateful out overnight because that is when she usually finishes off the contents in the bowls.

She may not have the food quantity of a store but she certainly has the variety.

She and I will be retiring to bed shortly.

annsixty Sun 06-Dec-20 22:08:02

I have been out tonight for the first time for many months.
I took my GD and 2 of her friends who have been so good to the both of us over the past months.
We are in Tier 3 and just one mile down the road is Tier 2 and I decided to break the rules and booked one of our favourite restaurants.
I will take all your criticism and field it.
We had a superb meal in a beautifully decorated place.
It was the start of Christmas for us and it was lovely.
We saw some extremely well decorated houses and it did us all a whole lot of good.
I am tucked up now with a cup of tea and I wish you all a peaceful night.

Feelingmyage55 Sun 06-Dec-20 22:15:13

Grandnafrench. A “minding is a small gift to show that you have remembered the occasion. (mind and get the milk/remember to get the milk). So for a baby it might be a rattle or a knitted hat or bootees. For a wedding present a “minding” from a neighbour might have been a couple of dish towels or a peg bag and pegs, small helpful presents. If you take a wee minding when you go for coffee it could be a packet of biscuits, some home baking or a posy from the garden. The latter is a point of not arriving empty handed.

Grandmafrench Sun 06-Dec-20 22:26:20

Oh how lovely, I'd never have guessed that. Thanks for the explanation, feeling. Think you've certainly got the measure of Miss Tara Charley. Sleep well both of you.

So glad you had a lovely evening, Ann - and I'm not judging.

Nannytopsy Sun 06-Dec-20 23:00:51

You sound so chipper Ann - that hint of civil disobedience did you a power of good, I can tell!
My two teams ( Leicester Tigers and Wolves) had a dismal weekend so I think it’s time for bed. One of those cup cakes would just see me right!
Night night all

Flora5 Mon 07-Dec-20 09:46:36

Morning all. It's hard to catch up with everyone when you don't drop in everyday isn't it ?!
So just a hello to all and hope we are all still sharing the love . ( and the tea N chat of course). I am dog walking in the mist which is slightly disorienting, Lolly seems to be oblivious and crashing on regardless.
Present wrapping later and not much else really confused

tanith Mon 07-Dec-20 10:06:52

Just popping to say hi, as Flora5 says it’s hard to keep up but hoping everyone is able to deal with any problems and hardships that they face this Christmas. I’m just off to the post office to buy stamps and post two overseas envelopes before the posting dates. It’s pretty foggy out so no doubt my freshly washed hair will be a frizzy curly mess when I return ?.
Have a good day with lots of tea and treats.

Grandmabatty Mon 07-Dec-20 13:19:58

Feelingmyage thank you for the tip top description of a 'wee minding'. That is it exactly grandmafrench. I'm having an unexpected lazy day. My doctor's appointment for this morning was cancelled at eight o'clock. I had already swapped babysitting days so no dgs to entertain. I was expecting a delivery which has been so I could go out but have decided to wrap presents instead. So alexa is playing King's college choir singing carols, the gingerbread scented candle is lit and I'm wielding sellotape and scissors. Have a good afternoon all.

soop Mon 07-Dec-20 13:57:43

Good afternoon lovely peeps. I can see that you've all been busy doing nothing (not) and I raise my hat to all the wonderful things that you've put your mind to and achieved. You lot are inspirational. flowers

Just a wee tail tale to share with you. A mystery in the making.

It was dark outside but "Fern" triggered the outside light. Being nosy, I went to the window. Our cat was in "on guard" mode. She moved stealthily towards something that had her attention. It was another smaller cat. It was crouched low beside the corner wall of the house. Fern sat still every so often. Then she moved a few steps nearer to the visitor. They sat staring at each other. No signs of aggression. No yowling. No fur flying. When the light went out, I lost sight of them. A little later, Fern returned to her apartment alone and went to bed.

Puzzler61 Mon 07-Dec-20 16:02:16

Fern is a cat of ‘intrigue’ - don’t you wish cats could talk to us soop? They would have so many tales to relate.
I bought my stamps too early for them to be Christmas stamps tanith but I am a little alarmed to see on TV that the cost of a 1st class stamp is rising from 76 pence to 85 pence in January.
I am going out soon to the dentist. I’ve not looked forward to it all day and have to wait until 5 pm for my appt. A decaying tooth is coming out.
It will be dark outside, very cold and the fog is thickening. ?
TOYA.

Flora5 Mon 07-Dec-20 16:23:39

Freezing fog for my 4 0'clock dog walk , quite spooky out here in middle of nowhere ....hot choc on my return home

Nannytopsy Mon 07-Dec-20 16:50:19

What a day! The hoar frost has not moved all day and neither have I ?.
Busy on the clothkits coat - it didn’t take this long last time, but it was 30 years ago and I wasn’t distracted by GN!
These are two of my new Christmas stockings, copied from some I made many years ago. They do make you buy small stocking fillers!
TOYA.

Grandmabatty Mon 07-Dec-20 17:27:03

Puzzler61 I hope your dentist visit is quick and pain free. Nannytopsy those are beautiful. You are very creative. Soop Fern is a mystery cat right enough! A wee friend or a child? I have wrapped about half of the gifts and discovered two people who I forgot to write cards for so duly written and I will post them tomorrow. I must pick up the radio times festive edition too to plan my viewing. See you tomorrow.

BladeAnnie Mon 07-Dec-20 17:30:05

Just popping in to say hello to everyone after a busy day on nanna duty. Hope everyone has had a good day? Puzzler I would LOVE to know what Duncan talks about!! For those of you wondering, Duncan is my cat who has somewhat regal tendencies. I'm sure he thinks he is a Lord or something along those lines!! Tomorrow is my sister's funeral - so I think it is going to be a sad and difficult day

soop Mon 07-Dec-20 17:41:17

BladeAnnie All felines have regal tendencies. It's an undeniable fact. wink

Puzzler With luck, you have had the dental treatment and I'm wanting you to be cosied up in your favourite chair and feeling heaps better.

Nannytopsy I love your Christmas stockings. They are works of art. To be treasured for all time.

Grandmabatty We now know that the man from the Cat Protection League needs to be contacted right after Christmas. We need to get "our cat" neutered asap. It's only fair, as there are far too many feral cats on the prowl.

I took the following photo through the window about an hour or so ago.

Goodnight to you all. Until tomorrow smile moon
