Statues of Famous Women

Following on from the controversy over the Mary Wollstonecraft can you think of any statues of famous women that you like or approve of?

There are a few of Mrs. Pankhurst but my favourite is this one of Lucy Maud Montgomery with her Cavendish cats. It’s in Montgomery Park in Canada.

Last one, I promise. Well for a while anyway smile.

"Fisher Jessie" in Peterhead. She is modelled on the mother of a local poet and represents all the women who worked in the fishing industry. The sculptor was Andy Scott, who later created The Kelpies

There was talk at some point of having a statue of Margaret Thatcher in her home town of Grantham. No doubt there were objections from some quarters.

The bronze one in the Houses of Parliament is a lovely tribute to her though.
