Hello All
I'm often awake in the small hours,
for a variety of reasons which I'm sure that many are familiar with.
So I'm starting this thread for anyone in the same position.
We can chat, share our 3am worries, whatever.
If you fancy popping on for whatever reason, here is the thread for all Night Owls moon
See you later x

Yes, I have a couple of parcels in the offing. That's why I wasn't worried, just annoyed.

Kim19 Fri 04-Dec-20 08:24:49

Been on to my bank. Card cancelled. Thank you. Apparently the bank were aware of this scam. Don't exactly know what that means in terms of the action they can take on individuals' accounts.

Georgesgran. Yes, the shops were busy, so too the Metro Centre. Ikea was quiet but I didn't get there until late afternoon so may have missed the rush. I expected to have to queue but walked straight in! I have to say it was my first time in Ikea Newcastle and the staff were very friendly. Having previously lived in Suffolk I used to go to the one at Lakeside and the staff there were very sullen and grumpy.
Redhead56, yes Northumberland is blinking wonderful! We love it here and will love it even more when this pandemic thing goes away.
Well Night Owls it's a day if pottering for me. Might even wrap the Christmas presents.

Woodmouse Fri 04-Dec-20 09:47:07

jdja I love George Michael's music and cried when he passed.
Yes, all that shopping worked wonders. I slept brilliantly last night which is very rare for me.
I hope you have a good day.

FannyCornforth Fri 04-Dec-20 10:22:10

Hi Kim oh no. What a nuisance.
I very nearly fell for it.
I was actually in the process of sending 'DPD' an email of complaint in reply when the penny dropped.
If I hadn't had that extra breathing space I would have just clicked and paid.

Taichinan Fri 04-Dec-20 23:50:16

Hello there Night owls. After not getting to sleep until after 5.30 this morning I am desperately hoping for a sleep during the night tonight! I have switched the heating back on so that if I don't sleep I can get up and be cosy downstairs instead of tossing and turning in bed! If you're awake, please cross your fingers for me - and I'll do the same for you ??

Mollygo Fri 04-Dec-20 23:57:18

Taichinan Fingers crossed and I hope you sleep better tonight. I’m hoping for a peaceful night tonight as well.
It’s been a good idea knowing there’s someone ‘listening’ on this thread, even if it does mean there’s a lot of us no sleeping well. Thanks to FannyC for starting it.
Sleep well all!?

The rain is trying to break in through my Velux windows. How am I supposed to sleep with all this racket? Gentle rain is okay, but this is too noisy.

Elizabeth1 Sat 05-Dec-20 01:30:44

That’s mevwide awake I heard a storm hard at work last night the rain just battered on the window it’s no wonder I’m wide awake with the rumble of thunder too. Or is that the next door neighbours motorbike I hear. No way would I be taking a motorbike out in that weather. Our roads are also very icy from yesterday’s snow.fingers crossed I can fall asleep until at least 6am or even 7 would suit me

jdga Sat 05-Dec-20 03:57:55

Anybody up? I’ve got the kettle on...

JackieBee1 Sat 05-Dec-20 04:15:24

Yes please
Thank you! x

Greenfinch Sat 05-Dec-20 05:03:14

Me too please.Had a couple of hours sleep and have been online searching for presents. It is so frustrating not being able to browse around the shops. Not worth the risk. Hope you all get at least a few hours sleep.

jdga Sat 05-Dec-20 05:03:24

BlueBelle Sat 05-Dec-20 05:21:52

Been awake since 4 am no sign of sleep tried a variety of radio programmes but they are all really boring
No worries, just wish there was a way to flick a switch and turn your brain off for a few hours that would be welcome

FannyCornforth Sat 05-Dec-20 05:23:35

Good morning everyone
Hello phoenix, are you okay? I know that you've really been struggling of late.
I'm in terrible pain. My back seems much better, but now my hip and knee are playing up tchenvy
I can't even muster the strength to put on the kettle.
Ah, just in time for the shipping forecast...
What's everyone got on for today?

Valels Sat 05-Dec-20 05:25:35

Woodmouse have Fenwicks done their Christmas window this year?
All this talk of Northumberland makes me want a day out at Druridge Bay. Only an hour's drive away but probably shouldn't drive that far at the moment.

FannyCornforth Sat 05-Dec-20 05:30:08

Hi BlueBelle I usually listen to Jim cant-remember-surname on 5 /local radio at the weekend.
And then either Darren Adam on LBC or the World Service in the week.
But more recently I've been putting a book on Audible as I can't bear hearing anything about the virus since DH has been ill.
In particular I've been listening to Jonathan Cecil reading Wodehouse.
It's a perfectly brilliant pairing tchsmile

FannyCornforth Sat 05-Dec-20 05:34:20

If Kim is reading - I hope that the bank sorted everything for you

cornergran Sat 05-Dec-20 06:23:31

Hello Night Owls. Sorry to see so many of you with little sleep. I’m doing pretty well. Six hours in a row, good enough. Do you feel any better Phoenix? Pain is foul at any time Fanny, I think somehow worse during the night hours. Hope you can get some respite. Your husbands illness must be putting physical as well as emotional pressure on you. That email is more than believable Kim, we had one a little while ago. The bank will sort everything for you now. Kettle is going on here, also fancy some toast so if anyone is awake you’re welcome to join me.

FannyCornforth Sat 05-Dec-20 06:30:47

Thank you for your kind thoughts once again corner
It's strange how I started using GN just when I needed it most. In fact, just before I knew that I needed it, iyswim.
I wonder how many others have felt like this? It really is so supportive.

Kim19 Sat 05-Dec-20 07:15:47

Didn't realise about your physical difficulties FC. My heart goes out to you. I'm daily aware how grateful I am that my body ticks over reasonably kindly with no major agony so far. It kind of double whammys what a lovely person you are with all that misery going on for you. ?. Other stuff all sorted (I think!!!).

Mollygo Sat 05-Dec-20 07:43:19

Sorry you’re in so much pain FC. It’s bad enough during the day, but at night it’s always worse.
Tea and toast at 7 o’clock was a good start to today. I’m expecting some deliveries and the Royal Mail have this habit of leaving a card between 7.30 and 8 saying ‘Sorry we missed you. You can rearrange delivery in 2 days time.’ So I’m ready for them!
We’ve had the DPD scam several times. Unbelievably at the top of the email it says my email and (if I click to read further) 498 others. Then comes a list of 498 email addresses all beginning with the same initial. I tweeted DPD about it yesterday and they will probably get back to me today.

Greenfinch Sat 05-Dec-20 07:58:11

Fanny I do hope you are managing to get comfortable. Are you needing a hip replacement?
I drifted off at 6 pm only to be woken up by the cat at 7 wanting to go out. He is used to us being up and about at 6.15 on a weekday. We have organised the cat flap so he can get in but not out so that if he goes out late he is able to get back in.
I am going to advertise some things on Freecycle today. Having not has much luck lately with them ,we got rid of a double mattress yesterday. As they had to come indoors we asked them to wear masks and they bought us a bottle of beer. I know you are not supposed to accept anything but he owns a small local brewery and I think it was a form of advertising.
