I hope no-one else has done this or we will get confused- which we all know is very easily done.

Bubbly on the side just in case any one else turns up.

If not, see you tomorrow.

Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite

Oh doodle I have just caught up with the kitchen, so sorry to hear that your DH has been taken into hospital, let’s hope the morphine helps with his pain and he can be returned to your living care.

Galen I have everything crossed that your test is negative.

Will pop in later to catch up ???

Puzzler61 Wed 16-Dec-20 08:40:48

So sorry to hear the latest news Doodle. This may turn out to be a blessing that he is in hospital and the full extent of his injuries can be assessed and treated. Sending fond wishes to you ?
Galen fingers crossed for you, and you will cope whatever. Accept any help offered if you need to.
Good morning to All, especially soop and MacS . We are missing you badly and hope to see you back soon. ?

Susan56 Wed 16-Dec-20 08:49:37

Oh Doodle,I have been absent from the kitchen for a couple of days and have only just read your news.I am so sorry your DH has had an accident and is in hospital. As Puzzler says it may be a blessing he is in hospital to be properly assessed.Thinking of you both and hope he is home with you soon???

Galen, really hoping for a negative test result for you.

Feeling my age, hope you managed to get some sleep in the end.

Will pop back later to see if our dear soop is back among us.

TOYA

Huge but gentle hugs to all Kitcheners and, vicariously to their poorly other halves. The worry and stress of incidents involving ambulances -and the awfulness of the wait- featured so much in my life in Paw’s last few years I don’t know how I coped then and how you are coping now, but I do send you all an enormous bunch of flowers It was what we all signed up for all those years ago but I take my hat off to you all for your selfless love and care for them.
I sense a yawning gap, and a need for serious comfort food in the Kitchen and am offering one(? huh, a tray of ) Nigella’s double chocolate cookies with seasalt. The salt flakes render them completely calorie free as they are now of course savoury smile
Hoping for better news of you all as the day goes on, of Soop rejoining the online world, of a negative result for Galen (one test you want to fail!) of husbands restored to a pain free place by the fire, cuppa in hand, and a peaceful day for you all.

kittylester Wed 16-Dec-20 10:32:44

Crikey, I go missing for a couple of days and look what happens!!

Doidle, I hope you (and we!) get good news of your husband. As others have said, he is probably in the best place.

Galen, I too hope you fail this test - did you revise?

Baggs thank you for the update on the Soops. Please send them our love. I hope soop gets back soon - the kitchen is in disarray without her.

Charleygirl5 Wed 16-Dec-20 10:57:27

Doodle so sorry to hear he has been hospitalised. I was going to suggest he needed a walking frame to help him get to the loo. Hopefully that will be supplied when he is discharged. I sincerely hope he does not have any more fractures- ribs are more than enough. Please do not forget to look after yourself.
TOYA

Doodle Wed 16-Dec-20 11:04:55

DH has broken 6 ribs. No wonder the poor man was in such pain. They are keeping him in for a couple of days to control the pain and make sure he doesn’t get a chest infection because his breathing is affected by the pain.
Thanks for all your kind messages. Yes I think he is in the right place too.
Galen hoping your test is negative. Take care.
Missing soop hope she’s back with us soon.
TOYA ?

Susan56 Wed 16-Dec-20 11:23:24

Oh my goodness Doodle, six ribs?I hope they get the pain relief sorted and he is soon feeling more comfortable. Are you able to visit him?

annsixty Wed 16-Dec-20 11:42:45

While it sounds horrific Doodle a firm diagnosis is better than not knowing what the problem is.
At least he knows why he is in so much pain.
I hope the medication can be sorted to help him get through this.
I also hope you get him home but not until he is completely ready.

Urmstongran Wed 16-Dec-20 11:54:58

Sorry to hear about your husband’s cracked ribs Doodle. 6 of them too!
?
Sounds very painful indeed. I hope he’s home with you soon but meanwhile as others have said, he’s in the best place for now.

So soop is missing owing to problems with her internet service I understand? Bet she’s missing you all very much. I like her posts. No wonder this is such a popular thread.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 16-Dec-20 12:27:12

Oh dear doodle like others have said Mr.D is in safe hands and will be able to get plenty of pain relief, wishing him well and a virtual (((hug))) for you flowers

Puzzler61 Wed 16-Dec-20 12:45:29

Commiserations to Mr D He will hopefully rest easier with regular pain relief and now knowing what is causing him so much pain.
6 broken ribs! No wonder getting to the toilet was such a slow journey Doodle.
I hope you can talk to him regularly and keep each other’s spirits up until he comes home. A hug ? for you.

Urmston your balcony tree is lovely (on GM thread). I’m sure the folk who pass by are very appreciative. We had a balcony once and would put a tree out there. They thrive well outside, they’re happier than being brought indoors.
Are you still without a car? (You lent it to your DD I think?)
Not that we can go anywhere much!

Grandmabatty Wed 16-Dec-20 12:51:58

Doodle, your poor husband. I bruised ribs a couple of years ago and that was painful enough. Six broken must be agony. He's in the best place. I hope you're ok too. It's such a worry. Galen fingers crossed that it comes back negative. Take care of yourself. It's emergency ward ten in the kitchen these days! Chocolate cookies will do very nicely MawBe. Particularly after cleaning up a dgs who decided to throw up all over everything. Sheer greed and stuffing a croissant in then choking. He's sleeping and I'm having lunch. I will pop him in the buggy later and walk to the post office. Take care all.

Puzzler61 Wed 16-Dec-20 13:12:46

Rude of me! MawBe your chocolate cookies are very moreish. Thank you.
And Grandmabatty your little hurricane will run you ragged! A slow stroll to the PO and back will give you a welcome wee break.

Grandmafrench Wed 16-Dec-20 13:59:59

Buggerations abound! What awful news, dear Doodle. I am so very sorry to hear of Mr Doodle's nasty injuries and his distress. Makes me feel quite sick and very sad for you both. I toppled over some garden tools onto our gravel driveway when we lived in Normandy and fell heavily on my side. I have never felt pain like it. I couldn't move and then was helped back into the house - a long way and very slowly. I was physically unable to tell the Ambulance service how I was feeling. When they arrived I was white, sweating, fainting, freezing cold, vomiting, shaking - and they were quite worried. I was taken to A&E where it was found I had broken 2 ribs. What 6 must feel like, I cannot imagine. Poor, poor man. It's probably because he's a good and uncomplaining soul that he didn't make enough fuss to alert everyone immediately to how bad he felt. Hoping that he will be prescribed sufficient pain relief to allow him to come home and recuperate with you - and very soon. I know you'll let us know how things are. Wishing hard for you and sending hugs and well wishes. ??

Urmstongran Wed 16-Dec-20 14:10:09

Thank you for the compliment Puzzler. I’ll post the photo on here if you like - saves anyone who might be interested scooting across to the other thread.

Yes, our Yorkshire Lass still has our car. She is planning to come over on Boxing Day for a ‘Christmas bubble-up’ and might have another car by then. A family member very generously wrote them a cheque. Said ‘it’s what money is for’. I happen to think money makes nice people nicer. Obviously if your nature isn’t already nice, having money won’t make a scrap of difference!

NanaandGrampy Wed 16-Dec-20 14:33:19

Afternoon all,

So sorry to hear your husband is poorly Doodle . Poor chap he does sound in the wars.

Its very much same old same old here.

We are just waiting for the final say on Christmas rules as that will dictate whether or not we see our lot. I am sure loads of people are in the same boat.

The little boys have seen Santa though - so I confirm Christmas WILL be a go!! :-) Its was beautifully done I am told but there were tears when Cooper asked for his very own real life puppy and Santa gave him a husky soft toy :-)

I love that at the age of 6 he truly has an expectation for a puppy in his stocking. Sadly, he will be disappointed because despite Mum and Dad being willing no one wants to pay triple the price for a puppy.

Very true Urmstongran - there are still nice people out there !!

Charleygirl5 Wed 16-Dec-20 14:46:02

N&G* do you have the equivalent of Battersea Dogs Home near you? That may be an answer.

My only hope is if that happens Sam's nose will not be put out of joint.

Urmston I was green with envy today when I read on the other thread your flat is above shops- that would be sheer bliss for me although Tara could not tolerate a flat or being in town.

Doodle he really is in the best place- he does not do things by halves but at least there is no surgical intervention needed- it could have been worse as I suspect he is marginally over the age of 29.

The most important thing for him to do and which will hurt is deep breathing to prevent a chest infection.

Urmstongran Wed 16-Dec-20 16:17:24

I feel I did my homework well Charleygirl in choosing a place very close by to all amenities for hopefully our golden years. Pets are not allowed in the development so it wouldn’t suit some folk. For us though, it’s perfect. Just lock up and go to t’other small place in a residential part of Spain. Again there, everything we need on the doorstep!

Charleygirl5 Wed 16-Dec-20 16:28:34

Urmston I agree, you have worked it out well for both properties. What is the point living somewhere where there are 3 buses a week? Okay when you can drive but there comes a time when we have to give up.

Be careful if you have a spare bedroom- you may get a lodger.

I am actually pleased to hear animals are not allowed-Tara loves her outdoor space and I would not move voluntarily while she is still alive..

Nannytopsy Wed 16-Dec-20 16:34:08

Doodle how awful for DH. Send him one of Maw’s delicious cookies to cheer him up. ?
I went to the dentist this morning and was in the chair for 90 minutes! It was a bigger job than anticipated and I think we both needed a rest afterwards! I came home feeling like a wet dishrag.
Hope soop is back soon and Galen fails her test.
Please everyone keep away from the stairs - including the DHs.

GrannySomerset Wed 16-Dec-20 16:42:31

My sympathy to Mr Doodle. I cracked a couple of ribs in a similar fall and it was agony. I wasn’t x-rayed though and walked around for several weeks with a fractured vertebra - no wonder the pain didn’t diminish. At least you know the (considerable) extent of the injury and I do hope the pain killers do their job. What a worry.

Poor Soop - not the time of year to have technical troubles. Do hope the problem is resolved soon.

cornergran Wed 16-Dec-20 16:43:49

No wonder your husband hurt Doodle, hope he can be comfortable soon and be back with you.

That’s a cheerful tree Urmston, beautiful from inside and out.

Those boys are priceless n&g, Santa tried his best for sure. We’re also wondering if tentative plans should change. The stuff of headaches here.

Chocolate cookies are just what I needed maw, I’ll take custody of one (or three) and be off,

Take care everyone, TOYA.

Baggs Wed 16-Dec-20 17:31:48

Sweet boys, n&g!

galen, stay well! And I hope you can get any help at home that you need.

Best wishes to MrDoodle. SIX broken ribs will be painful indeed. MrB broke one rib when skiing (cross country) once and I wasn't allowed to make him laugh for weeks! In the same fall he bent one of his ski poles with his head! His head was fine—made of hard stuff obviously!

annodomini Wed 16-Dec-20 17:38:36

Six broken ribs - poor Mr Doodle. Last year I did the same thing - fell back against a concrete step but only cracked a rib and that was quite painful enough. And the pain didn't go away in a hurry. He will need continued pain relief and plenty of TLC when they discharge him. Galen, you're very wise to take the test which I hope will turn out to be negative. Do keep us ;posted.
