Who’s got my lemon squeezer?

Right own up who’s got it? ?

So this glass lemon squeezer was my Mums and she’s been gone over 30yrs and it brings back so many memories of her in the kitchen. I don’t use it often but always for the lemon and oranges I squeeze when making my Christmas cake, so when I went to get it out it’s not in its usual place in the cupboard alongside Mums sugar shaker. I made do without it as I wanted to get the cake in the oven.
This morning I’ve been through every cupboard and it’s gone, I mean where else would it be?

So I deduce one of you lots been in here, borrowed it and not put it back ?

I've lost a whole of important papers relating to my benefits - maybe all these things have gone somewhere safe for them? They might all return when we've had the vaccines and things are looking a bit more hopeful - but don't hold your breath.

Or it fell out of the cupboard and the bits have walked to the bin.

My glass lemon squeezer belonged to my Gran, then my Mum and now me. Dh put it in.the dishwasher and now there's a crack in it. It only needed a rinse.?

You need to ask St Anthony for help. He’s a busy chap with lots of saintly matters to oversee but he usually spares a moment to help out.

I have just bought a new pair of pinking shears, Wheniwasyourage, so the old ones are bound to resurface any day now.

When OH retired I was undergoing treatment so he was in charge. If he doesn’t use a piece of kitchen equipment he works on the out of sight, out of mind principle. I find things in the sideboard, the tea towel drawer, cupboard part of a desk, even the airing cupboard. I suppose it breaks up the tedium of the day. A bit like a senior version of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

I can add a left wrist splint and sellotape plus dispenser to the list of missing items ?

Witzend Wed 23-Dec-20 09:50:02

@fluttERBY123, sounds as if your dh has the same compulsion as mine - i.e. to cram as much as possible into the dishwasher, when I’ve told him about 2764 times that e.g. the potato peeler and whatever else, only need a quick rinse under the tap.

Not that I’m actually complaining, since he does routinely clear up the kitchen, load the DW and usually even put it all away afterwards.

Maybe there's a lemon squeezer collector about...mine's gone as well..! It's not half as fancy as yours - it's a sturdy white plastic job - but it's served me well for over thirty years, and was definitely there when I made a lemon drizzle cake about a month ago...
Now? Nowhere to be seen..!! shock

I threw out my own lemon squeezer deliberately. Who wants all that faff when you can buy Jif?

Funnygran Wed 23-Dec-20 10:06:55

We had a back scratcher shaped like a hand! My son loved it and used it every time he came to visit. And then it disappeared and is nowhere to be found. He didn’t take it and it’s a joke now that if anything disappears you’ll find it with the back scratcher. Not the sort of thing that would be thrown away by accident as it had a long handle. It’s so weird how things just disappear.

Perhaps it’s with my lottery ticket from a few weeks ago that I put in a ‘safe place’ it was lucky dips x 2, so I don’t know the numbers, but still....

I'm the same as Georgesgran I think I'm losing my marbles too. I find I'm doing the strangest things. I haven't lost anything lately but the other day my bathroom radiator wouldn't beat up, we tried bleeding it but to no avail. I said to my hubby I'm going to check the valves and it turns out one of them wasn't open. We had not done it I think someone had sneaked in and turned it off. Probably the same person who took the lemon squeezed and knitting pattern. Haha

Davida1968 Wed 23-Dec-20 10:17:57

Tanith, this is a method which has worked for me. You squeeze the lemons another way (maybe with a fork?) and while doing this in the kitchen, say out aloud what a good job the fork is doing. The original squeezer may then turn up, in a fit of pique...

Aepgirl Wed 23-Dec-20 10:24:17

It’s probably having a party with my favourite butter knife that went missing a couple of months ago.

olliebeak Wed 23-Dec-20 10:32:06

Chewbacca

Could it be with my knitting pattern? I've completed the back, one sleeve and half of the other sleeve of a sweater but can't find the wretched knitting pattern anywhere. The bins were emptied on Monday and I've a sinking feeling they took it away with them.

Chewbacca - there's been a suggestion that one, or other, of us might just have a copy of the knitting pattern that you're searching for.

Can you give us any details to help identify it? Make? Description of what you're knitting? Dare I ask - pattern number?

It's Elvie to blame! Has moved it to distract you from all the virus news and now we too are all thinking about the whereabouts of your lemon squeezer instead of Covid. You will find the lemon squeezer when you are not looking for it.

Calendargirl Wed 23-Dec-20 10:33:34

Anyone who wants a glass lemon squeezer, often charity shops have them for sale.

My DH was given a road atlas book for his 21st, I was sure it was in a box in the loft, but no. He says I must have chucked it out, but I wouldn’t without his say so.

Nearly 50 years old, so utterly useless for nowadays, but it had the hand written route for our honeymoon journey in it, so was keeping it for sentimental reasons....

tanith Wed 23-Dec-20 10:39:19

No it’s not turned up as yet, and I’ll try that Davidal1968 ?

That’s weird you should talk about back scratchers Funnygran DH had two of those long handled ones one in the bedroom and one downstairs, well the downstairs one was missing after he died and 18 mths later I happened to try dusting down the back of radiators (as you do) and there it was hanging on the back of the radiator out of sight, I’ve left it there ever since.

coast35 Wed 23-Dec-20 10:44:57

So we’ve lost the bedroom clock our Grandson chose for his Mummy and Daddy. We had to go buy another one yesterday. I’m expecting it to turn up rather nonchalantly on Boxing Day as if it had never been lost!

BigBertha1 Wed 23-Dec-20 11:11:21

tanith it might be same person who had mine for four months and then put it back in the cupboard where it lives without explanation.

Alioop Wed 23-Dec-20 11:17:41

Check the fridge. If I lose keys, purse etc they always seem to be in the fridge!

Luckygirl Wed 23-Dec-20 11:18:23

Probably turn up in the same place as my loaf tin - just vanished completely!

rowyn Wed 23-Dec-20 11:26:41

It might be in the back of my dishwasher. Often miss items when emptying. Will have a look.

netflixfan Wed 23-Dec-20 11:30:41

I love Gransnet! Such fun!

Purplepoppies Wed 23-Dec-20 11:30:49

I haven't lost a lemon juicer but I FOUND one I didn't know I owned and have no clue where it came from! It was in its original box at the back of the top shelf of a cupboard (I rarely look up there!) This thing needs batteries, very posh ?
I have a lemon juicer, I bought it the last time I was abroad because I DIDN'T HAVE ONE ?

HiPpyChick57 Wed 23-Dec-20 11:33:40

Lost my work fob six months ago. I can remember wearing it around my neck at home while sitting on the settee while chatting to my DD about the fobs the teachers wear in her school.
That is my last memory of it.
Every now and again I get a bit of inspiration of where it could be...down the back of the settee, pockets, bags, the dumping place in my room, but no joy as yet.
I’ve yet to confess to the headteacher that I’ve lost it. Yes I know I’m lily livered but my excuse is that as soon as I come clean and tell “The Dragon” I can’t find it, then it’s obviously going to appear as if by magic!
I can’t keep using the excuse that I’ve lent it to so and so in year six!
