The changing face of Gransnet?

I think what most people want is a clearly moderated not an un-moderated site, with clear boundaries and rules and no life-time bans. Which seems fairly reasonable to me. But I'm no judge. I still don't understand what gets a thread pulled, what gets something deleted or how you get a ban or a warning. I thought I was pretty controversial because I've had posts and threads deleted but no one's given me a warning yet (should I feel a bit undervalued???)

Some have said we should be trusted to sort things out ourselves. Sorry but that is just an impossible ask.

biba I'm astounded and annoyed at your reply to Lisagran. Precisely what has she said that was very low? You see, it's comments and accusations like that that are making so many posters angry and upset that their posts are being deliberately misunderstood and reported. There was NOTHING that Lisagran, or anyone else who has thus far posted on this thread that is "low", so please, either apologise or explain what you meant by that.

I’ve frequently disagreed with you and said so but I’ve never once thought you were in any way malicious.
This is beyond ridiculous.
I’m prepared to accept that a young inexperienced moderator might on occasion make an inappropriate deletion.
But putting people on final warnings or banning them must surely only be done after some discussion with whoever is in charge?

The country is massively divided at the moment- and I imagine it is normal for this to be reflected here on GN- certainly on some threads.

We are not divided on this thread. we all know who/what we are talking about and it's got sod all to do with the country.

Please allow me to put something else into the mix.

Why are we all allowed to question Mick's absence on the GM thread, without sanctions or posts being deleted?
The only reason I can think of is, that there would be very little posts left. Double standards or not?

The difference as far as I can see is that there are no disputes or longstanding quarrels on the GM thread which would prompt someone with their own agenda to report these posts.

Could posts not be 'referred for consideration' as a first step, not just deleted at a stroke (which what appears to happen)?

Many of us want the lady with the thin dog back
Many of us want the threat lifted over the heads of charleygirl and EV.

When I wrote to you GNHQ I told you that if posters found out a certain person had been banned they would be up in arms about it. This thread proves what I said is true. Poster are finding out that a good friend, a kind and generous person has been banned and they are not happy about it.

Please read this thread, all of if and if you have any regard for the people who make up Gransnet (us) realise that we don’t want lifetime bans for people. We don’t want others to be threatened.

Please GNHQ have the grace to admit you got it wrong in judging ‘the spirit of GN’ and let us, the users, have a say on how you moderate our site. Thank you.

I’d like to second this. Surely a .lifetime ban should only be issued for something criminal ?
Surely it would be enough to contact the “offender” and ask them to refrain from certain comments ?

I agree, nanna8 there seems to be some over-moderation on the site now and it's interesting that you have said that about another site you were on.

If the moderators have any sense, they will take note of this thread, will not delete it and will bring it to the attention of whoever is in overall charge so that common sense can be returned.

You are entitled to your opinion biba but be careful. Sadly, we have posters who are itching to press the report button whenever their opinion is disagreed with and this is the childish behaviour we need to put an end to.

Galaxy, in the good old days, before everyone got so touchy, we didn't have threads or posts deleted we just moved on.

I admit there were far fewer of us but I dont think members reported on the alarmingly regular basis that they seem to now.

biba you're perfectly aware that one of the tenets of GN is that personal spats, discussions and posts are not dragged across from one thread to another and that's exactly what you've confirmed you've done here today.

So racist posts should stay up for example.

I have never done anything criminal either on GN or in RL and I have only ever received one parking ticket.
