"I thought it might be fun to draw up a list of terrible dinner party guests" says Rupert Hawksley in the Indy recently.

Who would you invite to a sit-down dinner party and why?

timetogo2016 Thu 11-Mar-21 10:41:48

No-one,i can`t stand dinner partys,sorry.

Calendargirl Thu 11-Mar-21 11:10:06

Well, Meghan and Piers Morgan would have a lot to chat about if they were seated next to each other.

(Apologies for bringing them in to yet another thread, but couldn’t resist).

That's a good one, Calendargirl grin

Don’t worry if you didn’t many others would !

If I dared, I'd invite Germain Greer, Bernard Manning, Roy 'Chubby' Brown, Nicki Chapman and Jim Davidson. Would Nicki be able to keep them in line with niceness?

Would they be too argumentative? I must admit I prefer diplomacy. Light the blue touch paper and step back.

I attended a dinner party from hell! A recent widow spoke at length about medieval embroidery. The guy I was sat next to kept whispering in my ear while his wife across the table looked daggers at me. During coffee a rather loud man was telling OH all about his recent trip to Cairo. He didn’t seem interested in the fact that OH was currently living and working there! A make believe Dinner Party from hell for me would include Nigel Farage, India Knight, Prince Andrew, Piers Morgan and Ann Robinson.

Prince Andrew, an FBI interrogator, Karen Ingala Smith and Michelle Obama.

Oldwoman70 Thu 11-Mar-21 12:53:32

I would invite: Russell Brand, Jeremy Clarkson, Piers Morgan, Jeremy Kyle, Jeremy Vine, Katie Hopkins and all the Kardashians,

Would it be evil for me to ask if I could settle them down and then set fire to the building wink

Blossoming Thu 11-Mar-21 12:56:01

oldwoman70 that’s why I chose my guests, the hell will not be mine!

jacqrose Thu 11-Mar-21 13:04:50

Jacob Rees Mogg, Louise Minchin from BBC Breakfast, Trump and some friends of mine when we get on to politics. Pure hell!

Lucca Thu 11-Mar-21 13:10:32

Oh of course I forgot JRM. And finally Silvio Berlusconi

LauraNorder Thu 11-Mar-21 13:17:40

All the people of renown I most dislike such as Piers Morgan, Alistair Campbell, Katie Hopkins, Steve Coogan, Russell Brand would, in fact, make for an interesting dinner party.
My idea of the dinner party from hell would be full of quiet types with nothing to say or people with a passion for one subject that no one else is interested in or, worse still, a bunch of one track minded folk who pat each other on the back, close down contrary opinions with rudeness and monopolise the political threads.

Eamonn Holmes and his smug wife.
Tony Blair and his smug wife.
Jeremy Corbyn and Diane Abbot.
The woman from the one show with a voice that could cut glass.

EkwaNimitee Thu 11-Mar-21 13:45:21

LauraNorder has it right!
I swore when I retired that I would give up doing things I hated, and giving dinner parties was one of them. All that planning, shopping, cooking and coping with food fads made me a nervous wreck. I’d rather take everyone out to a good restaurant. That could be interesting with some of those quoted above....all vying to impress other tables.

Margaret Thatcher, Donald Trump, Boris Johnson, Dominic Cummings, Mrs Brown (of Mrs. Brown's boys fame), Piers Morgan, Laurence Fox, Simon Cowell, Kellyanne Conway, any Kardashian

Mine would have to be Greg Wallace, Monty Don, Chris Packham, Dianne Abbot, Ricky Gervaise, Mary Berry, Greta Thunberg, and Allan Carr (I desperately want to shove a sock in his chatty mouth!).

Lisagran Thu 11-Mar-21 17:31:39

Oh, Greyduster, Monty Don?!

Greyduster Thu 11-Mar-21 17:48:45

Sorry! Absolutely Monty Don!

Calendargirl Thu 11-Mar-21 17:51:03

Oh yes!

EllanVannin Thu 11-Mar-21 18:06:56

Majority of the wannabees.
I can count on one hand those who I have time for.

Lisagran Thu 11-Mar-21 18:07:31

Sorry to persue it, Greyduster, but what is it about Monty Don?

Dottydots Thu 11-Mar-21 18:17:06

Monty Don is adorable. I'd have a meal with him any time!
