My daughter’s partner cannot stand the word ‘moist’. If you use it to describe a cake, for instance, it would quite put him off!
Do you have a word you hate, and is there a proper reason for your feelings?

Slippy
Woke
Find your happy.
Passed away.
Bog for lavatory.

Billybob4491 Fri 12-Mar-21 08:24:22

Bog
Little man
Fur baby
Yummy (no human being over the age of 10 years old should use this word ever.)

Spinnaker

Detest the words masticate and pregnant.

The sentence that starts with "the truth of the matter is..." really does make me tense up. You always know it'll be anything but the truth !

Pregnant ??? What else would you say ?! “in an interesting condition”. “Up the duff” “expecting”

Girlies
'C word
With due respect - its not going to be

Dilly the gardener. So glad to see another “all the trimmings” mentioned !

Lucca Fri 12-Mar-21 09:13:48

Oh I forgot
“I for one...”

vampirequeen Fri 12-Mar-21 09:26:18

I like euphemisms. I use them all the time so I'd drive some of you round the twist grin

I hate the c word and the n word. I can't even spell them out unless I'm really pushed. If I do I suddenly become Les Dawson's Ada and find myself mouthing the letters grin

There are two place names near here that drive me insane because the local dialect mispronounces both of them. Anlaby....so easy to say....becomes Anulby and Withernsea...again simple to say...becomes Witherensea. I find it so hard not to correct people when they say it grin

Any management speak, or swear words - I had a sheltered upbringing!

'With respect....' because I won't like what's coming next

Another hater of toilet, but DCs and DGC all use it, so have to accept it.

Any reference to body parts that aren't the right anatomical ones, unless used by DGC.

?? All the above!

My bad ??? makes me cringe.....

Granny23 Fri 12-Mar-21 09:52:49

The H word that means a huge loss of blood, I cannot bear to even write it in full. When my maiden Aunt came to see me the day after I lost a baby, her first words to me were "Are you still H......ing" and I totally lost it, screaming at her to get out, much to the astonishment of DH who was bringing her a cup of tea!

Aveline Fri 12-Mar-21 10:01:44

I hate 'the get go' instead of from the start.

JdotJ Fri 12-Mar-21 10:33:59

Chrimbo ?

Pap67 Fri 12-Mar-21 10:34:26

Discharge.... ?

HillyP Fri 12-Mar-21 10:35:13

Poo, wee and tummy used by anyone over the age of six. Apparently it's now official NHS language.

TrendyNannie6 Fri 12-Mar-21 10:35:29

Oh and I don’t like get go either, or guys when someone is addressing a group, or lush or yummy, I think I better stop now the list goes on

LMW1 Fri 12-Mar-21 10:36:46

Authentic and Narrative
Both are so over used these days angry

Pippa22 Fri 12-Mar-21 10:36:56

MissAdventure

Tinkle.

Fur baby when talking about a pet sounds really twee. Train station , when did we stop going to the railway station ? Free when talking of three and hatch instead of a itch.

Shortlegs Fri 12-Mar-21 10:37:08

Gobsmacked, Passed (died), Missus (as in 'my missus').

grannybuy Fri 12-Mar-21 10:38:46

Hate Mom - also panties, hubby, boobs. I'm another who doesn't use ' pass and passing ' when discussing death.

NanaPlenty Fri 12-Mar-21 10:39:51

Gonads - I believe it’s a proper term but I just don’t like it for some reason !

songstress60 Fri 12-Mar-21 10:40:32

Doable. The word is achievable, and the phrase "heads up". A great many modern words and phrases annoy me actually

Grandmabeach Fri 12-Mar-21 10:43:51

Informal speech such as gonna for going to.
