Words that make you shudder

Along with ‘passed’, don’t like ‘lost’ used when someone has died.
My sister insisted on having it put on the service sheet for mum’s funeral service- ‘When we lost dad....’
I wanted ‘When dad died...’ but gave in as she was very upset, but wish I had insisted. Made it sound as though he had disappeared.

Also on the subject of death, don’t like ‘casket’.
It’s a coffin.

Many of the above, plus fave, absolutely, you know, and tuh (instead of to).
I’m of the pedant tendency when it comes to grammar and use of the English language. You will often hear me growling at the radio.

Have been cringing reading a lot of these. Years ago a boss used to always say "let's touch base" - eek! I blame the Americans for a lot of these sayings!

I don't like the expression ' they welcomed a son ' when a baby was born ! Usually in glossy news type things .

I really don't understand the word Woke as in wokeful, wokeness, wokery etc.

Fart, I just can’t use it. It sounds so crude, but even my young grandchildren use it and my daughter is a teacher. Odd as I’m not usually prudish, and while I detest swearing in ordinary conversation, I can swear with the best if it’s appropriate, I just can’t say that!

I agree with nearly everything already said but you have missed out the SL words of which there are many.

The pound in your pocket; prices in the High Street; am & pm (rather than24 hr clock) jabs in arms; all sound like they are addressing children rather than adults

Most of the above, together with pamper, and banter. They make me cringe!

Catarrh is another, yuk.! A friend of mine would say "I'm going for a piddle". For a start I don't need to know and what age are you! Another calls me Hun all the time, I cannot remember the last time she actually used my Christian name.

And something I saw earlier - ‘bestie’ as in best friend. Unless you’re about 6 of course.

Absolutely agree with most of these but also referring to people who have not knowingly been horrible human being as 'legends'.

‘Dumb’ as in stupid, from people who aren’t American.

"like" when used constantly and inappropriately. "Yous" instead of "you" - my daughter in law says "yous" constantly. I can feel myself flinching when she says it. Fart - can barely even type it! Belly, toilet, serviette, kiddies, bum, passed instead of died. Oh dear, there seems to be rather a long list!
