Unbearable noises!

Sniffing.
Big dogs ‘woofing’, small dogs ‘yapping’.
The squawky woman on the One Show.
Canned laughter on so-called comedy shows.
Boy racers who rev their engines constantly.

Eating is the worst. Close second for me is whispering. There's something that really bugs me about it, but I can never put my finger on it.

My near neighbour’s bloody wind chimes. Bad enough during daylight hours, worse at bedtime with a bedroom window open. Once that chime enters my head as I try to fall asleep, I become unreasonable!!??

A nearby neighbour whose son has recently got a very noisy car which sounds like a plane taking off in the morning

Barking dogs, especially the yappy ones. I had a neighbour who left their yappy dog barking for 3 hours in their garden.

Also the final spin on a washing machine, it seems to go on just that bit too long.

I now understand the dog thing! I've always loved dogs, and barking never really bothers me (unless the dog sounds distressed) but our neighbours have just spent £2,000 (as they proudly told me, so I suppose that must be relevant) on two sausage dogs. They leave them in the conservatory whilst they are both out at work full time, and the dogs bark ALL. DAY. LONG. It is ceaseless.

Then the owners come home and let them out into the garden, where they spend about an hour barking at every blade of grass - and each other.

I can tolerate deep barking, but the yapping is really getting on my nerves.

Yes, barking dogs left behind when neighbours go out. It drives me crazy.

Neighbours music as soon as the sun comes out, windows open Capitol Radio on as loud as possible, awful music, so many jingles - he's over 80.

I can’t bear metallic noises, like saucepan lids falling.
After a year spent mostly alone I’d dearly love a meeting of friends and family sniffing, snoring, playing loud music, with yapping dogs, screaming kids and low-flying aircraft overhead. Just no saucepan lids, please.

Patsy70, I am completely with you with the tapping, pen clicking, my husband is the same. He also does a kind of almost inaudible humming/singing thing which is infuriating.
He is lovely apart from his noises!

If I'm working, any background noise disturbs me.

I am also very sensitive to noise most of the time. TV that is too loud drives me nuts. Can be a problem because my bloke is a bit deaf and has the tv on loud. I also like the class of children I am teaching to keep their noise lower than average.

I love silence. It's the only time I feel able to be 100% focused on whatever I am doing.

Im with you Patsy 70 my other half taps and claim cks things has a huge sneeze and an irritating nervous cough.

Clicks things!

The sound of someone cleaning their teeth. Toothpaste ads on TV induce real stress in me and must be muted.

It used to be chalk squeaking on a blackboard but now we have whiteboards that has gone. I don’t like the sound of people munching their food, either and also annoying clicks some people make with their mouths. The bloke next door who bangs metal on metal when he is shaping the knives he is making drives me nuts. He thinks he is a blacksmith,very irritating.

Where do I start? The sound of a football bouncing continually against a wall drives me to distraction. Also sniffing,and constant throat clearing,or worse still,what my mum used to call 'snortling',that horrible noise that some people make in their throat. I usually find the worst offenders in this respect are women!
And people who keep tapping,whether it's a teaspoon or their fingers,drives me nuts. As for people who have to sneeze at 100 decibels,I could cheerfully throttle them.

Definitely the sniffing one and someone blowing their nose, yuck! Also DH always decides to eat a packet of crisps and rattle the bloody crisp packet just as we settle down to watch a TV programme; drives me insane.

Another thing my husband does it to poke at his cornflakes noisily with his spoon in between each mouthful. Just why?!

I agree about the sniffing - hate it.
Scrunching sweet wrappers instead of putting them in the bin, clicking nails, noisy eating, revving motorbikes, constantly barking dogs, chalk squeaking on a blackboard, constant threat clearing. Oh dear, I sound very intolerant, don't I?

I am worried Patsy70 I think we are with the same man! The pen clicking is the worst, usually while he is on the phone, its not like he is making notes. He does it just chatting to friends/family etc drives me mad.
I have been known to get up and take it out of his hand. lol

I cannot stand the sound made by the crowd at a football match, all the shouting and chanting drives me up the wall! I was so pleased when they said that, due to Covid, football matches would be played behind closed doors as I quite enjoy watching the game. Then what do they do? Play recordings of crowd noise! Agh! Back to the earplugs!

HillyN I am with you on the sound of the football crowd. I have to turn it off immediately! Not a problem as I don't like football.
This thread is fascinating. I agree on the eating, snorting, phlegm sounds, they are all horrible.
Really loud motorbikes and children screaming loudly drive me crazy too. There is a dog who walks past my house sometimes with the most unbelievable loud, ear-splitting squeal of a bark I've ever heard! How anyone could live with that I have no idea.

Women's curling on the TV.

My DH loves all sports and often keeps the TV on the sports channel all day while he putters about. I can handle just about all of them but that.

Also high pitched buzzing noises. Sometimes others can't hear them, but I can. Florescent lights sometimes make the sound, or computer fans.

The sound of a dinner fork touching a person’s teeth make’s me instantly want to up chuck.

In our house it's any noise that can't be identified -
Middle of the night, bolt upright in bed "Whazzat? Can you hear that? Did you lock the back door?"
Or the time the whole house shook and reverberated to an ominous pounding noise "I knew it. I knew it. That plumber has completely cock*d up the pipes". (Turned out to be a pile driver on a building site.)
