Miscast Actors/Actresses.

On the ‘Grace’ threads, many of you said that John Simm was not how you pictured the hero after reading the books.

I always felt Leslie Howard was totally wrong to play Ashley Wilkes in ‘Gone With The Wind’. Scarlett O’Hara would never have fancied him, but he was the studio’s choice.

Any other thoughts on miscasting, either films or tv?

Richard Gere in Indecent Proposal.

I mean, come on, like he’d have to pay the woman a million pounds to sleep with him.

It should have been someone sleazy and repulsive.

Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Nothing like how he is described by the author

Peasblossom Sun 21-Mar-21 12:42:30

Allof the cast in the Inspector Lynsey mysteries.

Tamzin Outhwaite in anything.

Peasblossom Sun 21-Mar-21 12:43:09

Oh yes definitely Jack Reacher. Wasn’t he six foot four in the books?

Richard chamberlain as Ralph de Bricassart in the Thorn Birds.....he should have been dark haired and dark eyed and sexy ......

Calendargirl Sun 21-Mar-21 12:44:41

Oh, and Geraldine McEwan as Miss Marple.

Aargh!

Lucca Sun 21-Mar-21 12:45:26

Haven’t read the books ...if there are any...but Brenda blethyn as Vera....her Geordie accent is awful so I never watched more than one episode.

Oh I do agree ! In fact anybody but the wonderful Joan Hickson.

Wasn’t it Robert Redford?

I agree about Richard Gere though.

Peasblossom Sun 21-Mar-21 12:52:01

Pretty certain it was Richard Gere. I’ll look it up.

Ingrid Bergman as Gladys Aylward: 'Inn of the Sixth Happiness';
Meryl Streep as Donna(?) in 'Mamma Mia';
Lily James in most things recently;
Andie Mc Dowell in 'Four Weddings and a Funeral;

All of them good actresses, just wrong roles.

Uhtred in Bernard Cornwell’s Last kingdom series! In the books he towered over other men and his great height intimidated his foe. In the series he’s about the same height as the other characters.

I am used to it now and treat the books and tv series as two separate entities.

I agree Lucca. I watched one episode of Vera once. It made me cringe.

Peasblossom Sun 21-Mar-21 12:54:28

Oh no, it was Robert Redford, you’re right.

Oh well, someone pretty fanciable, anyway.

(though according to another thread we mustn’t say that any more?)

Peasblossom Sun 21-Mar-21 12:56:20

Vigo Mortensen as Aragorn in Lord of the Rings.

Far too weedy.

Calendargirl Sun 21-Mar-21 12:57:20

Weedy ?!!!

Peasblossom Sun 21-Mar-21 13:10:54

Yes sorry. Too short. Not grim and determined.

Peasblossom Sun 21-Mar-21 13:11:47

Sean Bean should have had that role and Vigo as Borodin.

Peasblossom I remember thinking that at the time, as RR was quite dishy! wink

Love John Simm in everything.
Love Vera. Brenda Blethyn, for me, is excellent as her.Looking forward to series 11 next year.

Back to the thread: Andie McDowell in 'Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Andrea Lowe as DS Annie Cabbot in the DCI Banks series.
Nothing wrong with her acting, she just didn't fit the rôle.

As soon as I read the thread title I thought of this most terrible miscasting!

After all these decades grin

Gladys Aylward came to visit our chapel. Some of us were a bit confused as we’d seen the film. ?
