Hello Everyone
Mine was 'Once Upon a Time' by Simple Minds (an LP).

It was 1985 and I was 13, so quite old really. It was the Summer holidays.
It cost £4.50 from whichever shop was WHSmith before it became WHSmith in Stourbridge.

I've no idea why I chose it. I think that I might have thought it was cool.
I was quite young for my age then. It must have been a bit of a quiet period for my mom and dad, just before I became a bit of a parental nightmare! ?

What was your first record?

Walk right back by the Everly Brothers, it has the very sad Ebony Eyes on the B side. About 1962 I think.

Back Home - 1970 England football squad! I was 10!

The first single I bought was Hold Me by P J Proby. I spent every Saturday morning listening to it in my local record shop which had those listening booths, until I had saved enough money to buy it It was 4/6d I think I was 13
The first LP I bought was Tamla Motown Greatest Hits. I still have it, and also have the CD version too.

Peter and Gordon, A World Without Love. It was 1964, and I bought it with Christmas present money .. if I remember rightly it cost six shillings and eightpence.

I had a second hand Dansette record player for Christmas 1973 when I was about 12? My first single was 'Merry Christmas Everyone' by Slade.
My first album was 'Crazy Horses' by The Osmonds.

Loving hearing all the memories.

I was bought a record player for Christmas 1962 - a extra-special present for passing my 11+.

I went to the local market where they sold 'ex-juke box records' at 5/- each - instead of the usual price of 6/8 each.

Travellin' Light by Cliff Richard
Thin Chow Min by Des O'Connor (a parody on Big Bad John)
Johnny Remember Me by John Leyton
Donald Where's Your Troosers by Andy Stewart

Cast your fate to the wind by Sounds Orchestral, an unusual choice for a little girl.

I was very square (but later screamed at the Beatles and had the 'Beatles v Stones' discussions, so must have 'moderned up'!)

Pathetique, Symphony No. 6 by Tchaikovsky.

I used to have to spend Saturdays with cousins a few miles away (a long story) and sometimes we would sneak off to a record shop (with booths etc.).

My husband of many many years and then not known to me also spent hours there on Saturdays so it is entirely possible that we saw each other years before we met.

We both still like both classical and modern music.

Krtispii, I also remember the sheer delight of receiving a red and cream Dansette record player as a birthday present. I was sooo happy that day and it was probably my favourite gift, ever..

I am ashamed to confess my first record was 'Splish, Splash' by Charlie Drake.

Yammy

"I've got you babe", by Sonny and Chere. It was a single and I think it cost 10/6p old money.

That was my daughters first full sentence at age two! She’s now 57.
My first record was Elvis is Back. His first LP after returning from the army. After that he was ruined by the Colonal with rubbish films, rubbish songs and finally rubbish Vegas.

The Woolworths version of The ballad of Davy Crockett. I can recall a lot of the words...

Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel. Which is why I cringe every time they show residents in Care Homes having to listen to Vera Lynn and the like. The image of the music tastes of the older, and even 'much' older generation needs a bit of an update !

I always think the same. Those care home residents are around my age and we are Rock n rollers!

Babs758 Thu 08-Apr-21 14:01:22

"Sugar Sugar" by the Archies and Beethoven's 5th Symphony on Decca Records.. Loved both and have had an eclectic taste in music ever since!

Patticake123 Thu 08-Apr-21 14:05:04

Herman’s Hermits ‘I’m into something good’. I think my brothers smashed it because I would play it non stop on repeat on our ancient radiogram! Happy days.

Shirls52000 Thu 08-Apr-21 14:08:13

Single... Blackberry Way, The Move
Album.... Fog on the Tyne, Lindisfarne

Sophrosyne Thu 08-Apr-21 14:08:56

Cannot recall ever buying a single but the first album I bought was the Isley Brothers album This Old Heart of Mine (was probably about 14 years old) and the second was Pink Floyd's Meddle. Still love and listen to both (now on iTunes).

annifrance Thu 08-Apr-21 14:11:07

It's Now or Never, Elvis in about 1959. Still love it.

At my friend's husband's memorial she said the first record they bought together was the Young Ones and at the time they weren't sure if it was appropriate. It was played and when it got to the line 'and darling one day we'll teach the young ones of our own' - well that finished off the whole congregation. They were a very happy couple with 3 wonderful daughters and a long marriage.

NannyKasey Thu 08-Apr-21 14:16:00

Bye Bye Baby - Bay City Rollers, I was 10.

Sophrosyne Thu 08-Apr-21 14:23:05

Rats, it wasn't Meddle, it was Dark Side of the Moon

MissAdventure Thu 08-Apr-21 14:24:28

Virginia Plain by Roxy Music. smile
I still love it, and I love the footage on old 'Top of the pops'.
