Hello Everyone
Mine was 'Once Upon a Time' by Simple Minds (an LP).

It was 1985 and I was 13, so quite old really. It was the Summer holidays.
It cost £4.50 from whichever shop was WHSmith before it became WHSmith in Stourbridge.

I've no idea why I chose it. I think that I might have thought it was cool.
I was quite young for my age then. It must have been a bit of a quiet period for my mom and dad, just before I became a bit of a parental nightmare! ?

What was your first record?

I bought A Little too much by Ricky Nelson, in 1959. I'm glad to say my musical taste became a bit better very quickly. Everything at that time was American. Reading some of these posts makes me feel very old!!

Mine was Elizabethan Serenade by Ron Goodwin and Orchestra (I think), bought in 1957, chosen for me by my Father, I was 10. My Brother had Diana by Paul Anka at same time. He was 7 and obviously had more modern taste even at that age!

I bought two - "I believe" by the Bachelors and "A world without love" by Peter and Gordon. Much thought went into spending any of my precious pocket money.

Gosh you're all a lot younger than me! I think my first was Cliff Richard's Living Doll. Who else remembers his film Expresso Bongo? It was an X film (wouldn't be nowadays!) but we were 16, my friend and I, so we tottered along the Kings Road in our best clothes to the Essoldo cinema and got in no problem.

Elton John Your Song, but I love Ewan Mcgregors version from Moulin Rouge

I love this thread! I’ve just gone through singing along or being reminded of places or times. Brilliant.

My first was Ben by Michael Jackson, still have it, along with a few others although once again nothing to play it on. We didn’t have a record player until I was about 15, given to us by my mums friend, but we did have a tape recorder and taped the ‘charts’ every Sunday.

If I’d had enough pocket money the first record I bought would have been He’s a Rebel by the Crystals.

hf59 Thu 08-Apr-21 13:00:44

I wanted to buy “I’m the urban spaceman baby” but The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band but they were sold out so came home with ‘Where do you go to my lovely “ instead but Peter Starstedd. It cost 7 shillings and sixpence!

TillyWhiz Thu 08-Apr-21 13:02:15

Nanananana1 Thu 08-Apr-21 13:02:49

"Delta Lady" by Joe Cocker
Still love it

Nansypansy Thu 08-Apr-21 13:05:46

My Nan bought me my first record ... Theme from A Summer Place by Percy Faith. Not really my choice but I liked it. My first record I bought myself was probably a Cliff Richard one .... I loved him but with hindsight I preferred Elvis ....
