Hello Everyone
Mine was 'Once Upon a Time' by Simple Minds (an LP).

It was 1985 and I was 13, so quite old really. It was the Summer holidays.
It cost £4.50 from whichever shop was WHSmith before it became WHSmith in Stourbridge.

I've no idea why I chose it. I think that I might have thought it was cool.
I was quite young for my age then. It must have been a bit of a quiet period for my mom and dad, just before I became a bit of a parental nightmare! ?

What was your first record?

Young Ones - Cliff Richard

Can't get used to Losing You - Andy Williams. My Mum said I wanted it, whereas I was into the Beatles at the time!!!!

I love Andy Williams' voice.
Your mum had good taste!

Waterloo single and Simon and Garfunkel's greatest hits in 1973. I had just left school and bought the LP with my first wage from my summer holiday job in the Knorr factory.

Band of Gold by Freda Payne, I was 13.

My parents were publicans so we had a jukebox, DJ’s and sometimes live bands they couldn’t understand why I wanted to buy my own records.

"Poetry in Motion" by Johnny Tillotson. I didn't have anything to play it on, I also bought the sheet music, just to look at his picture on the front!

Cant beat the thrill of buying your first record.

Were you full of teenage angst and unrequited love Ellianne?

Kate1949 Wed 07-Apr-21 14:06:05

Although I was (and still am) a fanatical Beatles fan, the first record I bought was Just One Look by The Hollies.

Ellianne Wed 07-Apr-21 14:07:32

grin FC.

Walking back to happiness by Helen Shapiro in 1961. She was only 14 years old when she recorded it and it went to number 1 in the charts.

‘Here comes summer’ by Jerry Keller, so sugary. I progressed to the Beatles, Rolling Stones and of course Elvis ?

Jeepster by TRex after I fell a little bit in love with Marc Bolan!
