What was the First Record that you Bought?

Beatles and Tchaikovsky 1812 from Woolworths. I remember the actual record was coloured red!

Still love the Nillson song Elliane. Was playing the album Nillson Schmillson at the weekend.
First single I bought was Pentecost Hotel by Nirvana. I had just got my first pay from my job as a lab assistant and it was the first thing I did. I think it was 7/6p. I don't know anyone else who bought it. None of my friends even remember it.

Walking back to happiness by Helen Shapiro in 1961. She was only 14 years old when she recorded it and it went to number 1 in the charts.

That was my first purchase too!!

I had saved up for ages and bought Michael Holliday singing 'The Story of My Life'. It was a 78 rpm in wax, and a little while later my brother put his foot on it and smashed it. I was heartbroken.

The Woolworths cover version of Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, the singer, I think, was Paul Rich. Must have been around 1959/60. I didn`t even have a record player, I played it at my friend`s house. I was about 16.
My first LP was the album from the film The Young Ones.

Go Now by the Moody Blues I was 13 and living in Birmingham - and they were part of the ”BrumBeat sound”

From a Jack to a King....who by ?? No idea. But I can remember the tune. Or maybe it was Leader of the pack ? Or Doo wah diddy ( Manfred Mann ?)

Lady d'Arbanville by Cat Stevens. Mum took me to buy a record as a treat and she thought I'd go for something a bit more commercial!

Mine was the theme tune to the tv programme White Horses - I was a totally horse-obsessed child!

We used to have short pieces of classical music played as we lined up in assembly in infant school so my first record was Flight of the bumble bee ( Rimsky Korsacof) and the second Fingals cave ( Mendleson). I presume it was a gift as I don’t think I had pocket money at that age. My taste did change...

We lived in Germany when I was a child and had the duty free NAAFI. I used to be sent down there with my mums ration card to buy her cigarettes and decided to buy her a present of the planets suite by Holst. She was thrilled. My granddaughter is currently learning about the solar system and is listening to the same music.

Christmas 1964 when I was 9 I was given a second hand Dansette record by my mum and dad and £1 from my nanny .

Singles were 6s 8d each , 3 for a £1.

I bought Little Children , Down Town and Little Red Rooster .

Grandmajet I have a photo of me with Billy Fury. He was so lovely

A great friend of mines mum was a huge fan of Billy. She kept very detailed scrap books about him.
The teacher of my friend was very interested in said scrap books.
I think that he may have made a TV program about him.
(I'm being deliberately obtuse just to add interest - I've already said who my famous teacher cum neighbour was!)

That’s still one of the best. I was brought up on Billy Eckstine, Nat king Cole and Al Martino.
My first record was: It might as well rain until September by Carol king.

My first was Lonnie Donegan's Battle of New Orleans on a 78rpm record.
I remember every one of the records mentioned above! I used to buy the NME and also listened to the BBC charts on a Sunday afternoon and wrote them in a notebook.
