Sorry but I find that hard to believe. Felt bad for weeks ? A few days maybe. How rubbish do you think you’d feel with Covid ? I know one fit healthy family who all had Covid and the father and son are still not on top form three months on.
You’re not having the vaccine but I bet you would want treatment.

DH and I have both had our first AZ vaccination. He was fine and I felt awful for about 24 to 48 hours. Shivers chills headache etc.
We have our second booked for 22 April and can’t wait.
Three things I read in the paper today.

No reports of blood clots in people having their second vaccination.

A high percentage of people who were admitted to hospital with COVID went on to have a stroke in the following weeks.

You stand more chance of being hit by lightening than having blood clots from the vaccine.

Oh for goodness sake biscuit I have a wide circle of friends including a couple with diabetics, one who had cancer and others with a variety of other illness, not one has had more than a couple of days feeling a bit off, I felt off for about twelve hours and two paracetamols

Interestingly, the chance of catching the plague (the actual Plague, i.e. Black Death) in 2021 is 6 times that of getting a blood clot.

DH has a blood cancer and he probably won’t get it until May at the earliest. Maybe I’ll get offered it in late summer, or maybe not? Not sure if there’s much point having it then if it’s efficacy only last 6 months.

We have a child in primary school so I feel pretty anxious about the situation most days.

Oh Cleo! The irony!!! You won't have the vaccine because a miniscule number of people have died from it, though not having the vaccine will increase your chance of getting Covid which has killed vast numbers of people in this country alone!!

Craic on where do you live? It is worrying that the wealthy and well connected seem to be getting it ahead of everyone else.

Clio, I have wondered the same (just curious really) but wasn't brave enough to ask.

I haven't had it and I couldn't have it regardless of whether I want to or not. I'm not currently eligible.

I have been conscientious about mask wearing and hand sanitising, distancing, following the rules, etc. so I feel I've been a good citizen.

It’s a shame this has happened to the AZ. I was so pleased to have the first dose as it was (and is) my preferred one, though I would have had any of the others. Now many people have doubts, in my opinion it should be reserved for the over 50 like many other countries. Obviously I’m no expert. Luckily in my case I’m well over that age, so will be having my second shot shortly.

Clio - if you read those warning paper inside any medication both prescribed or over-the-counter, then you would never take anything whatsoever. Probably not even eat many foods!!!!!

I have had both my AV jabs, - so relieved that I have. Disturbed that just one of my AC - in her mid-forties have not yet been offered their first jab,. Will be so very happy when she (and hubbie of same age), manage to get this.

All my other AC and their partners have had their first jab, and my eldest daughter her second one (due to having no spleen).

I really do find it difficult to understand anyone refusing any vax etc. that can prevent them getting seriously ill.

My thanks and admiration of the scientists who work on and produce these is boundless.

Although we can all go on about relative risk - and I'm a prime example of that - I don't think that makes any difference to a lot of people with vaccine hesitancy about Covid.

If any of us were really ill, and were offered a treatment that had a 95% chance of curing us, but a 0.00005% chance of killing us, I think most of us would go for the treatment. Most of us have probably done that in the past already, I certainly have.

But for many people the risk of Covid is not immediate; they are not ill at this precise moment and have read all the messages about how most people survive etc. Then there is the almost complete lack of understanding about how the vaccines were developed and tested. So it becomes a vicious circle of denial and refusal.

Personally, I don't know anybody at all IRL who is nervous about the vaccine and certainly nobody who has refused it. Social Media and the news reports will find the odd few who will refuse. And I mean "odd" in both senses. I'm not going to lose any sleep over them. We might be near the herd immunity threshold on Monday. That's good news, lets think of that!

Clio51 you could catch Covid and get a blood clot from the disease and die, or you could have the jab and have a 0.000095% chance of having a fatal blood clot. I know which odds sound the best to me! Just saying!

Who has said it’s been worked on for years? I’ve watched every news bulletin known to man about covid from the start, and have never heard this.
I’ve had my vaccine, and have my second booked, but I was worried about at the start. No one should be jumped on and be slated for genuine concerns. The people that annoy me are the ones who are stuck in these conspiracy theories...you know, the government are able to watch what we’re all doing!!
All I can say is, they must have been bored senseless the last few months, as none of us are doing anything....except the protesters of course.
In the case of people like the OP...she may just need a little more time and encouragement, not harsh comments.

DiscoDancer1975, I gather that vaccines for similar viruses have been worked on for years, so it wasn’t a case of starting entirely from scratch.

Dd1 lives in Oxford and several of the parents at Gdcs’ primary school have worked very hard on the AZ vaccine, and I for one am very grateful to them.

The numbers really make the point. I had the vaccine although I suffer from anaphylaxis to many drugs and foods. But I risk assessed the dangers and knew it was worth it.

This is surely a matter of simple arithmetic. What is it that people refuse to grasp?

I’m just wondering Clio, whether you will reject the treatments for Covid, should you catch it or whether you will think they are too risky too?

Would you have any conscience about exposing medical staff to your infection? Or would you consider it a risk they should be prepared to take to treat you?
