Good Morning Everyone,
Its light with grey cloud overhead , but its dry.
Today , no cycling on TV, due to an event being postponed in northern France due to growth of the pandemic in the country.
Laundry later, did my buses trips yesterday Bicester via Buckingham , got a nice lardy cake from the bakery shop which also has a cafe , which will reopen when rules allow .

Good Morning all from a very cold Glasgow, it's -5°C, ?with bright sunshine. Kalu, we don't have snow, it must be because your area is higher up than us thank goodness!

It never occurred to me that anyone would notice I hadn't posted yesterday, you really are a lovely lot! ? My intention was to post later, but circumstances overtook that idea.

Novella alert ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

I'm afraid I have been very naughty, blush, but sometimes you have to make a choice for your own wellbeing.
My out of the blue episode on Thursday and necessary stay in bed had upset my daughter, so on Friday she arrived with fish suppers for dinner, (to save me cooking) and to show off her new car, which she had unexpectedly picked up that day. She was like a wee girl again, just like the day she passed her test all those years ago, so full of excitement. It gave me such pleasure to see her joy.

She and my SIL as my carers, aware of how low and frustrated I was, had come up with a plan to cheer me up. They had decided to go to the 24hr Tesco superstore at 7am, when it would be deserted and if I felt OK, would I like come with them.
I used to frequent the Silverburn Mall, ( Litterpicker, another clue) every week, either shopping or lunching with my pals. The last time was February 2020!

DH laughed, as he thought I would never manage to be organised. ( Don't underestimate me, my darling! ) However, he did think getting out was a good idea, as long as I was extremely careful.) It also meant he had an empty for a change.
Knowing how unpredictable my health is, DD came up with a plan that DH would secretly message her at 6am with an update!
With great anticipation, ( and a touch of apprehension) I laid out my clothes and medication the night before.

Well I did get to go. The car parks were empty and the handful of customers and staff in this huge store were all masked, so for the first time on over a year, I felt quite reassured being out. If I had seen anyone maskless, I would have been very anxious. I'm exempt from wearing a mask, because of my COPD, but do wear one, although I find it difficult.

The trip had little to do with going shopping, but a lot about finding a light glimmering at the end of the very, dark tunnel I have been incarcerated in since the beginning of March 2019, a lifetime away.

I got carried away and bought all sorts of random stuff, I couldn't get on my online order: a drain rod, fuses, Gorilla Glue (reduced), sculpting, high waisted, perfect length jeans ( I needed some scaffolding for my lockdown body!) DH's favourite cherry liqueurs (usually bought in Rome) in the World food section and greatly reduced perennials, which had nothing wrong with them! (The conveyor belt was covered in soil. The assistant was not at all amused blush )
I got to the till, only to find I had no Tesco card, so couldn't use my stash of vouchers, which I had been saving to treat myself! ?
I generously put the points on DD's card, only for her to tell me, once I had paid, that she had just found My card in her purse! ?

We were safe back home by 9.45am and my intention was to sit in the sunny conservatory with a cuppa, peruse GN and post. I fell asleep and woke up at lunchtime! ????

I had just wakened, when DS2 and his fiancée arrived in the garden. I always suspect that there has been a secret family Whatsapp conference about me, when one of my children unexpectedly turns up! It means they are worried about me and have delegated someone one to visit. They think I don't know about this secret chat group! ?

He had come to take DH'S PC away to have a look at it. We had another power cut on Thursday and despite the PC having surge protect, something has blown. DS had just spent weeks upgrading it at considerable expense, much to DHs annoyance and frustraton.
I had spent a good part of Friday working on it, but eventually decided to relinquish the job to the geek!!

Baubles, I noticed you mentioned garden centres in the Valley, did you visit Silver Birch? My brother lives just down the road in a house which backs onto the river.?????
I love that garden centre!

Jaxyjaxy, I was telling DH what horse you had picked for the National. As usual, he was only half listening and thought it was a tip from Beauregard! He couldn't wait to tell me that he had put on an each way bet for me, as a surprise! ? He means well.

So a very gentle day for me today, I am tired, but in good spirits, can't ask for much more! If its not too cold, I will footer and do some fire raising. I have lots of old school diaries to destroy, they are full of confidential information in them.
I didn't quite get it right the other day. There was so much smoke, I was afraid that, as we live near the fire station, ( Litterpicker ?) we may have had some strong, handsome firefighters ? appear! ?

Hoping that everyone has as pleasant a day as possible. For all who find it a battle to get through each day, ? and ?

Good Morning from an overcast and slightly chilly France. I live about 120 miles SW of Paris, near Le Mans. It is dry but we will get some rain later. Yesterday produced drizzle and some Mediterranean downpours. We do need it all.

I should have posted yesterday, but didn't. 6 years ago yesterday, Ashcombe and I should have been married, in Cockington, Devon. Instead we were in France, and I didn't get home until mid-morning - having just come out of hospital! I will explain why in a moment, but it was a nice sunny day, and we opened a bottle of fizz and I slipped the ring onto her finger anyway. I had been in dock for something over a week, having prostate surgery. No, there was never any hint of cancer, but it was very enlarged. Many men suffer this problem in later life. My op, called a TURP (Trans-Urethral Radical Prostatectomy) in English, was under local anaesthetic, and life has been much more comfy ever since. We finally tied the knot six months later at the original venue.

Tomorrow I am due my first jab, AZ of course, courtesy of my local pharmacist, Stéphanie. I have been instructed to take a paracetamol an hour beforehand. This instruction was news, but a quick Google revealed a Lancet article noting that immediate side effects were reduced in volunteers who did this. Suits me! The last time a lady called Stéphanie had cause to lay hands on me was in that hospital 6 years ago, when a senior nurse inserted a catheter!

There are a number of rather old fruit trees on my lawn, and one is well on the way out. I have just watched the local woodpecker climbing it in anticipation of a good time!

I hope everyone has a tranquil Sunday and the week pans out as you hope.

Good morning from The Black Country, where I woke at 9am to snow! It seems to have stopped now though.

It was a weird day yesterday. We were sitting in the sun at 1pm eating our lunch outside. By 2pm it was hailing then snowing, which lasted most of the day.

No real plans today, except a walk if it stops sleeting later. Our local pub by the Canal is all ready for next week, with Pagodas etc all set up. Hopefully we will go one lunchtime.

Welcome to this GM thread supernain and monk08

Hoping Marydoll is ok, and wishing you all a good day

Good morning Mick and all from a sunny northwest Lancashire coast.
Off to church in a min, not sure what to put on, sunny but chilly. Never thought there would be a stage in life when thoughts of a matching face mask enter my head for a trip out!
Yesterday after a little shop, drove out into the ‘country’ here. Flat as a pancake and rather bleak. I refer to it as the Battle of the Somme as a line of soldiers in the sparsely tree lined distance wouldn’t surprise me. Very good soil for potatoes though. That’s one reason why I’m missing my usual trips. This island has such beautiful countryside. Still, it was good to drive along with Classic FM on in the background.
I sat in the garden and made telephone calls. Not keen on the phone, but doing anything outside is more of a pleasure, and painted my nails. Big deal...
I’m staying in tomorrow in case the world explodes with all the openings.
Thinking of anyone with worries and have a nice Sunday.

EkwaNimitee Sun 11-Apr-21 09:20:11

Good morning, Mick and everyone from another gloriously sunny day on the Cumbrian coast where we had a hard frost last night. I wonder what's happening with all those bedding plants that have come out on sale recently.
I'm finding more and more last minute little jobs that need doing before my move on Thursday. I'm pacing myself and trying not to get wound up, my meditation app is proving a godsend.
Hopefully, everyone has a pleasant relaxing day with problems and worries eased.

Good morning from a bright and blue-skied Northampton. A nice change from yesterday when we had grey skies and rain. I checked on my plant which looked as though it might have frost damage and brought it out of the summerhouse for a few hours; shall do the same today. It's supposed to be hardy to -20°!

Spent a lot of yesterday knitting and am making good progress. Also watched lots of recorded programmes on tv and cleared space on my tv box.

Sadly my rugby team lost yesterday, must be because I couldn't wear my lucky socks as they were in the wash!

Lots of family and friends' birthdays in the next week, so must write cards and get them in the post.

Lamb chops to get out of the freezer for dinner tonight. Hope Sunday is bright for us all.

Supernain Sun 11-Apr-21 09:03:29

Good morning all. I don’t generally post as don’t get round to reading everyone’s updates until late afternoon but I’m more organised today.

I so enjoy all the regulars - I feel like I know you all.

Bright skies and sunshine here in Norfolk this morning. Will wash bedding, clean windows then get out into the garden for a few hours if the sun remains. It so motivates me. I really struggle with grey days.

Apart from that I have virtual church at 10 and will then do my 5 minutes challenge which is a trick I learned from Lynsey Crombie in her book The Easy Life. I don’t like housework and have a cleaner on a Friday (she arrived on Friday after a 4 month hiatus) but like to keep my bungalow nice in between her visits. The challenge keeps me well on top of things and I seem able to manage it consistently.

Hope everyone has a lovely day and flowerflowers for all those struggling

Jaxjacky Sun 11-Apr-21 09:01:13

Good morning all from a bright S Hants +5. No rain yesterday, well, a smattering, we really need a few hours or days of it. Elianne your dog poses well! Pleased you did your buses Mick with a lardy prize at the end. Lots of visits going on, I would like my DD with GC’s and DS to visit together, but we’d break the rule of 6, so will wait. Marydoll did post briefly yesterday late on yesterday to say she was ok, hopefully will be back today and others missing. Might go and dig at the allotment, it will be colder here today, we did nip up yesterday to cover peeping spuds. DH was happy yesterday as his team beat Man City, he changed channel last night to watch the Masters and it was on a break due to a storm. I hope you all have a gentle day ?? (flamingoes muse).

B9exchange Sun 11-Apr-21 08:56:22

Good morning all from a cold but sunny Hertfordshire, hoping to hear from those missing for a day or so.

Off to a service at the Cathedral followed by a trip to the farmers' market.

I have just started a jumper for 2 year old DGS. He has a sibling due in the next couple of weeks, but it has just turned itself into breech position, an attempt will be made to turn it tomorrow. After a very traumatic first birth, I am hoping poor DiL will have a better experience this time.

Pittcity Sun 11-Apr-21 08:47:43

Good morning from sunny Colchester. Just a couple of small cotton wool clouds on the horizon. Quite warm in the sun as I've just put washing out and watered my pots. We've had no real rain here for ages.
Yesterday was dry but windy and we had a lovely day in DD2s garden and on a long family walk. Today is being spent quietly at home with a roast lamb dinner to look forward to.
Much love x

grannysyb Sun 11-Apr-21 08:45:33

Bright and sunny here at the moment, hope it lasts. Off to allotment this morning, no rain for weeks here so we will have to water the potatoes, hard work as we have to hand pump! Roast chicken tonight, and hopefully rhubarb crumble to follow. Looking forward to the shops opening tomorrow, I need buttons, birthday cards and a present for my hairdressers baby. Have a good day everyone.

Alygran Sun 11-Apr-21 08:45:30

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s another sunny day. The predicted hail and snow didn’t happen yesterday.
I’m meeting a friend for a walk later so I hope the sunshine stays.
This evening I will be lighting my Bowel Cancer remembrance candle for the Remember Together event.
Have a good day everyone. Stay safe.

grandmajet Sun 11-Apr-21 08:39:14

Good morning from a bright looking Nottinghamshire, although wintry showers are forecast for this afternoon.
Your photo brought a big smile to my face Ellianne, he does indeed like to pose!
Yesterday had a day out! We went to visit our DS and DIL in Cheshire, and travelled there via the ‘scenic route’ through the Peak District. We had rain, hail, sleet and snow all in the space of half an hour! It looked quite lovely on the hills. Luckily it was fine and not too cold when we got to our destination.
Like Ashcombe, we saw pubs obviously making preparations to open for outside business soon and I hope so much that the weather will be kind to them, the hospitality industry has suffered so much.
Enjoy your Sunday, folks.

Grandmajean Sun 11-Apr-21 08:37:38

Good morning from sunny , cold Cheshire. Not much planned -maybe a walk. Watched final episode of "Intruder" last night. Didn't like the ending .
Beautiful dog Ellianne

Sunny S Lanarkshire baubles?? Send it this way please, we’re covered with mist here but you’ve given me hope!

I do hope the mist lifts soon because, having bought a particular birthday card some two months ago for a good friend, I forgot to post it in time and plan to drive about 12 miles to her small town and pop it through her letterbox while she’s at church. Brain like a sieve, so annoying.

Other than that and virtual church myself, no real plan. My on-line book club meets a week on Tuesday andI haven’t started reading this month’s selection so I should make a start on that.
Good wishes for a nice Sunday everyone, especially those who, for whatever reason, are struggling a bit ??

ginny Sun 11-Apr-21 08:28:12

Good Morning from a brighter N. Bucks.

Will be preparing a cream tea later to take to DD2s garden. DD3 has has a difficult pregnancy and has been sad not to be able to share with family due to restrictions. I am meeting up with all 3 DDs, DD3s Mother in Law and Sister in Law. It is a little surprise for her , she thinks she is just having a cuppa with one sister. Taking plenty of blankets to keep us cosy.
Hope you all find a ?today.

Gingster Sun 11-Apr-21 08:25:17

Good morning from a bright sunny Essex, but still very nippy. ?. Yesterday was dreary, so it’s nice to see the sun this morning. ?

I will start thinking about what to take to our cottage by the sea. We will travel up tomorrow and stay for a couple of weeks. We have to be back for our second jabs on the 28th. Really looking forward to it as we haven’t been able to go and stay since November.

We watched the Grand National yesterday and didn’t pick the winners but how wonderful to see the lady jockey win. I always watch it with hand over my eyes as I hate to see the horses fall and the jockeys being trampled on. I do wish they wouldn’t use the crops so much too. Apart from that, it is a lovely tradition and seeing those beautiful creatures is a wonderful sight.

I have gammon in the slow cooker for dinner today. Couldn’t face chicken again, as much as we like it.

Sorry you haven’t heard from your DD lately Harrigran . Mother/daughter relationships can be tricky. I’ve had a bit of a falling out with mine but life is too short so I will make the first move and phone/message her today. I never fall out with my sons and have a great relationship with them and their wives but DD and I are too alike. We get on like a house on fire MOST of the time and have a great laugh together but now and again the balloon goes up and we are estranged for a while. I know it saddens us both greatly! ?

It’s my oldest friends birthday today. We started school together and have stayed close ever since. It was our 70ths last year but all our celebrations were put on hold. Perhaps later in the year we can have a few days together along with our other school pal. ?

Best wishes to you all and I hope we hear from MARYDOLL today , telling us all is well ?

???

Ellianne Sun 11-Apr-21 08:07:47

Good morning everyone.
The weather is still chilly but we saw some sunshine yesterday. The town shops are gearing up to re open, but the hotels still have scaffolding up as their kick off date is later on. I'm sure those with self catering booked are already here. The lifting of restrictions on a Monday must an annoying start date for them if they've paid for the place from Friday or Saturday.
We went for a river walk after our outing to the farm shop yesterday. I thought I would introduce you to someone who likes to pose! Maybe he could become a model and earn me some money!
Have a good Sunday. I'm enjoying the posts.

harrigran Sun 11-Apr-21 08:03:28

Good morning from a sunny NE where we have a frost again.
No plans for today but any tasks have to be done before lunch as DH has to lie down all afternoon.
Haven't heard from DD for several weeks, she is going to have the roof replaced on her house so she has had to move the furniture and fittings to the floor below. She has a three storey house and the top floor is their bedroom, no attic.
Her two foster cats still fight and can not be in the same room, I think a few children would be less hassle.
Hoping I will be able to have my hair done soon.

Sar53 Sun 11-Apr-21 07:54:18

Good morning from a sunny Essex by the sea. I am discombobulated as DH has got up early. He usually stays in bed later than me and I get an hour with my book, nevermind it's not important in the great scheme of life.
He is off to rugby with his grandsons this morning and I shall have an empty for a few hours. I have washing to do and a casserole to prepare for dinner, we don't always fancy a roast.
I had a lovely long chat with DD2 yesterday afternoon and have provisionally made plans to go and stay with them but not til around the 20th May. I have also made plans to go and stay with DD1 but again not til around the 8th June. It is something to look forward to.
Have a pleasant Sunday and find a ?and a flamboyance of ??? xxx

baubles Sun 11-Apr-21 07:53:22

Good morning Mick, morning all from sunny South Lanarkshire. There’s a hard frost giving everything a brilliant sparkly covering, it’s so pretty and hopefully means another lovely day ahead.

We have lots of holes ready for filling with plants in our new rockery but I think the alpines will have to spend another night in the garage until this cold spell passes.

Not much happening, I may start another blanket, I have such a stash of yarn needing to be used.

Wishing everyone a peaceful day.
