As many here will, hopefully, live to experience the reign of Charles and possibly even William, how do you see the Monarchy and the Royal Family changing, adapting, innovating?
Do you envisage much change?

The "black spider" letters were finally released after much resistance from Charles and his advisers and several attempts for them to be disclosed, culminating in a Supreme Court decision in 2015. The establishment fought tooth and nail to keep them under wraps.

I looked it up yesterday evening, his concerns of global warming, social deprivation , farming, architecture, he spoke publicly of these matters, I met him several times during the foot and mouth outbreak which badly affected the area where I live, a very caring and compassionate man.

Reminds me of what miners told me of the Duke of Windsor’s
visit to Merthyr during the depression, he saw the poverty and spoke out.

I think Queen Elizabeth has kept the family firm viable because of her morals and personality. There will never be another like her. She will be a hard act to follow.

Yes Alexa she will, Charles will have a difficult reign, he is caught between the Queen and her many years and William who is young .

The British class system should be modernised so that nobody, including the Windsor family, is allowed to own an enormous lot of land. More to the point than the Windsor family, rich sheikhs and Russians not be allowed to buy Britain.

I agree, she has been exemplary as a Monarch.

After watching this video of Charles (if you did, a real eye opener) do you think he should be king or William for that matter ?

I bet William can't wait to get his hands on the Duchy money which should go to the treasury.

I don’t think Charles will be a ‘traditional’ king necessarily.

I believe he has already stated he intends to be ‘defender of faiths’ rather than ‘defender of the faith.’

I think we will see a more streamlined, modern monarchy, more appropriate for nowadays, and even more so with William. More ‘hands on’, less formal.

I hope to live long enough to see both Charles and William crowned.

?

Charles has been light years ahead in much of his thinking re things like inclusivity with Defender of Faiths, green matters, organic farming etc. Many people derided his views which they now fall over themselves to espouse.

You can be Scottish and British you know Alegrias. In fact you already are, as is the Queen.

Whether the Scots and Welsh like it or not they are first and foremost British, Scots, Welsh, are all subsets of being British, just because they have some devolved power does change that.

Alegrias1 Sat 17-Apr-21 15:45:27

Ohh, thanks indespensableme. That makes us feel wanted.

It would be nice if you didn't refer to us in the third person, we can read you know.

I take it that was a typo in the last line? grin

Galaxy Sat 17-Apr-21 16:02:25

I cant imagine why you want independence Alegrias grin

Casdon Sat 17-Apr-21 16:22:53

I think you forgot to mention indispensableme to use your words, that the English and Northern Irish are also ‘subsets’ of being British. That way of putting it is designed to put our backs up in Scotland and Wales. Why do that, it’s certainly not going to win friends and influence people?

Callistemon Sat 17-Apr-21 17:14:43

A set A is a subset of another set B if all elements of the set A are elements of the set B. In other words, the set A is contained inside the set B. The subset relationship is denoted as A⊂B.

For example, if A is the set {♢,♡,♣,♠} and B is the set {♢,△,♡,♣,♠}, then A⊂B but B⊄A. Since B contains elements not in A, we can say that A is a proper subset of B. Or if I1 is the interval [0,2] and I2 is the interval [0,1], then I2⊂I1.

Substititute Brutish, Welsh, Scottish, English, Northern Irish as you wish if it makes it easier to understand.

Callistemon Sat 17-Apr-21 17:15:47

British not Brutish, but substitute as you wish
???

Anniebach Sat 17-Apr-21 17:23:35

indespensableme whether you like it or not, the English are
a subset of being British , nothing changes that .

Alegrias1 Sat 17-Apr-21 17:24:28

Oh, I dont know. Brutish kinda fits.

Is the triangle Gibraltar?

Casdon Sat 17-Apr-21 17:44:34

No Alegrias1 it’s the kingdom of Hay on Wye, which is a subset of the subset that is Wales.

Casdon Sat 17-Apr-21 17:46:39

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Booth This is why.

Daisend1 Sat 17-Apr-21 18:14:08

I would like to have seen Princess Anne on the throne .

Anniebach Sat 17-Apr-21 18:24:53

Casdon I didn’t know Richard had died , King Richard of
Hay-on-Wye.

Callistemon Sat 17-Apr-21 18:32:35

Casdon

No Alegrias1 it’s the kingdom of Hay on Wye, which is a subset of the subset that is Wales.

Oh!

I thought it was Monmouthshire, neither in England nor Wales.

Bridgeit Sat 17-Apr-21 18:46:46

I think Princess Anne’s response to that would be ‘Naff Off’?
