I'm currently staying in holiday home in Cornwall. If I hadn't turned up and gone abroad instead, I would still have had to pay the full £1,000 for the week. I want see people wanting to lose their money.

I agree it's a very selfish attitude. Makes life more difficult for other holiday makers and for hotel & B&B owners.

I'm not surprised by this at all. It's an " every man for himself " society now. Begger you Jack, I'll be alright !

I’m more worried about the one step forward and two back toad ?

I agree with you Daisymae, it’s selfish. The example I read was a family who’ve booked one holiday in the UK and one in the Canaries at the same time. They said they were ‘hedging their bets’. Apart from tying up a holiday for someone else, their letting the vendor assume a booking too. It’s greedy and flash.

I think even in this country, more caution is needed. We want to get over this, and while I can understand the urgency to get back to normal, it’ll be a constant two steps forward and one back, if we’re not sensible.

The words ‘ travel’ and ‘ holiday’ shouldn’t exist at the moment, unless it’s in this country. In my opinion, no one should be going anywhere abroad and no one should be coming in. It doesn’t make sense to me at all. If you’re irresponsible enough to go abroad, it doesn’t surprise me that you’d double book. The selfishness is in going in the first place, not how many bookings you make.

I heard about this yesterday and like you think it's "incredibly selfish".

I wonder if the people doing this are the ones who were stripping super market shelves at the beginning of the first lock down, with no thought for anyone other than themselves.

Apparently some people are double booking the same weeks, abroad and in the UK to make sure they get their holiday. There was something about it on the TV the other day and a news article today. Seems incredibly selfish bearing in mind the shortage, especially in school holiday weeks. I sort of hope they end up double paying too, expect that don't care about the financial side of things.
