Ellianne

According to this week’s TV guide, no mention is made of the statue ceremony being televised. I expect it will just feature on the News.

Covid might be used as a reason for it being more low key, but I think the situation between William and Harry has contributed to a scaling down of it all also.

Thank you Calendargirl.

Sparklfizz has he ever said he wanted to marry Camilla ?

Did Mountbatten or the Queen Mother say in words or in
writing Camilla wasn’t suitable?

A chap spoke of sleeping with one of the girls Charles dated and I do think the fact there is not one photograph of him
with Camilla matters, there are many of him with other girl
friends,

Nothing was said about a relationship between Charles and
Camilla until Diana spoke of it. The press followed the girls he
dated but not Camilla.

I really don’t understand why everything Diana said is believed,

Camilla was in love with Parker Bowles, she married him before Charles joined the navy ,yet the same lies are repeated ,
she married when Charles was in the navy.

Charles is Godfather to one of her children, Anne dated Parker
Bowles, he is godfather to one of her children.

Anniebach Charles was spending weekends with Camilla at Mountbatten's house. He was in an 18 month relationship with her.

There are plenty of photos of Charles with Camilla in this article, and quotes from Dimbleby's authorised biography of Charles.

Camilla married Parker Bowles while Charles was in the navy.

Charles was too uncertain of his feelings in November 1972 ,
not madly in love was he.

Penny Junor believes ! the affair started

So this couple so madly in love , he was uncertain of his feelings and she married 3 months after they spent a weekend
together, didn’t take her long to recover from being madly in love did it .

I still believe they had a relationship when both single, she married a man she loved, they were friends as were Anne and
Parker Bowles after they broke up. The friendship became deeper when they were in unhappy marriages. I do not believe he was having an affair with Camilla when he married Diana.

I wonder how many daughters-in law would welcome a statue of their mother-in-law in their back garden?

Anniebach Sun 27-Jun-21 12:58:01

? not me

NotSpaghetti Sun 27-Jun-21 13:01:22

Good point easybee but I think nobody can possibly complain as I think she's been deified.

Whatdayisit Sun 27-Jun-21 23:01:33

My dd has a personality disorder mental health condition like Diana and yes as Anniebach says it makes a marriage harder.
That young woman at 19 was used. How would anybody's mh be under those circumstances. She just wanted her husband to love her and not another woman, i'm sure that is all most brides want.

I never really took any notice of the Royals but when Prince George was born the sadness of the grandmother that was missing made me think more about this iconic woman.
Whatever people think of her she did more than most to change the world - for AIDS victims alone - and will always be remembered in history.

I think that it's noteworthy that Diana's father, Johnny, turned his children against their mother, Frances Shand Kydd.

This was done as a reaction to her alleged infidelities, despite Johnny being himself unfaithful.

The adult children continued to have difficult relationships with Frances.

It's difficult not to see this as a text book case of history repeating itself.

Galaxy Mon 28-Jun-21 08:22:20

Yes I think Diana's age at the time of marriage is relevant. Whose health wouldnt have worsened after that.

Anniebach Mon 28-Jun-21 08:26:21

FannyCornforth. What is the connection with Johnnie Spencer turning his children against their mother ?

Lucca Mon 28-Jun-21 08:26:46

I dont think she has been deified at all. If you read these threads there are many who point out her faults while still acknowledging what she did achieve for good causes.

FannyCornforth Mon 28-Jun-21 08:28:38

Well, Annie some are of the opinion that Diana tried to turn her sons against their father (due to infidelities)

FannyCornforth Mon 28-Jun-21 08:32:14

Lucca I agree.
It seems to me that the perceived deification was a result of the widespread lunacy that followed the death of Diana.
I think that these days she, and indeed other members of the RF, are viewed in a more balanced and realistic fashion

Sorry but how do these people pretend to know that? Maybe she did maybe she didn’t but none of us can know that.

Anniebach Mon 28-Jun-21 09:08:33

I don’t think she said she was turning the children against their
father and she was never one to lie or hurt anyone was she

Lucca Mon 28-Jun-21 09:20:30

Don’t understand your post Annie, apart from the obvious sarky comment

I think I disagree with your final statement Fanny.

Look at the opprobrium that has been heaped on the heads of the Sussexes. Look at the hero worship for Prince Phillip when he died. And now Catherine and Sophie are being built up by the papers as the perfect Royal consorts.

Everything, good and bad, gets exaggerated when a Royal is involved.

Anniebach Mon 28-Jun-21 09:30:00

So sorry Lucca I didn’t add - ?

Anniebach Mon 28-Jun-21 09:33:15

comparing Kate and Sophie with Meg and Fergie ?

Alegrias1 Mon 28-Jun-21 09:35:53

I didn't realise you were on such good terms with them you could use diminutives of their names Annie. Come on, spill the beans, are they really like the papers say they are?

Some Royals are deified, some are demonised. It was every thus.

FannyCornforth Mon 28-Jun-21 09:36:38

Yes, you could be right Alegrias
My views are very coloured by 1997.

Lucca I'm not saying that I believe the anti Diana narrative, but I did think that her relationship with her parents is interesting.
I'm viewing it through the 'soap opera' lens

Annie I must admit that I'm getting a bit confused by your posts

Anniebach Mon 28-Jun-21 09:51:09

What I really don’t understand is everyone knew Charles was having an affair with Camilla when he married , surely Sarah
Spencer , Lady Fermoy, Johnnie Spencer , Robert Fellows
and Jane Spencer Fellows , Charles Spencer knew , yet didn’t tell her.

Galaxy Mon 28-Jun-21 09:53:10

And if they behave in a way which they are not supposed to (the rules of supposed acceptable behaviour are ever changing so it is difficult to keep up) then Kate and Sophie will receive the same treatment.
