Hi, I am 51 and never expected to be separated/single at this age lol,
What are some of you best tips to help keep looking young - ish .
I put kiwi juice in my moisturiser and I feel it makes my skin feel a lot softer.

Exfoliate!

There’s just no point applying even the best moisturisers or serums to old, dead skin. And older, drier skin needs more exfoliation.

I have used Oil of Ulay (now Olay) beauty fluid for over 40 years. I am 71 and have hardly any wrinkles on my face. I have lots of other problems though!

Eat lots of fruit and veg and stay hydrated (doesn't have to be all water), don't smoke, use a really good sunscreen and don't sunbathe your face anyway plenty of make up 'glows', clean your make up off thoroughly each night and have a day now and then with no make up at all. That's what I do anyway- I still look like the Bride of Dracula but hey ho!! smile {grin]

Keep out of the sun, don't smoke and don't over do alcohol and choose parents with good skin! As I didn't follow this good advice I do my best to ameliorate the damage by using Clarins serum in the morning with Clarins day cream on top. I use their primer before putting on a foundation cream and clean it all off with their cleanser. I use their night cream too. My skin is pretty good considering.

Goat’s Milk soap for everywhere and throw away all your other products - you won’t need them.

I'm 55. I've worn makeup on and off during my life and currently not worn any for about 6 years, maybe more.
I've never done the whole hog of undercreams, serums, moisturisers etc, etc.
Occasionally, my DiL will present me with things she's picked up at The Body Shop (she gets discount as her mum works there, so gets the odd few freebies, too).
I tend to then ask DD, "What the heck is this and what do I do with it?" Often followed by "Is it any use to you?" Not wanting to be horrible to DiL, she's a gem, but she doesn't get that I'm just not a girly-girly and don't do the whole hog of this stuff!
I do, however, occasionally like body creams and perfumes from The Body Shop.
Then I get, "Wow! You have beautiful skin! What skincare routine do you use?" (Beautiful skin where I don't have psoriasis).
The answer is "Water!"
Yup, plain old water!
I'm so proud of my beautiful skin, especially when asked by younger women! ??

Dont whatever else you do, get your teeth whitened!

It thins the enamel which gets thinner as you age in any case and can lead to additional issues in your later years.

My friend who’s 70 has perfect skin, she’s only ever washed her face with water since aged 7/8.
As others have said, smile.

My nan looked great for her age.
She always said if she saw a wrinkle she ate more to iron it out.

Grannynannywanny Wed 30-Jun-21 22:26:47

The best tip I can offer is to always remove your glasses while looking in the mirror. You’ll never have a wrinkle or a grey hair ?

MissAdventure Wed 30-Jun-21 22:39:43

Just make sure you're sitting down if you decide to look while wearing them, one day. shock
It can be a terrible shock, I know.

welbeck Wed 30-Jun-21 22:39:56

keep out of the sun.
wear a broad-brimmed hat. and try to cover hands.
sun damage to face and hands is very ageing.
always use at least spf 15, and 30 or 50 at this time of year.

Casdon Wed 30-Jun-21 22:52:03

My top tip is to stand tall and hold your head high - poor posture ages you more than anything else.

dogsmother Wed 30-Jun-21 23:49:52

I think eyebrows or lack of definition and colour can be aging.
Also the lips need to be kept a little bit defined as they too can lose definition as you age. That together with decent posture.....

Not if done professionally! ??

Moisteriser, lots and lots and lots of it, gently massaged into your skin every morning, without fail.

Doesn't have to high price, high fake science stuff. Just supermarket or Boots/Superdrug own brand.

Stand tall, avoid the 'little old lady hunch' and be confident, pretend if you don't feel it, you soon will.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 01-Jul-21 09:45:56

Totally agree with the skincare and posture advice. I’d add look after your hair. I’m 70 but still wear mine long and that suits me much better than a short style and definitely takes years off me. I also wear eye makeup every day, applied with a light touch and definitely not the ‘mutton’ look but I certainly look younger and brighter with it. Some people are lucky and have the features to look good with short hair and no makeup. Unfortunately I am not one of those people!

Cut out sugar as much as possible - it wrecks your hormones and destroys collagen (think of your skin as a brick wall and the cement being destroyed). I did this in my late 40s and pretty much sailed through the menopause (no hot flushes, mood swings etc) and have frequently been told that I look considerably younger than my age.
Re being single - embrace it - I became single at 59 after decades of marriage - I'm loving not having to compromise ??

Olive53 Thu 01-Jul-21 11:50:35

The best anti ageing tip I can give is don’t smoke, try and eat a healthy diet and drink at least six glasses of water a day, oh and don’t go on sun beds or lie in the hot sun for too long without sun block.

I was recommended to Kettlewell clothes which has a variety of lovely colours and I am regularly complimented when I wear my turquoise zig zag top and turquoise jacket.

Beige is out. Bright fun jewellery is in. Make a statement.

I had my teeth whitened and am very pleased with the results. I top it up every 6 months with the tooth guard with bleach in.

Yammy Thu 01-Jul-21 11:52:47

Wear sun protection all year round face, hands and body.
Never say never my dd told me to darken my eyebrows and they do look better.
Stick with the grey hair if you have gone that way during the epidemic. I hate mine I've never looked like this in my life but have had loads of compliments even off DSinlaw who never usually makes comments. An old friend said you have to lose the high lights sometime may as well do it when everyone else is.
Choose your parents with care it's all in the genes, but impossible to do.

Arty2 Thu 01-Jul-21 12:07:53

Face moisturiser = E45 either lotion or cream
Never dye hair
Be your true self and RELAX

sandelf Thu 01-Jul-21 12:23:20

Of course we don't know what bothers you. But my daughter told me about - Braun epilator (no chemicals, quick, clean). I use it 'wherever' (fine on face with care). And I'm a flakey sunburny skin type - Ameliorate lotions - exfoliate without grit! Improved texture on all skin and helps horrible feet. Hope we all get some hints here.
