Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

yes, it did sound predatory .but, That's who she asked to meet. the celebrity 'lizzie cundy was to look after meghan when she arrived in London on the celebrity circuit....She asked about ashley cole the footballer. She met harry and then 'ghosted' everyone else.
come on Lucca, keep up.

Diana would probably have been a role model?

She'd just turned 16 when Diana died. I expect she was vaguely aware that a princess from the UK had died in a car crash and carried on watching her Angelina Jolie movies.

It interests me that people see the things they want to in a story, because it has wider implications for how a country's population can be led to believe anything; that Brexit is a good idea for instance.

I looked up the Cole/Meghan thing (its a quiet morning) and the reports I saw said that Cole had tried to contact her, but she wasn't interested. So all her fault, clearly.... confused

FannyCornforth Fri 23-Jul-21 09:53:39

Alegrias
According to Andrew Morton, who interviewed her childhood friends, Meghan was ‘fascinated’ by the British Royal Family, and Diana was a ‘role model’ for her humanitarian work.
I knew that I’d read it somewhere.

Like Catherine, I think that Meghan had plans for bagging a Prince!
I don’t think that marrying into the RF is something that you just fall into. It takes work, as Catherine proved.

It’s a bit of a stretch to compare my liking for a bit of gossip to voting Leave Alegrias
It is possible to be intelligent and interested in tittle tattle, celebrity culture and other ‘low brow’ puffery

Alegrias1 Fri 23-Jul-21 10:03:34

No, I'm not suggesting that you are unintelligent Fanny, not at all. But it does interest me that people - all people, you and me included - are swayed by what the media think they should believe.

^Diana would probably have been a role model?^

She'd just turned 16 when Diana died. I expect she was vaguely aware that a princess from the UK had died in a car crash and carried on watching her Angelina Jolie movies.

Not according to her best friend at the time who said she was "obsessed" with Diana, had pictures of her all round her room.

The death of Diana was international news, Alegrias and especially in America.
Perhaps you were too young to notice.

Alegrias1 Fri 23-Jul-21 10:15:11

I was 36. hmm Same age as Diana, more or less.

Sparklefizz Fri 23-Jul-21 10:43:07

I've just read that Thomas Markle is planning to sue Harry & Meghan in order to see his grandchildren before he dies as his health is getting worse.

Some wag suggested that the best thing would be for him to be interviewed by Oprah for his side of the story in order to fund a court case. That's something I would watch. smile

Anniebach Fri 23-Jul-21 10:54:01

Surely a woman so interested in politics would have seen
the Obama visit to the U.K. him visiting the royal family, photographs taken with them, including Harry. 2011.

maddyone Fri 23-Jul-21 11:04:29

Meghan herself said that she asked ‘Is he nice?’ about Harry, when somebody arranged the first date for her. She said it in the engagement interview.
Just saying.

Sparklefizz Fri 23-Jul-21 11:08:11

Meghan was photographed as a teenager sitting outside Buckingham Palace on a visit to London. She was probably about 16.

Alegrias1 Fri 23-Jul-21 11:10:34

Sparklefizz

Meghan was photographed as a teenager sitting outside Buckingham Palace on a visit to London. She was probably about 16.

And yet she still asked her friend whether the man with whom she'd been set up on a blind date was "nice", because she didn't know much about him?

Oh, the nerve of the woman....

maddyone Fri 23-Jul-21 11:16:14

I would have thought every tourist in the world who visits London would be photographed outside Buckingham Palace. We have some lovely photos of our grandchildren looking through the railings at the palace. I think Meghan would have known about the British RF because they are apparently the most famous royal family in the world, and of course Diana was world famous. What and how much Meghan knew is obviously debatable.

Sparklefizz Fri 23-Jul-21 11:18:23

Her old school friend said that M had a video of Princess Diana's wedding and they played it time and time again, and M would dress up as a bride and "play Diana".

I googled all my dates .... she would have done that, no question.

That's funny maddyone! If Meghan said it in the interview, how do we know, given her subsequent false truths, that she wasn't lying about asking the friend that question? Maybe she just came up with it in the interview in order to look demure and appealing? We don't know.

Sparklefizz Fri 23-Jul-21 11:19:07

Good point ellianne

Anniebach Fri 23-Jul-21 11:20:46

Seems strange to only ask ‘is he nice’ about a man you are meeting on a blind date

maddyone Fri 23-Jul-21 11:21:09

I agree Ellianne. We don’t know that she speaking the truth. We don’t know if she asked her friend if he was nice. What we do know is that she reported that she had asked her friend if he was nice.

Lucca Fri 23-Jul-21 14:18:42

Why ? She knew who he was and what he was so the obvious thing is not what does he look like/where does he work etc, but simply “is he nice ?”

Nannan2 Fri 23-Jul-21 14:23:34

What did Adam faith have to do with Royalty? Good actor though.(& didnt he sing too?

Nannan2 Fri 23-Jul-21 14:31:07

Everybody in the world knows who our Royal family are- and who (of the youngsters ) would turn down offer of a date with one of the younger princes? I guess she could have asked 'is he nice' though as the public persona of people does not always match how they really are?but with the Royal princes, what you see, is more or less, what you get.(or at least it used to be) ?

Nannan2 Fri 23-Jul-21 14:34:27

I thought Megan was ok enough a person when she was on tv, films etc, but getting together with Harry does seem to have gone to her head- personally i think Harry could have done better though. ( Nothing to with her skin, just the type of person she is!)

Nannan2 Fri 23-Jul-21 14:38:31

Sparklefizz- that just sounds creepy, especially as she went on to snare the poor woman's son.??

Nannan2 Fri 23-Jul-21 14:39:10

*nothing to do with.typo.
