Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

Depends what you read Anniebach but from your opinions on Gransnet I suspect it’s not the same things as I read. I’m rapidly losing any respect I had the more I read.

maddyone Mon 09-Aug-21 13:46:52

That’s very interesting Blossoming. I’ll have a look for that book and download it to my kindle.

FannyCornforth Mon 09-Aug-21 15:55:19

I’ve got it an audible maddy.
It is very good

Anniebach Mon 09-Aug-21 16:22:01

Blossoming I can’t recall saying anything I have read in books about the royals is the truth.

Why do say with such certainty that Charles is greedy and selfish?

Norman Baker is a staunch republican, grany quotes him

maddyone Mon 09-Aug-21 18:55:15

Thanks Fanny.

Prince Andrew to face a civil lawsuit in the USA over his relationship with Virginia Andrew’s, I think that’s her name.

Calendargirl Tue 10-Aug-21 07:02:13

P.S.

Got her name wrong, it’s Dupre or similar.

I’m thinking of an author, I think!

Grany Tue 10-Aug-21 07:34:08

Prince Andrew accuser Virginia Giuffre files civil lawsuit in US

Kevin Maguire

Prince Andrew will be sweating today after legal action was started in the US by a woman claiming she was trafficked and sexually abused.

Forget Harry and Meghan. Discussing what is the huge royal scandal on
@GMB
in a mo.

@RepublicStaff
Lots of questions for the royals tonight. Will Andrew continue to refuse cooperation on Epstein case? What happens if the civil action goes against him? Will the taxpayer be paying his legal fees? How far will the family go in protecting him?

Casdon Tue 10-Aug-21 13:14:22

She can only be after money. Here’s a good article explaining the difference between criminal and civil lawsuits in the US.
www.findlaw.com/criminal/criminal-law-basics/the-differences-between-a-criminal-case-and-a-civil-case.html

Alegrias1 Tue 10-Aug-21 13:23:09

Not justice then?

There's a discussion going on in another thread about poor old Andrew, how its really all her fault.

Jeez

Casdon Tue 10-Aug-21 13:26:09

As I read the article I posted I don’t think so Alegrias1, it’s a recourse for compensation, presumably she went down this route because that was her only option.

Alegrias1 Tue 10-Aug-21 13:28:24

OK, sorry I misunderstood Casdon, but surely how you can see how the comment "She can only be after money" could be misconstrued in this situation?

Callistemon Tue 10-Aug-21 13:29:09

There is another thread on this.

Parsley3 Tue 10-Aug-21 13:34:15

Anniebach

So what we read about the royal family is true ?

Only if it is dishing the dirt on Diana, Meghan or Harry. Then it can taken as gospel.

Blossoming Tue 10-Aug-21 13:42:15

Anniebach

Blossoming I can’t recall saying anything I have read in books about the royals is the truth

And I can’t recall ever saying that you said that, so that’s that cleared up.

What I said was that your opinions as expressed on GN make me think you don’t read the same things that I do.

I do wish you wouldn’t keep twisting my words, it really puts me off posting on any threads where you are involved so I’ll say goodbye now.

Anniebach Tue 10-Aug-21 13:46:13

Blossoming if you read anything about Welsh history we do read the same things .

Calendargirl Wed 11-Aug-21 06:38:40

Callistemon

There is another thread on this.

I posted comments about Prince Andrew before the new thread was started.

But as often happens nowadays on GN, it didn’t go on top of the ‘Active’ thread, it just disappeared into the bowels of GN!

Not that it matters, but don’t want anyone to think I waffled on the wrong thread.

confused

Callistemon Wed 11-Aug-21 09:26:04

It's ok, waffle away.

I thought perhaps no-one had realised smile

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 09:58:20

Good morning all smile
Yes, we can talk about anything here! (‘My thread, my rules’ as in, they’re are no rules, apart from the one about not falling out).

(Going off piste - I think it’s brilliant that we have little or no nastiness on this thread, and indeed, it’s predecessor. It seems quite an achievement at the moment. Well done us!)

I’m totally not up to speed at all about the Andrew stuff, tbh, it’s not the sort of thing I want to contemplate really. He’s an odious old bore. You can practically see the entitlement and superiority oozing out of him.

Sparklefizz Wed 11-Aug-21 10:42:50

I am reading an interesting book I got from the library (wouldn't pay for it grin ) entitled "Battle of Brothers" by Robert Lacey.

As the author is often quoted in royal matters, I wanted to see what he had to say. There are pages and pages of references at the back so he has clearly done his homework, plus he has written many other books about royalty including one about the Queen Mother, another about the Queen, etc etc.

I am only 100 pages into the book (500+ pages long) and have learnt several things I didn't know, including how much time William spent with the Queen every week when he was at Eton. Harry is always deemed to be the "favourite grandson" in the press which I think is very hurtful to the others, William amongst them.... but quite possibly she knows William much better.

I needed a bit of light reading at the moment for personal reasons, and this book has done the trick.

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 10:51:56

Thanks for the recommendation Sparklefizz
I’ve been thinking of getting that on Audible. Like you, I need gentle distraction at the moment. Hope you’re okay

Sparklefizz Wed 11-Aug-21 10:57:27

Thanks Fanny
Hope you're ok too. flowers

Anniebach Wed 11-Aug-21 10:57:31

I doubt all the claims of - the Queen’s favourites

Harry is favourite grandson and Peter Phillips

Louise favourite granddaughter and Zara Phillips

Andrew is favourite son and Edward

Sophie is favourite daughter in law, who else is there !

Charlotte is favourite g grandchild

maddyone Wed 11-Aug-21 11:08:03

I imagine the Queen doesn’t have any favourites amongst her grandchildren. Hopefully not her children either, though it has long been said Andrew is the favourite child.

Anniebach Wed 11-Aug-21 11:15:33

Perhaps the claim that Andrew is her favourite comes from the
whispers of - who his father really is ! ! ! !
