Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

Sparklefizz Wed 11-Aug-21 11:23:23

OMG Annie - what are you saying?

Anniebach Wed 11-Aug-21 11:50:06

Sparklefizz. ?

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 11:57:17

Anniebach

Perhaps the claim that Andrew is her favourite comes from the
whispers of - who his father really is ! ! ! !

Who Annie?
Is it that horse trainer chap?

Sparklefizz Wed 11-Aug-21 12:11:25

Fanny I hope you do get the book because I am dying to discuss it with someone! smile

I have just read that Stuart Higgins, a royal correspondent in the 1980s and later editor of The Sun says that Camilla regularly provided him with up-to-date briefings on the marriage of Charles and Diana for 10 years from '82-'92 on a weekly basis.

Anniebach Wed 11-Aug-21 14:02:04

Stuart Higgins ? It must be true , not

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 14:10:08

To be honest, I don’t have much faith in anything that was going on at The Sun in the 80s.
It was under the editorship of the disgusting Kelvin MacKenzie, and they shamelessly just made up any old stuff.
I haven’t heard of Stuart Higgins before though.
I’d find it more believable if it were The Daily Mail.
I must say that I am biased though, as I do rather like Camilla (and no, I haven’t met her!)

Anniebach Wed 11-Aug-21 14:15:45

Do Google Stuart Higgins

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 14:19:18

Off to do so now!

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 14:22:57

Oh deary me envy
I’d forgotten that David Yelland edited The Sun. He must have had a lot of clearing up to do after that pair of charmers.

Sparklefizz Wed 11-Aug-21 15:05:53

Annie You posted this earlier :
^Perhaps the claim that Andrew is her favourite comes from the whispers of - who his father really is ! ! ! !

Please clarify - who were you talking about.

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 15:21:56

SparklefizzI think that Annie might be referring to HM’s horse trainer, the Earl of Carnarvon.
There’s a great episode of The Crown about their friendship.
(Your man who wrote The Battle of the Brothers was one of the advisers for The Crown).

Alegrias1 Wed 11-Aug-21 15:25:38

We're often told that the Queen is above reproach in all things. Can't be criticised. Does her duty, God bless her.

But we are allowed to think she had an affair outside of marriage and passed off the child of that affair as her husband's for 60 years?

Really? confused

Thanks Fanny.
I haven't reached any part of Lacey's book where that's mentioned, and frankly I find it very hard to believe.

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 15:35:52

So do I, but they were very close.
It’s a very touching episode.
Fact and fiction are definitely blurred. There has been so much gossip etc under the bridge about everything, I doubt if we shall ever know the truth about very much.

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 15:36:55

Alegrias but if any family could get with it, it would be them!

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 15:39:25

Porchey! That’s his name. Lord Porchester.
I’ve just googled images, and there is a resemblance!

Anniebach Wed 11-Aug-21 15:52:38

Sparklefizz sorry i posted about it now, I was a joke.

Lord Porchester was the Queens racing manager, they had been friends from childhood,

I don’t watch the ghastly The Crown so didn’t know there had been any reference to him for years. But if it has been in
The Crown what better assurance that it was a lie

Alegrias1 Wed 11-Aug-21 16:10:40

Right then, so it's OK to joke now that the Queen was an unfaithful wife and has lied to the UK population for more than half a century.

OK, got it.

(Don't believe it for a minute, mind you)

Anniebach Wed 11-Aug-21 16:38:16

Alegrias1. Why the constant sarcasm to so many of my posts ?
is there a need to put me down, if so , what is that need ?

Alegrias1 Wed 11-Aug-21 16:59:19

Its not always sarcastic, Annie, sometimes its very straightforward.

If any of us had made any comment criticising the Queen in any way, I expect that you or another ardent Royalist would have been on us straight away with a sarcastic or barbed comment. But a snide remark about her sexual past is to be considered a "joke".

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 17:04:49

Oh Annie
I know that you don’t like the Crown for very valid reasons, but some of it (in particular the first and second series) are marvellous.
I don’t think that (the first two series) are anything but sympathetic to HM, and indeed the rest of ‘em.
I encourage you to have a little peep (from behind the sofa perhaps, with missiles to chuck at the screen).
The one about Graham Sutherland painting Churchill’s portrait was my favourite (and it only featured the RF in passing!)
I’m not really enjoying the later series’.
Apologies if I’m repeating myself btw!

Anniebach Wed 11-Aug-21 17:19:12

No way Fanny it caused much upset to many I know, it
went too far in that episode, you enjoy it .

Wonder if I hold a record for my viewing of Netflix, one hour

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 17:27:06

I understand flowers

FannyCornforth Wed 11-Aug-21 17:45:40

Here’s a marvellous snippette from ‘…And What Do You Do?’ (I’m listening to it at the moment, in the background)

In 2016 Andrew was driving in one of their estates (I’m being vague - but it’s all documented) and came across some security gates which were on the blink and wouldn’t open. So instead of making a tiny detour, he rammed the gates with his Range Rover.
Criminal damage, all paid for by the public.
The estate ranger was quoted in the press saying that it was not unusual behaviour, which isn’t exactly difficult to believe.

Anniebach Wed 11-Aug-21 18:34:39

He has always seemed so arrogant
