Good Morning everyone from an overcast Monday in the South ?? - or maybe it’s just our house? ?
Not a football fan normally (well, shut up then GrandmaFrench, I hear you say!) but I really want to say that the final surge of excitement and expectation and joy at an England final did eventually sweep us both up.
Recently got to know the players’ names, hear them speak, and very impressed that there seemed to be so much more wanting to win for their country - and their lovely Manager - than massive egos and stupidity. It looked as if their magical footwork and speed and real team effort was going to give them the win. Then Italy showed their skills and the play went up and down - hard to guess who would triumph. Nerve-wracking.
Suppose it’s too radical to query that after a hard match, a level score, extra time, injury time, that one shot against a goal-keeper was the best way of settling such an important game. What would be the problem in sharing the trophy, based on the match result? Why the need to come up with a winner, but in such a random way? It could just as easily have been any silly test…..not based on playing skills at all. I understand that this is how it’s done, but I can’t see how it does justice to the efforts of both teams at the end of a contest. They’re a team, surely, so it’s a team thing, not an illustration of how one person has to take the blame for one missed shot. Crazy, to me.
Anyway, 5 minutes before the end of extra time, enough fireworks went off at a display just along the coast (a normal holiday event here) to make us think great things had been foretold! Surprised you didn’t hear the noise in the UK. The fireworks ended, the match ended but the football gods were clearly not happy, because thunderclaps and torrential rain then followed. I raced around the garden in the thunder (with my currently well behaved ankle) and gathered all cushions, rugs, etc., and got them put away before the rain. Keep this up and I’ll maybe try out for the next England team. Mr Southgate looks like someone who’d be kind to Grannies! Watch this space……
Doing some painting today, ironing, making Clinic appointments and bathing dogs. (They are possibly hoping we’ve forgotten them! ). Then they and 2 cats have to have their tick and flea treatment. Doesn’t take long but has to be organised like a military operation…..with those cats, we get just one chance (a sort of feline penalty shoot out?)
Have a really good Monday, folks. Sorry you’ve felt unwell, dragon - maybe take it easy until you’re on top form again.
Keep safe all, stay positive and make each day count.
Hugs from me and France ??♀️???♀️???♀️?
