Good Morning Everyone,
Its bright and sunny here in Brackley this morning, my usual shop , before returning to watch the Tour on TV .
Tempted with getting a Fish & Chip take away around lunchtime for a change .
Otherwise housework .
Take care,
Mick

Good morning Mick and all his followers.
Susan as it’s Friday I would be on the phone now and every 30 minutes until I get to speak to his consultant or senior registrar. That is not acceptable care and there is no need to deny him visitors. That’s what PPE is for.
Hot and sunny in Suffolk! I have finished harvesting a very satisfactory crop of garlic and shallots then picked the first runner beans. Now off to get my money back on two rolls of turf which are mostly dead, then a Tesco shop.
I hope the day is kind to everyone.

loopylindy Fri 16-Jul-21 12:35:26

aaahh! I am so lucky, looking out over blue sea and sky, watching cruise ships going nowhere. Been on two cruises but wouldn't go on one now for a gold pension. Too risky.
DH out in the garden building a water feature (that has growed and growed like Topsy) that is assuming Niagara like features.... Me? I'm hiding from the heat.
Now schools have broken up and it's due to be beautiful over the weekend the town will be invaded - hopefully by people spending their saved up dosh!

Good morning all from hot and sunny Preston. Yesterday we went to a local nature reserve, it was good for the soul to sit and watch dragonflies, damsel flies and butterflies enjoying the warm sunshine. It’s a mixture of water (old gravel pit) and wildflowers. Today is going to be another scorcher, we are going out later to a garden centre that also sells bird food. The goldfinches are very demanding and won’t eat any old rubbish!

I’m sorry if I missed any birthdays or anniversaries, this is the first time I’ve been able to sit and read through properly for days.

Marydoll I’m pleased to see you here. I won’t say ‘be careful’ as I’m sure you’re capable of making up your own mind!

GrandMattie Happy Christmas, hope you have a lovely time.
Dwm enjoy the get together.
NanKate and BlueSapphire have wonderful holidays and come back refreshed.
Esspee and baubles enjoy your weekends.
Alizarin your passion for wood must have found a fellow traveller, well done!
dogsmakemesmile ouch, I hope you’re soon on the mend.
dragonfly enjoy your evening.

Have the best day you can all, positive thoughts to those struggling with problems. ???

Borrheid55 Fri 16-Jul-21 11:05:58

Morning all from a brighter than yday Ashford . Marydoll so glad you posted but sorry to hear you’re ‘no weel’. You could use this down time to plan your next adventure/escapade/novella. I used to say to trainee managers that they should spend time ‘staring into space’ and plan their next steps. Sometimes they were so busy doing the job they forgot about planning it. A big sheet of paper, coloured pens and a giant mindmap could appear of all your future activities,
I have a quiet day - no change there- until this evening. We have a problem with rats ( 7 on one occasion!) so Andy the rat an is coming back to look at the bait traps he put out on Monday evening. I really didn’t want to have poison around as we had visiting hedgehogs (3 ) in the spring but they were coming out during the day whilst I was sitting in the garden! Nocturnal? Aye right! Some of the bait tubes are definitely being used so hopefully problem is solved. Trying to balance attracting the birds and not the rodents isn’t easy.
DH finally booked an appointment at the local dump , so that will help tidy the garden a bit.
Hope those that are poorly feel better ( especially Mary!) and all have a good day in the improving weather.

Good morning,

It's already very warm in South Yorkshire and the mercury is still rising. Been out and watered all the pots whilst they are still in relative shade. Everything s looking very lush and colourful at the moment.

Some washing to put out which will soon dry in this warmth, then a see what comes along sort of day.

Enjoy your Christmas celebrations, Grandmattie. I'm sure you'll have a lovely day. A friend of mine did similar in May for some of her family not seen for months. They did the whole works, like you, and even decorated a small fir tree ? in a pot from the garden with fairy lights.

Hope the floods are far from you, amselerin. They are horrendous, and my heart goes out to all affected by them.

Nice to see you posting Marydoll and I hope you start to feel stronger as the day goes on.

To all celebrating today, enjoy your day.

Take care.

grandMattie Fri 16-Jul-21 10:19:27

Auntieflo, the traffic is very erratic. Just now there was a queue going to the links, waiting for about 25 minutes. Now there is absolutely no traffic! Hoping DS2 will be patient. Since we eat in the evening, at least he has a chance! ?

Auntieflo Fri 16-Jul-21 10:01:07

Good morning Mick, Annie and all.
It's a beautiful day and shortly I have a Face to Face hospital appointment with the oncology team, rather than a phone call.
Marydoll, so lovely to see you back, I was worrying about you and your absence. Do take care and rest. I know you don't do rest, but needs must you know.
Grandmattie, sympathy for you with all the traffic past your home. Will the family be able to make it through for Christmas?
What kind men Alizarin, to bring you lots of carving material. You must show us the results.
Yesterday I had a lovely Meet Up with a couple of GN's, and lots of catch up chat. When I left, I was sauntering out towards the door, when one of them mentioned that I had to pay ?
Good job that I can't run these days, I would be so easy to catch.
Have a good day one and all.

Grandmafrench Fri 16-Jul-21 09:28:44

Oh dogs. I’m sad for you. Being upbeat is a good plan, but PLEASE take care and get enough rest while you’re doing that.

Dogsmakemesmile Fri 16-Jul-21 09:21:39

Good morning everyone from a glorious Scottish Borders. Didn't post yesterday as have broken another bone in fall and back to my original Long John Silver crutches. Superb care as usual from NHS. Very Groundhog Day but familiar with changes in routine and putting chairs around house again. I am determined to be upbeat. Ddog slumbering in shade. Have put wash on and intend making bread. Also resting, elevating and putting frozen peas on knee. So lovely to hear of people's plans and lives . Wishing everyone a good a day as possible.

Grandmafrench Fri 16-Jul-21 09:13:52

Good Morning everyone, how lovely to hear about so much outing and abouting! Enjoy it all - and for all off on holiday, how wonderful to have good weather forecasts. The memories you will all make can be dry ones! ? Hurrah!

Merry Christmas, ?‍?Mattie - have a wonderful day. ?

Every time I see a Flamingo photo on here, I feel each bird could have (like trees) )a little tag on its leg saying ‘sponsored by (name) through Gransnet’. ? Then we could not only look out for Flamingoes as we go though life, we could also spot names we know!

I echo completely what dragonfly has said, Susan. It’s a very odd thing to say if indeed your poor FiL is just dealing with old age. Not so long ago, such patients would have been considered ‘bed blockers’ - and hospitals would be trying desperately to find them spaces in Homes, if they were unable to live unaided or had no home support. I’m astonished this isn’t even more pressing in these awful times. Since your FiL has family and, of course, he will be suffering emotionally from being in a hospital - unless very ill - it sounds like a case of no one joining the dots. The hospital won’t discharge him until he no longer needs to be there for medical care, but it’s not likely that whilst there he will have had a full assessment of his needs - which is normally arranged through Adult Social Care. Whatever level of support he requires can then be arranged through whatever agencies are considered necessary and the Hospital gets its bed back! His closest family need to speak directly to the Doctor in charge of his care and direct questions need to be asked regarding ongoing medical treatment - or when they plan to discharge him. Someone probably needs to kickstart this, otherwise he’ll suffer unnecessarily through inaction.

If it turns out that his care can be met by family, at home, possibly with some adaptations at home, or other support, surely the sooner a plan is put in place, the better. I always found Adult Social Care helpful, if weighed down with work. My late Mum never had an allocated Social Worker. Case files were actually farmed out to another County, and it was hard to arrange regular Assessments and get any ducks in a row…but it does pay to keep on! Keep notes, take names and follow up arrangements. He deserves that and so does his Wife. Good luck! x

I’m in a lazy mood today. This sadly means that I must face the ironing. So, maybe an interesting Desert Island Discs will keep me company whilst I power through the task. Not too much distraction needed, or I’ll steam a finger and be reaching for the Lavender oil even quicker than usual.

Well wishes for those who are poorly. Have the best day, everyone. The news is not terribly encouraging for the Freedom Day you’re all waiting for. Hope that’s all exaggeration, but ………..keep extra safe - just in case.

Hugs and love from France ?? ?

Stilllearning Fri 16-Jul-21 09:08:18

Another good morning from S Lanarkshire.

My garden room is almost finished, it’s lovely and my feeling of stress is receding. I definitely will not tackle a major project like this again, I’m really listening to exasperated family this time, ‘You will not ask for help!’

Happy pandemic Christmas Grandmattie I hope you have a great day with your family.

Clearing and tidying today, for some reason I don’t mind such tasks when the weather is nice.

Good to see Marydoll back and wishing everyone a good day?

hollysteers Fri 16-Jul-21 09:07:21

Good morning Mick and all from a dull northwest Lancashire coast but I think it is going to brighten up.
Off to art group soon, last meeting until September so we are having lunch in town and I have made a bit of an effort dress wise.
The family left yesterday so quieter now. The dishwasher is standing in the middle of the kitchen floor, new one arriving on Wednesday and had to pay extra for this sort of stuff, so son has prepared the ground.
My iPhone and iPad adapters newly arrived, don’t charge. I wish we had the same adapter for everything, also the Dyson hand held Hoover charger isn’t working (for when I get round to cleaning the inside of the car)
Hating the ‘retro’ tiled fireplace in the sitting room, my son has suggested painting it, but I’m wary. Don’t want the bother of a new one. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it is my motto, but it doesn’t go with the room.
Welcome back Marydoll and thoughts to anyone with troubles.
Will read through all your doings later.

Nannagarra Fri 16-Jul-21 09:00:51

Good morning from the Sefton coast where it is cloudy. Our bags are packed in readiness for a visit to Ness Gardens suggested by DH. Let’s hope the sun comes out.
In case you missed my very late post yesterday (and why wouldn’t you) I’m sending happy birthday wishes, ginny. Merry Christmas grandMattie. Enjoy the get togethers Kim19 and dwm and to those going on holiday have a brilliant time. What a soldier your DGS1 is, dwm. Marydoll it’s so good to know you’re improving and wisely taking a more passive role atm. A warm welcome back from all us.
Photographs from Esspee and corner have added to the joy of this thread today. On occasions when I have to skim through, pix always catch my eye.
Have the best day you can everyone. Seek that smile and focus on any flamingo that might pass by.
?????

Gelisajams Fri 16-Jul-21 08:58:36

Good morning from a warm cloudy Morecambe Bay. Good to see you back Marydoll so sorry you are having such a rough time.
Merry Christmas GM
Just off to pick up the keys to the vicarage garden. That’s our work for today.
We have just got the new gym timetable. There’s no aqua sessions! I’m not a happy bunny. Joe Wickes is no substitute for the pool! Pre lockdown there was at least one session every day. I think the instructors must have got new jobs elsewhere.
Take care everyone and stay safe ????

Pittcity Fri 16-Jul-21 08:37:00

Good morning from a brightening Colchester.
Another quiet day and weekend.
The weather is going to get a bit too hot for me. I have already been watering and deadheading this morning, so that I can sit in the shade and read or snooze when it gets too warm.

Love to all x

baubles Fri 16-Jul-21 08:36:38

Good morning Mick, morning all from South Lanarkshire where it’s a little overcast at the moment but I think the sun will break through very soon.

Enjoy your Christmas celebrations GrandMattie. A random act of kindness Alizarin, how marvellous.
Good to see you Marydoll, I hope you feel better soon.
Brook your bbq sounds wonderful, Bute is indeed beautiful, you’re so lucky to have had the weather to enjoy it.

This afternoon we have friends coming over for tea and chat and this morning I’ll pack for our weekend away.

Wishing everyone a peaceful day.

Anniebach Fri 16-Jul-21 08:35:43

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Grandmabatty Fri 16-Jul-21 08:33:55

Good morning all. Polmont is experiencing a heatwave at the moment. Yesterday was very warm at 25° and today has to be much the same. We have blue skies again too.
Nice to see you back Marydoll (waving furiously). Happy July Christmas Grandmattie.
Yesterday was productive. I got washings done and watered and weeded the garden. I went to pick up my prescription which should have been straightforward but I ended up being half an hour in the pharmacy as they couldn't find half of it. Eight times assistants asked if I was sure someone hadn't picked it up for me. I admit I was getting tetchy as I don't mind if a mistake had been made, but it wisnae me! In the end the pharmacist redid the whole thing but I was uncomfortable hanging about. I spent the afternoon in the garden under a parasol and doing crossword puzzles. It's the only time I actually do puzzles and makes me feel summery.
Today I'm going to nip to Aldi as I'm out of bread and milk. I will clean the windows this morning and do a little ironing while it's relatively cool. Have a good day all.

Lins1066 Fri 16-Jul-21 08:30:17

Good morning from a very warm and sunny S Welsh coast. Going to take it easy today after a very busy day of medical appointments yesterday. Our DD called earlier before work to take Sam for a run over the field before it gets too hot.
I will ring the butcher shortly to order meat for a family BBQ on Sunday. Looking forward to seeing our five year old who had a very good first school report.
Susan we have been in a similar position with my late fil, but that was two years ago and in pre covid days. Some friends are in a similar position now though, I will send you a pm later.
Enjoy your Christmas Day gM. Glad to see you back Marydoll, take it easy please.
To all those going on holiday or with plans, have a wonderful time.
Enjoy the sunshine.

ginny Fri 16-Jul-21 08:15:27

A sunny Good Morning to you all. We are on the move today, part way home. We will have an overnight stay near Taunton.
Merry Christmas Mattie
Wishing those who are holidaying a happy time and healing wishes for those under par.
Hope you all find a smile along the way.

Gingster Fri 16-Jul-21 08:11:50

Good morning all and it’s strange weather here in Essex. The forecast sun only appeared shortly yesterday . Looked as if it was going to rain all day but never did. Today looks the same. - overcast and dull. ?. Heatwave due for the weekend!

Today GD1 is coming for lunch. She’s home from Uni and I will at last find out what she’s been up to. We only have very short text messages from her while she’s away. It will be like an interregation meeting with nanna . ?.
I’ve just been to M and S and actually bought sandwiches etc . How lazy am I ! I have a friend who does just that and they’re always delicious and gives more time for chat (and interregation) ?.

Glad Marydoll has posted. Get better and stronger soon. We miss your novellas. ?. ?
Dmw your poor Gs. So painful ?
Granmattie have a jolly July Christmas ?
Alizirin what a find! Let us know what you make with your booty.
Happy holidays to all.?

Take care ?

dragonfly46 Fri 16-Jul-21 08:04:50

I am not sure what you can do about your FiL Susan. I am sure you have rung the ward and asked to speak to a doctor.
When my dad decided he wanted to die and not get better they could not get him out fast enough. I would have thought they would be happy to send him home to free up the bed. Maybe they are waiting for Social Services to put a care plan in place. In any case they should let you know what is going on.

Sar53 Fri 16-Jul-21 08:04:15

Good morning from a still cloudy Essex by the sea, we are promised a sunny weekend.
DH will be home early evening, he messaged earlier and said we are sailing past, give us a wave. I got the binoculars out but couldn't see them !!!
I'm off to Lidl shortly to get in supplies for the weekend and later will probably have a walk down to the beach. There are some professional looking tents going up, I will go and see what is going on.
I haven't read the rest of the early morning news so will catch up now.
I hope Mary is feeling better and those with worries or sadness find a smile or a flamingo today.
Have a lovely Friday everyone xxx

dragonfly46 Fri 16-Jul-21 07:54:02

Good morning from sunny Leicestershire.

It is our NWR Spanish evening tonight in someone’s garden. We are all taking tapas. I am taking chickpeas with chorizo and date and coconut bars. I have just been told the Sainsbury’s have substituted paper cups for a certain design of paper plate!

Hope you feel better soon Marydoll.

brook2704 Fri 16-Jul-21 07:51:37

Good morning everyone from the last day of our holidays on the beautiful Island of Bute. Yesterday was a scorcher and we all had a perfect day which ended with a family beach bbq, we just had enough heat left to toast some marshmallows at the end. The holiday has been just about making happy memories for us all ? Today is going to be a restful day before the drive home tomorrow
I hope you have a happy Christmas Day GM and enjoy the celebrations
So pleased you’re able to post Marydoll please rest and I hope MrM is looking after you well
