Or at least go all gooey over one?
My mum used to love listening to the actor Alan Badel on the radio - his smooth tones absolutely “sent” her grin
I was dozing in bed last night to last weekend’s “Golden Age of Broadway” Prom on BBC Sounds - songs from all my favourite musicals but woke up to hear Clarke Peters (the actor) singing This Nearly Was Mine from South Pacific. What a beautiful rich, smooth deep voice he has, like a mug of Hôtel Chocolat cocoa, and I was well away!
If you are interested it’s about 38 minutes or so in, on last Saturdays Prom on BBC Sounds

Errol Brown from Hot Chocolate singing “It Started With a Kiss” . I was lucky enough to see him, and my knees went weak!
He never seemed to age. (Sadly he died aged 71).

Phil Collins singing "One More Night" .... the desire and longing ... oh, yes, yes, Phil, how could I say no?

Richard Burton narrating ‘Under Milkwood’, first heard when I was 16 and always loved listening to him

French baritone opera singer, Ernest Blanc. He only ever performed in France, but I heard a recording of him singing in Tales of Hoffman by Offenbach, and shivers went up and down my spine. Googling him, it seems I am not the only one he had that effecct on.

In photos he looks like any other Franchman with frizzy dark hair and an ordinary face.

Voices are just so important and I "fall in love" with new ones all the time. My latest is Lutalo Muhammad, the martial arts expert who joined in on some of the BBC Olympics programmes; not only is he extremely good looking (sigh) but he has the most beautiful speaking voice I've heard in a long time.

I fell in love with my husband’s voice. He could get me tickets for the hottest musical of the day HAIR, but I had decided it would be best not to date him then he called me. I was mesmerised by his voice, said yes to everything he asked and ended up marrying him. ?

Yes voices are definitely my thing. Used to love Omar Sharifs’s voice, Also like that of Nicolas Cage, amongst others.

John Gielgud reading Shakespeare (or anything), Franco Corelli, fantastic tenor and film star looks, Gerard Souzay, French baritone singing Schumann.
I go to sleep listening to Eddie Mair on LBC, one of the best voices on radio for me.
Thumbs up for James Mason too, yummy.

This thread reminds me of girls/women who dress up to the nines, taking infinite pains, ending up looking stunning, but ruin it when they open their mouths. It’s strange that an attractive speaking voice isn’t considered as important as looks.
Applies to men too.

I agree voices matter a great deal. Richard Burton with Under Milk Wood is definitely a favourite of mine. I also enjoy Martin Jarvis reading or acting. Willard White singing and of course the marvellous very deep russian basses singing any russian church music but I have the wonderful Rachmaninov Vespers which has great basses there.

Anyone remember that DJ from Radio Caroline? He had a late show - going to have to Google for his name now! Gorgeous voice but face fit only for a dartboard...

Another vote for Scott Walker. And in my youth I used to think James Taylor's singing voice was soothing and sexy.

Absolutely agree on Nat and Alan!!!

George Clark and Alan Titchmarsh. They could both read the phone book and I'd be captivated!

Reminds me of my first job , working in Salaries and Wages when I had to speak to staff in what was then Personnel on a regular basis.
The Senior Officer seemed a lovely man and his voice was one to send you week at the knees!
I asked one of the other staff if his face matched his voice and was told I would be disappointed!
When I finally did meet him, sadly I was! I pictured the "tall dark and handsome" scenario but he was short, chunky and balding!

Richard Burton gets my top vote too, especially reading Under Milk Wood.
Also Paul Robeson singing, a very deep rooted memory from childhood.

luluaugust Mon 09-Aug-21 12:13:03
